It’s no secret that Palm Springs and the surrounding area is one of the most insta-worthy destinations in California – isn’t that’s why Coachella is held there? – but if you’re on a fleeting visit, you need to know where to stop for the most grammable moments in a hurry. Here are some of our favourites!
Sands Hotel and Spa, Indian Wells
Designed in collaboration with legendary interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Sands Hotel and Spa is arguably the most beautiful hotel in California. The Pink Cabana restaurant is the heart of the hotel and took inspiration from the Palm Springs tennis and racquet clubs of the 1950s and 1960s – it’s a fantastic spot to grab a drink and a bite to eat.
Joshua Tree National Park
Encompassing two desert ecosystems – the Colorado and Mojave Deserts – Joshua Tree National Park is one of the most unique places in the world. Head there during the early evening to see the park at golden hour and stay until night time when the sky is covered with a blanket of stars – it’s a designated International Dark Sky Park.
Moorten Botanical Garden, Palm Springs
Founded in 1938, Moorten Botanical Garden began as a private arboretum for the Moorten family but is now a year-round garden featuring more than 3,000 types of plant life native to the Greater Palm Springs region. Amongst the shrubbery there are glistening crystals, colorful rocks, fossils and mining relics, all set against the backdrop of the Moorten family’s incredible Mediterranean-style home.
Located just outside of Greater Palm Springs, Salvation Mountain is an intricate work of art by local resident Leonard Knight. The man-made mountain is Leonard’s tribute to God and uses random materials, such as painted cement, hay bales, telephone poles and car windows, to create an intricate hill standing at 50 feet tall. The words ‘God is love’ are adorned at the peak and locals regularly help refresh the paint so the mountain is continuously bold and striking.
Azucar Restaurant and Bar, Palm Springs
Situated inside La Serena Villas in Palm Springs city, Azucar Restaurant and Bar is as sweet as its name. The kitsch and colourful décor is visible both inside and out from patterned wallpaper and artistic prints on the walls, to comfy blankets and bright tablemats on the tables beside the swimming pool.
