2021 is fast approaching but you seriously don’t need to wait for the next year to enter to embark on your self-development journey. Yes, I’m talking about getting ahead on your resolutions by making the first step towards becoming a better person right here, right now. Here are just 6 of the things you can start doing today to become a better you.

  1. Taking control of your health

If there’s anything that this year has taught us, it’s the fact that we shouldn’t be neglecting our health. Therefore, it should be our top priority for next year and for the remaining time we have on earth. If you’re already in good shape, well, good for you! But that doesn’t mean you’re going to start slacking now.

But if you’re someone who has a sweet tooth or someone who doesn’t want to give up their favorite fried meals, don’t worry! It’s not like you have to give it all up in one go. Crash diets don’t work and you’d just end up binging or being in a worse place than you were before.

To really take control of your health for the long term, please understand and accept the fact that it won’t be an easy journey. It won’t be a fast one either. As they say, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

Speaking of marathons, what you can do to start your fitness journey is use this month’s Yuletide bonuses to invest in sporting goods that you really need. This equipment and accessories won’t necessarily make you lose weight but it will be a source of inspiration when you don’t feel like working out.

Of course, aside from exercise, you must also fix your diet. The key to losing, gaining, or maintaining weight is calorie deficiency. However, if you’re thinking about becoming healthier and not just thinner, you should also take your macro and micronutrient levels into consideration.

  1. Manage your finances

Aside from the health aspect, 2020 has become either a good or bad year for every adult. Many lost their jobs. Others learned the value of side hustles that kept them afloat even as businesses shut down. Regardless of what you experienced this year, it’s about time that you make a budget. As a general rule, you must only budget the money you currently have and nothing more. Stop living paycheck to paycheck and start thinking about retirement as early as now.

If you’re someone who doesn’t love making a budget to restrict your cash flow, then I suggest you adopt a conscious spending plan instead.

  1. Make new milestone memories

I am assuming that by next year, most countries have already reopened and it’s time to bury all the bad memories of 2020 away. To do so, you should try to make new milestone memories like traveling abroad, going on a long vacation, or just spending more quality time with your family.

You can also try to step out of your comfort zone by applying to your dream job and hopefully, this includes being able to live in a different place.

On another note, your new milestone could also be finally pursuing the person you truly love.

  1. Learn a life skill and master it

This year, you can also aim for mastering a new life skill. Try to cook an actual recipe. Learn how to swim. Get your driver’s license. Learn a new language. The possibilities are endless! Just start doing it. I’m sure you’ll do great!

  1. Set up new systems

2021 is also a time to set new habits. I’m pretty sure you already have a set of habits that you’re probably unaware of but it’s time to review them, make edits, and improve on your systems to make you much more productive or ensure that you have enough time for work and play.

  1. Contribute to the kind of person you want to be

Look inside you. Are you happy with who you currently are? Are you satisfied with the type of person you are right now or do you want to make some changes? Fortunately, you can! I’m not talking about just physical changes but in terms of your character. Do you feel strongly attached or concerned about a particular sector or minority group in your hometown or abroad? Then it’s probably time you do something about it. Join a worthy cause. Start a passion project. Be someone who helps others especially now that the majority of humans are in deep trouble. Be the change you want to see.

Starting things right as soon as possible will allow you to move forward faster and stronger. Just be sure you can stay consistent for you to be able to reach your goals. Let’s do this!
