March 3rd, 2023
You’ve got your flights booked and your hotel reserved - now you need things to do while in San Francisco. You’ve surely added the Golden Gate Bridge to your agenda and possibly considered scaling the city's many winding roads and hills.
But what new places should you visit in Northern California’s cultured and vibrant city?
We’ve been doing the digging, so you don’t have to, and we’ve found out about two new exciting openings coming to San Francisco in 2023 that you must check out!
San Francisco will open a new waterfront neighbourhood, Mission Rock, in 2023. The 28-acre Mission Rock development is due to welcome visitors and guests in the second quarter of 2023, just in time for those warm summer nights. Mission Rock is a collaboration between the San Francisco Giants, renowned developer Tishman Speyer and the Port of San Francisco. The project intends to create an entirely new neighbourhood and community. Plotted just across the water from Oracle Park, Mission Rock will be home to a five-acre waterfront park, rental homes to suit all budgets, open spaces and retail and innovative workspaces. We hear that Visa Inc.’s global headquarters will even reside at Mission Rock! Mission Rock aims to be a living embodiment of the future of San Francisco, so if you’re considering spending more than a short break in the city, this might be the best way to experience the city’s lifestyle.
With more and more of us working remotely, Mission Rock is the type of place that invites people from across the globe to pitch up their remote office in the heart of San Francisco. If you love to travel as much as we do, it’s always good to find places for longer stays where you get to experience the true culture of the location.
Japanese Inspired Hi-Fi Bar - Yokai
One of San Francisco’s most exciting venues will certainly be the Japanese Inspired Hi-Fi bar, Yokai. Expected to open in San Francisco’s SoMa neighbourhood at the start of 2023, this concept is designed in collaboration between Chef Marc Zimmerman and tech entrepreneur Ben Jorgensen. You’ll find the 60-cover restaurant and cocktail bar at 545 Mission Street, a short walk from its sister restaurant, Ittoryu Gozu. The creators have taken extensive inspiration from Japan’s after-work social culture, with the venue's name meaning “spirit” in Japanese. The concept invites guests to share and indulge in fine sharing plates full of delicious Japanese cuisine. With slow-roasted Wagyu neck and steamed Japanese sea bream, it’ll be a feast for the taste buds. And you can’t have a Japanese-inspired bar without an extensive Japanese whisky collection and delightful cocktails. The decor calls back to pre-prohibition designs with lofty ceilings and exposed brickwork. Let’s not forget the music; there’s an elaborate jazz vinyl collection to browse that gets pumped through a vintage McIntosh sound system. This new opening is set to be sleek and sophisticated, with a touch of glamour to boot.
