A guide to your Cornish staycation
From stunning landscapes, endless sports activities, must-see landmarks and never-ending food and drink choices, Cornwall is the ultimate staycation destination.
To help you make the most out of your 72 hours, Perfect Stays has put together the ultimate Cornish itinerary.
Friday – South Cornwall Morning
If you’re looking for a nature-inspired holiday, Cornwall has some of the most beautiful gardens open to visitors.
The Eden Project houses the largest rainforest in captivity and a wealth of plants and natural wonders. Stroll between the mesmerising biomes to experience a range of diverse, exotic terrains.
Once you have finished your exploration, head to one of the many onsite cafes, which serve seasonal produce inspired by the exhibits around you.
If you’ve had your fill of foliage by the afternoon, stop at nearby unspoilt port town Charlestown, the filming location of Poldark. There’s usually at least one square rigger ship in the bay for you to marvel at!
It’s also home to the Shipwreck, Rescue and Heritage Centre, which is well worth a visit to learn more about Charlestown’s impressive maritime past, alongside many salvaged Cornish shipwrecks.
After you’ve got your historical kicks, stop by Tall Ships Creamery for local award-winning ice-cream and fudge.
In the evening, head around the coast to the harbour town of Fowey, the perfect place to watch the sunset.
Amongst the large selection of bars, restaurants and boutique shops, you’ll find a small but perfectly formed tapas bar, Pintxo. Stop here to end your first day with high-quality wine and tapas in a cosy seafront environment.
Saturday – North Cornwall Morning
If you think Cornwall is all about sunbathing on the beach, think again! Any adrenaline junkies are in for a treat.
For a spot of paddle boarding and sea safaris, look no further than Wavehunters based between Padstow and Polzeath or give coasteering and sea kayaking a try with Cornish Rock Tors.
After the morning’s activities, we recommend lunch at Surfside Café & Bar, located on Polzeath beach. With a menu made up of almost entirely Cornish produce, it will certainly be a memorable occasion.
Following your seafood feast, a lazy afternoon on the coast will probably seem just the ticket. Wander from the restaurant straight onto the beach to soak up the afternoon sun.
If you feel the need to stretch your legs, why not explore the coastline on foot? The walk from Polzeath to Lundy Bay Point will give you some of the best views Cornwall has to offer.
Cornwall is so much more than pasties and clotted cream. With its diverse foodie scene, it’s often hailed by experts as the food capital of the UK.
To end your day, Padstow is a must visit to have a walk around the harbour and watch the fishing boats come in. For a laid-back and family-friendly dinner, head to Prawn on the Lawn for casual but incredible seafood.
Sunday – West Cornwall Morning
For a bit of adventure on your final day, take a boat out to island abbey St Michael’s Mount. Admire the breath-taking views, learn about its rich history and hear tales of seafarers either lured by mermaids onto the rocks or guided to safety by an apparition of St Michael.
Afternoon and Evening
After your voyage, head into Marazion, Cornwall’s oldest town for lunch. Book a table at The Mount Haven Restaurant for a modern Sunday roast, inspired by nature.
For a bit of evening entertainment, visit The Minack Theatre, Cornwall’s world famous open-air theatre, carved into the granite cliff and set in glorious gardens overlooking the spectacular panorama of Porthcurno Bay.
The theatre opens an hour before every performance, so take a picnic and enjoy the amazing scenery.
So, whatever you decide to do in your 72 hours in Cornwall, it’s sure to be fantastic.
