We’ve picked out six of the best spots to check out this winter, each with a menu that’s sure to keep you coming back for more.
Winter dining in London is more than just about warming up; it’s about embracing the flavours of the season. Think rich sauces, roasted meats, comforting stews, and indulgent desserts. And let’s not forget the festive touches that make this time of year extra special. So, if you’re ready to explore some exciting new winter menus, here’s where you need to go.
Let’s take a quick tour around six must-visit venues in the city. From a casual pub to a swanky café with spectacular views, these places have got winter dining all wrapped up.
Firebird
At Firebird, the cold weather is the perfect excuse to indulge in some seriously delicious seasonal offerings. Located in the heart of London, this modern dining spot serves up an array of dishes that are both comforting and full of flavour. Their winter menu showcases hearty dishes like slow-cooked lamb with root vegetables and rich sauces that feel like a warm hug on a plate. The focus is on quality ingredients, cooked to perfection, making every bite feel special.
For those with a sweet tooth, Firebird’s winter desserts are a must-try. Expect warming treats such as sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream, alongside their new spiced orange soufflé. The flavours are comforting and familiar, but with a subtle twist that makes them feel fresh and exciting. It’s a lovely choice for anyone looking to escape the chill of London’s winter streets.
Duke of Greenwich
This iconic pub in Greenwich always has a warm, inviting atmosphere, perfect for those seeking a hearty meal this winter. Their seasonal menu offers a wonderful selection of British pub classics, with a twist. Think beef Wellington with a rich gravy and winter greens, alongside a range of comforting pies, like the mushroom and chestnut puff pastry pie. If you’re in the mood for something lighter, their freshly made winter salads come with roasted squash, nuts, and feta, offering the right balance of hearty and healthy.
What sets the Duke of Greenwich apart is the setting itself. Picture a cosy pub, complete with wood-panelled walls and an open fire, making it feel like the perfect refuge from the cold. With traditional British fare that warms the soul, it’s an ideal spot to gather with friends or family for a winter feast.
The Mayfair Chippy
A modern twist on the British classic, The Mayfair Chippy pays homage to the iconic fish and chips – with an air of luxury, of course. The new location is nestled in Knightsbridge, offering a sophisticated but casual setting that elevates the humble chippy into a more fine dining experience. The fish is alway fresh and servd with perfectly cripy batter, alongside hand cut chips and mushy peas (how could you not?)
If you’re not feeling like fish and chips, there’s veggie and vegan options – as well as dishes such as lobster and crayfish roll. What’s more is gluten and dairy-free diners can also enjoy this delicious meal! While the mains all come in sizeable portions, we’d recommend you not skimp out on the starters, either. The crispy oyster mushrooms were a tasty plant-based choice, while the mussles definitely didn’t disappoint and the crispy squid might just be our new London favourite!
Lima
Lima at the Sun Street Hotel in Shoreditch is the place to experience the vibrant and intricate flavours of Peru, with a focus on contemporary, innovative dishes. Renowned for its exceptional use of native ingredients, the restaurant brings Peruvian cooking to a new level of sophistication, with a menu designed by chefs who have mastered the art of balancing bold spices and fresh, clean flavours.
Expect beautiful dishes like ceviche that bursts with citrus and herbs (and, of course, there’s multiple from which to choose) or a more delicate tiradito – you’re going to want to scoop up the tiger milk with a spoon. In addition to the iconic ceviche dish, Lima offers tasty tuna tartar bites, duck croquettes and an asparaus and goats cheese salad to start (though the latter could do with more of the listed ingredients and less quinoa, in our opinion). For larger plates, the wagyu beef with crispy potatoes was a warming dish ona winter’s day – while the sea bass in corn puree could not have been recommended enough. Delicious. Wash it all down with a pisco punch – but don’t forget to leave room for a glazed pineapple and queso cake.
Fifty Cheyne
There is no better spot to spend a weekend winter afternoon than Fifty Cheyne. The restaurant’s Saturday and Sunday roast (yes, you read that correctly) is a true celebration of British tradition, enhanced by the restaurant’s commitment to seasonal produce and impeccable cooking. With a stylish yet cosy atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to indulge in this beloved pre-work week ritual.
The roast meats, whether it’s a succulent roast beef (choose from 45-day aged rump, 40-day aged sirloin or the limited edition 100-day aged rib of belted Galloway beef), beautifully chargrilled Cumbrian chicken or a roasted heritage cauliflower, all dishes are complemented by the most impressive trimmings. Think fluffy Yorkshire puddings, crispy roast potatoes, and seasonal vegetables that shine in their simplicity (hispi cabbage, glazed carrots and sausage stufing. Plus all the gravy, bread sauce and horseradish one could want (there’s no dry plates here). The rich, flavourful gravy ties everything together, making each bite a comforting (and filling) delight.
Lakrids at Harvey Nichols
If you’ve got a sweet tooth and are looking for something truly special this winter, head up to the 5th floor of Harvey Nichols. The Lakrids dessert brings a Swedish twist to the holiday season; this indulgent treat features a perfect balance of smooth chocolate, tangy berries, and, of course, the signature Lakrids liquorice – making it a perfect winter dessert for those who want to try something a bit different. It’s beautifully plated and tastes as good as it looks, offering a perfect bite to satisfy your sweet cravings.
This seasonal addition to the menu is also a great excuse to explore the rest of the winter offerings at the Harvey Nichols café. Along with the Lakrids dessert, there’s a warming selection of indulgent chocolate truffles, as well as a chocolate brown that’s to die for. Wash it all down with the seasonal cocktails, courtesy of Patron. Whether you’re grabbing a bite after a little retail therapy or simply seeking a chic winter treat, this café has your back.
Farzi Café
If you fancy something a little more adventurous this winter, Farzi Café brings a fresh spin to Indian-inspired cuisine. Their winter menu includes dishes that combine familiar ingredients with bold, modern twists. Think slow-cooked lamb shank with aromatic spices or their signature dal, enriched with a complex mix of flavours. They also offer comforting options like their baked samosas, filled with tender lamb and served with mint chutney.
The ambience at Farzi Café is just as inviting as the food. It’s sleek, stylish, and full of energy, making it a great option for a night out. The mix of traditional Indian flavours with contemporary presentation makes this spot a standout in London’s winter dining scene.
Obicà
Obicà, known for its mozzarella and Italian fare, has recently launched a new menu that’s perfect for the colder months. Their winter offerings include rich, warming dishes like a delicious risotto with truffle and mushrooms, along with perfectly seared steaks drizzled with balsamic reduction. A standout is their new pasta dishes, including a creamy cacio e pepe with crispy pancetta, offering a delightful balance of richness and heat to keep you satisfied on chilly nights.

It’s the ideal place to enjoy a winter meal with a glass of Italian wine, soaking in the relaxed vibe of their sleek restaurant. Plus, if you’re a fan of mozzarella, there’s plenty to indulge in, from burrata to their signature mozzarella di bufala.

This cosy spot serves up delicate, flavour-packed dumplings, with new seasonal options added to the menu just in time for winter. Their pork and cabbage dumplings, served in a savoury broth, are perfect for warming up on a cold evening. The ginger and soy dipping sauce adds the perfect punch of flavour, making each bite better than the last.

Coq D’Argent
Perched above the City’s skyline, Coq d’Argent’s “Lodge d’Argent” brings the charm of an alpine ski chalet to the heart of London. This seasonal pop-up (open until March) transforms the rooftop into a cosy retreat, complete with wooden chalets, faux fur throws, and twinkling fairy lights, creating a magical winter atmosphere. Well, if the weather is going to continue to be this cold, we may as well indulge in the cosiest settings, eh?
The menu features hearty, alpine-inspired fare, including indulgent baked cheese (complete with grilled bread bites, but also pairing excellently with fries) and dishes such a wild mushroom tartiflette, honey and mustard cocktail sausages and cheese and charcuterie boards. Courvoisier cocktails take centre stage, offering sophisticated warmth with their expertly crafted blends of cognac and festive flavours (if the cold continues, so does Christmas). While there’s many on the menu, we recommend warming up with the Coq Toddy – thanks us later!
