From Ice Skating to Christmas Markets, there is so much festive fun to be had in London over this Christmas period. The English capital has something to offer to everyone, so don’t hold back on planning a visit this year.
Ice Skate at The Natural History Museum
If you love to ice skate, then here is the place to visit. [Set against the backdrop of the Waterhouse building], the Ice Rink at the Natural History Museum is one of the most magical places to be this winter. It’s perfect for everyone, from toddlers to adults, and the cafe bar means that if your kids love to skate but you don’t, you can let them have their fun whilst you enjoy a hot drink and a sweet treat. Each skating session lasts 50 minutes, skate hire is included in your ticket price and the museum itself is also well worth a visit. You can easily while away the afternoon, or even entire day, looking at dinosaurs and other interesting creatures. This might not be as festive as what the ice rink outside the museum has to offer, but if you’re looking to keep little ones entertained during the Christmas school break, then a visit inside is definitely a good idea.
Visit Winter Wonderland
Winter Wonderland is located in the south-east corner of Hyde Park. This free to enter family event is sure to put a smile on everyone’s faces. It features a huge amount of festive entertainment, from more ice skating, to circus shows and live music. Of course, there’s also plenty of delicious food and drink available, from German sausages to amazing hot chocolates. The event is open from 10am-10pm every day over the festive period, except for Christmas day itself. The main entrance is near Marble Arch, but there’s also secondary entrances on Serpentine Road.
Winter Wonderland started back in 2007, and since then has proven to be exceptionally popular, with over 14 million people visiting over its first ten years. Winter Wonderland is by far one of the very most Christmassy and exciting festive events that London has to offer, so don’t miss out this year!
Tour the Harry Potter Studios
If you are a lover of Harry Potter, magics or film production, then the studios in Watford are an absolute must, especially at this time of year. Hogwarts in the Snow sees the film’s sets getting a very festive makeover, from the model Hogwarts castle being dusted in a magical layer of frosty white, to the Weasley’s kitchen being decked out with Christmas crackers and a festive feast. The studio tour is located just 20 miles north-west of London, and is easy to get to by bus, train or car.
Wander London’s Best Christmas Markets
Over the festive period, London plays host to countless brilliant Christmas markets. Some of the very most popular include the Leicester Square Christmas markets, Kingston Christmas markets and Southbank Winter Festival. And it doesn’t get much more festive than the Christmas market on the South Bank, a line of German-style wooden chalets decorated with fairy lights and full of traders selling treats, gifts and decorations. Christmas markets are a perfect, and very traditional, way to get into the Christmas spirit and enjoy the festive season.
Visit One of London’s Many Great Casinos
This recommendation is perhaps a little unconventional for the festive period but makes for great fun and a good break from all the festivities if you feel like you need one.
