Behind The Brand : Bush Oil®

Personal grooming and intimate discussions on what people are doing “down below” are openly discussed now, more than ever, and very regularly at House of Coco HQ. Whilst sat in a pub after a hard day’s work and having a discussion on what people do and how styles have changed through the years, this is exactly how Nina and Andy identified a gap in the marketplace.

In their opinion our “Bushes” need loving and TLC making people feel confident and awesome. Here, they tell us more…

When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
We were very excited to launch Bush Oil ® in Mid November 2015.  We recognised a growing market in personal grooming products, but we couldn’t identify a single one that catered for intimate hair!  There are either clinical, sexual or uncool products in the market, that in most cases, people feel embarrassed to buy let alone use.  We have created a modern, trendy brand that embraces the need to maintain your “bush” making you feel great and smell awesome which empowers both men and women alike.

Whats your background?
Nina and I (Andy) both come from strong, creative sales and marketing backgrounds with experience of running our own businesses.

How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?
Currently two, as we are a very young company, but we have a good infrastructure of manufacture and distribution behind us.

Its an equal partnership but Nina usually wins.  Joking aside we’re in this together and we make a very good team.

If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?
I think the biggest lesson we learnt quite early, was doing things over email, such as design, may not be the the most efficient way, in terms of time and money.  Never underestimate the value in face to face meetings!

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
I think of all the aspects we have faced, such as, distribution, investment and branding (which have been easy) the hardest challenge we have faced is press and coverage.  After all this is for the everyday person and the subject of “au naturel” intimate hair is getting a large amount of coverage in mainstream media, such as broadsheet newspapers and beauty magazines which our product is relevant to and is the only product like it in the UK.

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
Nina has one hot foot and one cold one….I just found this out….wow!!

Andy lived in Hong Kong for three years as a kid and was a model for a kids toy company.

2016 is here, where do you plan on taking the brand?
Growing both our indirect and direct sales and adding new products to the range, as well as expanding our network into other territories such as Europe and the US. We want Bush Oil to be the number 1 product in this area and to be part of an everyday grooming regime for the public.

To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
Seeing the vision in our minds turn into a real product in our hands that encompassed everything and more that we wanted to create.  The brand really conveys the fun, no nonsense, humorous approach to what the product does and we should all be proud to groom our “gardens.”
