Nestled in the heart of York’s historic Holgate area, Railway House is making a grand entrance onto the scene. This stylish collection of self-catered holiday apartments, opening its doors on the 14th of July, offers an exquisite fusion of history and modern luxury. I had the pleasure of staying there recently with my mum, Jane, and our experience was nothing short of delightful…

A Grand Transformation: From Holgate House to Railway House in York

Built in the 1850s, this impressive building, originally known as Holgate House, boasts a rich history tied to the Brandling Junction Railway on Tyneside. It’s been lovingly transformed into eight luxurious self-catering apartments, featuring not only top-notch amenities but also nods to its railway heritage throughout. From rooms named after platforms to cleverly incorporated metals in the design and carefully curated artwork, Railway House is a true homage to its past.

The brainchild of property developer Neil Cook, Railway House is part of the Chateau Anna portfolio, a collection of Airbnbs across York, each infused with a touch of French style.

The interior design, a captivating blend of rustic charm and industrial flair, was masterfully executed by Lucy Seddon of Helston Street Interiors. Upon stepping into the apartments, we were greeted by opulent copper bathtubs, custom-made beds, intricate tiling by Bert & May, and luxurious hardware by Corston. One highlight was the reclaimed marble bathtub in the bathroom—a true indulgence for those seeking the ultimate in relaxation.

Priceless Luxury: Railway House’s Affordable Rates for All Budgets

We stayed in one of the two-bedroom apartments, which offered a spacious living area, a dining space, and a fully equipped kitchen. The attention to detail in the apartment was remarkable, and we instantly felt at home. Prices for these luxury apartments start from just £250 per night, offering a range of options to suit different budgets.

What sets Railway House apart is its commitment to providing an exceptional experience. For guests looking to elevate their stay, private dining in the apartment or even a private cocktail-making workshop can be arranged. Corporate clients can also take advantage of the apartments for meetings or entertaining.

A Personal Touch: Neil Cook and the Family Legacy of Chateau Anna

As a family business, Railway House holds a special place in Neil Cook’s heart. In fact, “Chateau Anna” is named after Neil’s little girl, emphasising the personal touch that defines this property. During our stay, it was wonderful to finally meet Neil in person after years of online connection, reinforcing the sense of community and care that defines Railway House.

Another unique feature of Railway House is its outdoor space, a rarity in city centre accommodations. This beautifully landscaped area adds to the overall serenity and elegance of the property, creating a tranquil atmosphere from the moment you arrive.

Our stay at Railway House was nothing short of exceptional. The blend of history, luxury, and attention to detail makes this a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience York in style. As we reluctantly checked out, my mother and I were already planning our return trip. Railway House truly is the perfect base to explore York city centre and kick back and relax.

All aboard for an unforgettable experience!
