Ana Engelhorn is a residential interior designer delivering exceptional residential interiors throughout London and the UK. Born in Switzerland and with Spanish and German roots, her interest in travel and experiencing new cultures manifested into a love of design and art.

Having designed a range of spaces across Europe (including her own), she understands that interior design is so much more than simply decorating beautiful rooms; it’s about crafting hard-working homes that make life easier and enjoyable.

Here she chats to us at House of Coco and tells us more…

When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
I have been doing Interior Design for a while but mostly for myself, family and friends. My recent move to London has led me to move this passion into the next level and try to make a business out of it. I believe to be good at what you do you have to do what you are passionate about. I am passionate about making homes and places for people that are not only beautiful but also homely and full of history. I love working with different types of furniture and finishes and making it all come together.

Whats your background?
I have a background in Hospitality, running a restaurant and bar for 6 years with a friend in St. Moritz, Switzerland. I went on from there to work in my families farm in Spain, learning about wine and the cultivation of organic produce. I decided I wanted to spruce up my academic learnings and did a Program in a Spanish Business School called IESE. From there I slowly glided into Interior Design, doing my certification and setting up the Business.

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
The hardest thing is the beginning, when no one knows you and you are one of many. There are thousands of Interior Designers in London and to stick out is hard. You just need that initial person that believes in you, loves what you do and takes the plunge.

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
I am very shy, selling myself is the hardest thing I have done.

Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?
I have just moved to London so I definitely have to say London, I nevertheless used to spend 1 month a year in Paris, I loved it, when I was younger I was constantly drawn there. I also love the language.

Style means….?
Whatever you want it to mean. I don’t think its so much what you wear but your ability to pull it off.

Best thing about London to you?
The constant buzz, things never stop here. Everyone is different and that makes life colourful. I also have to say that I love how people enjoy the outside here.

If you had to, what piece of clothing from your wardrobe would you wear everyday?
String Top, keep it simple, you’ll never know what you have to do

Favourite love song?
Dionne Warwick – That’s what friends are for

Best place for a coffee?
Pavilion Road

Most memorable piece of advice given to you?
Take one day at a time

Guilty pleasure?
Ibiza Sun lounger, music in the background and a Coronita in my hand

If you could spent 24 hours in anywhere in the world, where would it be?
On a Sailboat in Formentera

In future, how do you plan on expanding the company?
Bit by bit, first having freelancers help me out when needed, getting to know them and employ the ones who fit with the Business ideology.
