Sass + Co. Body was launched late in 2017 by Colette Tattoli, although the journey began many years before. Growing up in the fashion industry, this inspired her to pursue her own dreams in the world of fashion & beauty. In the time of running her own fashion business, she was witness to young women’s slavish pursuit of unrealistic body ideals. Rejecting this promotion of superficiality she pursued a career in Holistic Therapies, becoming a Shiatsu Practitioner. This led to a passion for the creation of all natural formulas to further enhance her holistic practice. As the years rolled on, she found her love for all things beautiful, although edgy in the fashion world re-emerged, but on her own terms.
A woman that we can’t get enough of here at House of Coco, we spent some time with her finding out more…
When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
I created Sass + Co. Body and have promoted empowerment and individuality; hoping to offer a voice of reason amongst a sea of unrealistic beauty expectations. I wanted to create a brand using all natural formulas with edgy aesthetics that would appeal to people who prefer natural ingredients, but like also products with a bit of edge because let’s face it; there’s a lot of beige out there.
I created a brand that celebrates the beauty of individuality, looking beyond predictable stereotypes.
Whats your background?
Business, Natural therapies, Fashion and Music.
How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?
Writers, Copy Editors, Web designer, Cosmetic chemist… the list goes on. It’s fluid.
If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?
Make friends with Accounting. Thankfully I have a person for that.
What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
Being time poor, juggling family life and work (says everybody in small business). Well, it can also be difficult getting the message across that your brand is more than a ‘product’. A challenge I actually enjoy.
Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
I grew up in rural Australia. Actually, I often tell people this after a few drinks..
2019 is almost here, where do you plan on taking the brand?
Further into the retail world and around the globe. I love the discovery of a hidden apothecary or little retail outlets in obscure locations.
To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
Our first Sass + Co.Body photo shoot and being involved with such creativity. My crew were just fabulous. We launched with an explosive campaign featuring Australian model, Stefania Ferrario, who is an absolute joy to work with and an avid Body Positive activist. You can see the results via my website and Insta. Absolutely Stunning!
Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?
London. I have a love affair with London, it’s one of my homes.
Three beauty products you can’t leave the house without?
My Body Scrub, I can’t imagine a Sunday morning without it!
Roxxi + Sioux Skin’s Cleanser and Caffinated moisturiser.
Being yourself. What ever that may be.. you’ll pull it off!
Best thing about London to you?
My mates and a heaving party, of course.
If you had to, what piece of clothing from your wardrobe would you wear everyday?
My Studded Leather Jacket, I live in it.
Favourite love song?
Ohhh.. I can’t choose between Suzanne (Leonard Cohen) and Jackie (Sinead O’Connor)
Best place for a coffee?
Prudence in North Melbourne. We’re talking Coffee Martini, right?!
Most memorable piece of advice given to you?
Emotional Intelligence to me is to live in the moment and to hold yourself through your best moments exactly like your worst. I’m sure a philosopher wrote about it somewhere…
To be honest I don’t feel guilt or regret and anyway, I can’t give all my secrets away!
If you could spent 24 hours in anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Somewhere secluded emerged in the Katherine Gorge, Northern Australia or Broome in Western Australia, but back in the 70’s.
In future, how do you plan on expanding the company?
More luscious products on the market and I have another brand to launch later this year. Watch this space!
