Here at House of Coco, there’s not a day goes by that one of our #TeamCoco isn’t checking out a new hotel, restaurant or the latest event. We’re forever on the move looking for the ultimate things to do and the best places to stay so that when you want to go an adventure, we will be your go to place for inspiration.

With the rise of the staycation, we wanted to spotlight the best places to stay in the Capital. However, after we lay our head on the pillow at the Shangri-La with the most epic views of London, we had to shine the light on this luxury establishment to make sure it moves its way to the top of your travel bucket list.

London’s first elevated luxury hotel occupies levels 34 to 52 of the iconic Renzo Piano designed building, The Shard celebrated 5 years in business last month. Here our 5 reasons why the Shangri-La is the ultimate hotel to stay at in London.

The views from the bedrooms are insane

The five-star property offers 202 rooms and suites, all with unparalleled views. I dare anyone to try and find a better view in London to fall asleep to. Guaranteed you won’t want to be counting sheep when you stay here, instead you’ll want to stay up all night so that you can watch the sunset, have a bubble bath with views unlike anything else and catch up on the latest TV from the one that is positioned perfectly inside the bathroom mirror.

Their foodie options will satisfy every pallet

If you can tear yourself away from your room and resist the urge to order room service, you’ll be spoilt for choice with the three signature dining and drinks venues. Their signature restaurant will satisfy every pallet, derived from the Chinese word for ‘living room’, TĪNG, is the collective name of the restaurant and lounge on Level 35. Whether it is breakfast by sunrise or tea at sunset, soak in a backdrop of unsurpassed, iconic London views while savouring the best of British fare with an enticing Asian twist. They celebrate fresh ingredients sourced from suppliers in Borough Market and you might even get a chance to go with the chefs one morning to pick those out.

Their cocktail offering will get everyone talking

Not just an Instagrammers dream, their cocktails are worth talking about. Exploring the ingenious inventions and incredible innovations that have impacted society and transformed the world we live in today, the highest hotel bar in Western Europe, has a cocktail menu entitled ‘A Miscellany of Inventions’. Inspired by the creativity of the greatest inventors of our past and developed through out of the box techniques and by combining unusual ingredients, each drink is its own unique creation in a wondrously shaped receptacle. An idea served inside an idea.

Head Bartender at GŌNG Bar Christian Maspes and his talented team were inspired by inventions that have brought about dramatic changes in transportation, business, entertainment, medical care and everyday life. From a compass and its clever magnetic technology that has guided explorers for over a thousand years, to the creation of penicillin that advanced the field of medicine on a global scale, the cocktail menu explores the best of the human mind, celebrating entrepreneurship, creativity and above all genius.

The best thing about staying at the hotel is that, once you have made your way through the menu, you won’t have far to stumble to bed.

They boast the highest swimming pool in Western Europe

At 11 x 4 metres, the pool has no Olympic pretensions and is not aimed at swimmers in serious training but a relaxing swim through the silky waters are the best way to start or finish your day at the hotel. On a clear day, you can see as far as Wembley Stadium and admire views of other landmarks — including St Paul’s Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, Tate Modern, the Gherkin and the Houses of Parliament — while swimming in the striking infinity pool.

The infinity pool at the Shard has a dual purpose: by day it is a place to paddle and splash; by night a place to party, an extension of the glittering GŎNG, one of London’s hottest cocktail bar tickets.

The fully equipped gym is just over the hallway and working out seems that little bit easier when you get to enjoy the views. With cold towels readily placed in a fridge, fresh lemon water and earplugs, you have everything you need to make sure you don’t miss leg day.

They do the coolest events

You can watch an intimate play in the luxury of a signature Shangri-La Suite, performed live by London’s hottest private theatre company, Revels In Hand. Enjoy a night of elegance, glamour and comedy in the hotel, complete with Champagne and canapés during the intermission. Theatre in the Clouds is as unique as the name suggests and, just like you will come to expect from Shangri-La, it’s an event unlike any other.

The hotel continues to establish itself as a leader in London’s luxury hotel market and became a Forbes Five Star Hotel in February of 2019 and it’s clear why they boast this accolade. In September 2018, Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, London was also awarded five red stars at the AA Hospitality Awards for its exceptional hospitality and the hotel and it’s team are looking forward to many more years of success and celebration ahead.

So, what are you waiting for, get your stay booked and be sure to thank us later.
