Beloved by sun seekers all over the world, each of the Canary Islands offers a different experience. While each is a tropical paradise of golden sunshine and deep blue seas, the islands have their own unique attractions and atmospheres. Rather than settling on one destination, why not choose one to act as your base and still enjoy what the others have to offer? Island hopping gives you the chance to experience everything the Canaries have to offer, from partying on exotic beaches to horse riding through the mountains.

Getting from one island to another is relatively easy; you can catch a boat multiple times a day throughout the week. Choose your accommodation from one of the many gorgeous villas from Oliver’s Travels before heading out to explore more of what this striking destination has to offer. Here we’ll be discussing the four main islands, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, and what you can experience there.

Tenerife

The largest and loudest of all the islands, Tenerife is renowned for its lively party spirit. Stroll through Av. Rafael Puig Lluvina – also known as Veronicas Strip – to find a number of clubs and bars, all serving delicious cocktails and bites to eat. After enjoying a night of partying, make sure you have time to explore beyond the nightlife. Tenerife boasts an incredible landscape, including Mount Teide, the third highest island volcano in the entire world. If you want to spend more time by the sea, you’ll be delighted to know that Tenerife is the home of whale watching.

Fuerteventura

If you’re looking for nothing less than pure relaxation, Fuerteventura is the island for you. With a laid back, cheery atmosphere and a seemingly endless coast of glistening water, there’s nothing better than catching some rays on the beach. There are 150 kilometres of white sand to explore should you fancy a stroll, plus plenty of activities to get stuck into should you crave some excitement. From windsurfing to jetskiing, enjoy a new experience before sampling some of the delicious fresh seafood and cheese that the island specialises in.

Gran Canaria

Renowned for its rocky landscape, volcanic craters and sand dunes, Gran Canaria offers incredible natural beauty. Imagine sunning yourself on one of the many incredible beaches this island has to offer before enjoying a guided horse ride through the mountains as the sun sets. Those seeking a more thrilling experience should hop on a dune buggy and navigate the rugged terrain instead.

Lanzarote

Similarly to Tenerife, Lanzarote is known for its endless cocktail bars, upmarket pubs and dynamic clubs. Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca, in particular, are famed for their dynamic nightlife. If you prefer a more traditional Spanish vibe, head to one of Arrecife’s many bars instead. Either way, you can head straight from the golden coast to the most buzzing bars in the Canaries in a matter of minutes. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is all it has to offer, however; this beautiful island also boasts a friendly culture, plenty of fresh food and beautiful natural features such as lava caves that can be explored.

Whether you settle down in Fuerteventura or party away in Lanzarote, make sure you have time to enjoy some island hopping. This ensures that not only do you get to experience the best of the island you choose but the rest of the Canaries, too.
