5 BEAUTIFUL BEACHES YOU WON’T BELIEVE ARE IN THE UK!
1. Barafundle Bay, Pembrokeshire, Wales
Barafundle Bay is a crescent-shaped soft-sanded golden beach. There is no direct road access so you would need to ramble along a cliff path for half a mile from the nearest car park to reach this gorgeous small bay backed by dunes and pine trees. Barafundle has been voted many times as one of the best beaches in Britain and is often likened to a Caribbean bolthole.
2. Camber Sands, East Sussex
One of the World’s 50 Best Beaches, Camber Sands, near Rye is a seven-mile long sandy duney paradise. You can get to the gently sloping beach from a number of public car parks. The beach is ‘zoned’ to keep swimmers and paddlers separate from those enjoying kitesurfing and windsurfing.
3. The Isle of Barra, Outer Hebrides, Scotland
The Isle of Barra is just eight miles long and five miles wide. It is 60 miles from mainland Scotland, making it the most Westerly inhabited island of the UK. Pop your car on the ferry and then you can enjoy one of the most beautiful coastlines, with deserted white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. The sands at Traigh Mhor are used as a runway for the daily air service into Barra. Barra is brilliant for watersports – sea kayaking is a must to explore up-close the beautiful islands.
4. Blackpool Sands in South Devon
Blackpool sands is a Blue Flag Award-winning beach and backed by evergreens and scented pines. The waters are unusually clear and are tested regularly by the Environment Agency to confirm their cleanliness. The beach is cleaned on a daily basis from March to the end of October. Kayak, paddleboards and wetsuits are all available to hire on the beach and lifeguards are on duty during the summer months.
5. Durdle Door, Dorset
This wonderful Jurassic coastline has a dramatic rock formation which takes the shape of an archway. You can get to the shingle beach on foot via a path and steps over the hill from Lulworth Cove or down from the Car Park. The Marine Conservation Society has recommended the beach for its excellent water quality.
