Grey and Ray is a fun collection of kids apparel created by a love of surf, skate and California street style.

Designed through the inspiration of their kids Benjamin Grey and Oskar Ray, Grey and Ray is all about a kid’s creativity and personality. Here, we go behind the brand to find out more…

When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
We launched Grey and Ray in October 2017. As our boys, Benjamin Grey and Oskar Ray grew, we noticed that we were both having a hard time finding cool, comfortable, high-quality clothing for them. There are so many more options for girls than there are for boys, so we hatched up the idea of a West Coast-inspired kids clothing line that focused on boys. The name Grey and Ray comes from the boys’ middle names, Benjamin Grey and Oskar Ray.

Whats your background?
Like many moms, Heidi Lieberman and Gudrun Kosloff became friends when their kids became friends. While their sons played together in preschool, Heidi (above left), a celebrity fashion stylist, and Gudrun, a celebrity makeup artist, found easy rapport in chatting about their glam careers. The moms also bonded over a shared frustration: their difficulty finding stylish boys’ clothing that didn’t break the bank.

How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?
As of now, it’s just us along with our intern. Benjamin and Oskar are involved in all aspects of the design process. They choose fabric, color and style of each item and even paint splatter some of it. Benjamin and Oskar find tags in their clothing uncomfortable that is why Grey and Ray opted for a tagless label.

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
Because we are so new and small and doing it all ourselves, we end working 24-7 and don’t have much time for anything else between our families and work.

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
Gudrun is Danish her dad is famous classical music composer. Heidi is Southern and her grand dad invented bubbles.

2019 here, where do you plan on taking the brand?
We plan on launching our brand in at least 20 new stores.

To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
Seeing a fun child celeb wear our clothing at the Kid’s Choice Awards.

Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?
Gudrun would feel more comfortable in Paris because she lived there for five years, but we are definitely California girls. Los Angeles is home.

Three beauty products you can’t leave the house without?
Concealer to hide under eye bags, blush so we look fresh, and dry shampoo when we don’t have time for a hair wash.

Style means….?
An extension of your personality.

Best thing about London to you?
The fashion and the accents!

If you had to, what piece of clothing from your wardrobe would you wear everyday?
Zadig and Voltaire Cashmere Sweater and Frame and L’Agence jeans.

Best place for a coffee?
Demitasse in Little Tokyo

Most memorable piece of advice given to you?
Do onto others as you would have others do unto you.

Guilty pleasure?
