For some of us starting our own business is not on the agenda, for others, it’s in our blood. We sat down with Lucie Marchelot Shukla, a master of reinvention and serial entrepreneur to discover the story behind her newest enterprise, Straight Teeth Direct™

HOC: Great to meet you, Lucie! Can you tell us about your journey to creating Straight Teeth Direct™ ? I see you have started businesses before, would love to know about your ‘serial entrepreneur’ journey….

Lucie: Yes! I have changed my career and industry quite a few times. I studied Law and then moved to London to study Art History at Christie’s. I worked for a leading auction house for a short while and very quickly realised that it wasn’t for me ; the corporate environment or the industry. In truth, I didn’t feel challenged enough.

I realised that I needed to do something else; entrepreneurship had always been my end goal and I thought why not now, after 1 year of working and training! I started my first business, completely alone. It was called the Indian Art Centre and it was an online gallery selling Indian antiques. I did everything from building my website, doing my PR, my own social media. I really enjoyed working on the business growth. But it wasn’t an exciting enough business or growth potential in that industry for a 25 year old. You also don’t feel like you are helping anyone; it’s not transformative and I didn’t feel fulfilled.

So that’s when I decided to join my husband and business partner at his private dental clinic in London. I was managing sales, marketing and operations; I really enjoyed this and helped grow the business; we doubled and sold it in 2016 and had discovered the cheapest way to straighten teeth! Because we had created a strong system to grow sales and attract the right kind of patient – adults looking to get straight teeth, quickly, without much inconvenience and without a super high price tag – we could support other dental practices to do the same. We created a marketing agency to help other dentists grow their businesses and help more people get straight teeth with online training courses, events and done for you systems. It worked really well but again, it was more like a lifestyle business; you couldn’t really scale it. We were looking for something with a global potential and we found that with Straight Teeth Direct™ !

So it’s been about transitioning from a lifestyle business to a high growth business; with a product, not just a service. Our business combines manufacturing, logistics and the digital platform ; it’s much broader and scalable than my previous businesses. Since we launched to the public in S/S 2017 we have had users from over 43 countries!

HOC: Who is Straight Teeth Direct for?

Lucie: Our solution is for busy professional who love to have everything delivered to them! The majority of our users are female at the moment but more and men are joining us. A lot of our users are people that haven’t been wearing their retainers and want to get their ideal smiles back.

Others travel a lot and might start treatment in one country and then need to move. They like our solution as it’s convenient and there’s no interruption in their treatment, or additional cost. At the end of the day, we attract people looking for a confidence and self-esteem boost through looking and feeling good.

HOC: Why did you create Straight Teeth Direct?

Lucie: As you saw in our first question; I love a challenge! I am ambitious and have big plans for my future. Straight Teeth Direct™ business model allows us to really transform an industry which is rewarding on both a personal entrepreneurial journey level and also more widely; we can reach and help so many more people to feel their best.

Being in the industry with our previous businesses, we saw there were clear problems to be solved and that’s what we’re here to do.

We saw the need coming for our service through our work in the industry; we would have many enquiries that wouldn’t get resolved ; in the end, to get treatment at a small practice is still quite expensive. From the other side, we knew Dentists wanted to work less and earn more and our solutions works with them in a smart way with a digital layer, not against them ; so Straight Teeth Direct™ helps both sides!

HOC: What was your very first job (when you were 15/16), can you see any relation to what you are doing now?

Lucie: If I really think back to when I was 15,16 ; I was helping out at my Dad’s business; a pharmacy. I was taking it super seriously and that’s something that really stuck with me! I always really care about what I do, whatever I’m doing. I also worked in a shoe shop in Greece when I did my Erasmus; I’ll always give it my 100%!

My Dad has always been my role model, in terms of entrepreneurship. He always inspired me to be my own boss. He was one of the first in his region to use robots to deliver medication to the counters! He always wanted to stay ahead of the game and inspired me to be a risk taker.

I have two siblings and we are all entrepreneurs- it’s the mindset we’ve picked up from our Dad. He really educated us to not take things for granted; you’ve got to work hard!

HOC: If you weren’t doing this, what could have career plan B looked like?

Lucie: It would have to be as an entrepreneur as I would never see myself working for someone! It’s in my blood!

I guess, if it had to be something absolutely different to having and growing a business I would say being a professional dancer.

HOC: I see on your LinkedIn that “being called a “female” entrepreneur can irritate you”, can you tell us more about this?

Lucie: I’m happy that we’re discussing this! In truth; I could talk about this for hours! This point around being a ‘Girl Boss’ or ‘Female Entrepreneur’ is not black or white and there are lots of different viewpoints; I certainly don’t want to upset anyone but I worry that always speaking about gender is limiting.

My thinking is that I don’t like labels or putting myself into a box that could restrict me in any way. We don’t have such a thing as dadpreneur so I don’t see why women should be constantly referred to as female entrepreneur or mumpreneur . Personally, I’ve never felt strongly about belonging to female groups or having female only mentors; my Dad was my role model and I have equally been inspired by strong independent women.

I feel that it’s dangerous to restrict yourself and limit your mindset. You could think ‘because I’m a female…’, you see everything through the eye of a female. Yes, I get sexist comments at work but I want to be recognised for my talents and achievements but not because ‘you’re female and we feel sorry for you, so we’re going to give you an award.’

It’s a delicate topic and we have to do things and raise awareness. Of course, in Europe we are privileged whereas in other parts of the world things are much much worse for women.

In Europe, I don’t see being female as a weakness, it’s a strength. When we have meetings with investors, and I’m in a room with 10 men and I’m the only woman, that empowers me.

HOC: What are your ambitions for your brand this year?

Lucie: So much is happening! We are doing a tube campaign and launching in major department stores across Europe this quarter. I’m so excited to see the response from our new retail model and keep experimenting with new channels. The goal is for our brand to be recognised as a leading e-commerce / leader in the aligner space in Europe by the end of the year…

HOC: How do you keep your energy and motivation up?

Lucie: Energy wise I used to go to the gym but with all the traveling and unexpected schedule it’s impossible to stick to sessions. So I try to stick to a few things:

  • I am instead trying to keep my anxiety levels down with regular massages. I also eat super healthy; I’m all about an organic meat-free lifestyle.
  • I also start my day, every day, with a small simple breathing and movement routine.

I am giving everything to this business at the moment and I know it is for a short number of years. Unlike with a lifestyle business, you know a high growth phase is not going to last forever, so that keeps me motivated! My immediate motivation is to see our customer satisfaction and positive feedback about their transformation and experience using our platform!

HOC: Your business marries technology and great customer service, what tech is exciting you at the moment outside of your product?

Lucie: I like tech that is useful and beautiful; I love to watch the direct to consumer space; that really excites me. I’m always looking for the new trends and getting inspiration.

I really like what’s happening in beauty tech with devices as well as in health; doing your own high end facial or taking your DNA at home, for instance. I’d love to see more innovation in fashion and retail. I went to a Reformation store in NYC and oh, I was so excited; I was taking a picture of everything!

Their store really inspired me and made me think about how we do things differently. They have a screen where you can choose your items to try on and then the items are already in the changing room! If you want another size you just select on screen in the changing room, close the wardrobe and then the rail automatically updates with your choice. It’s just really cool.

Everyone else in the store was all cool, waiting for their turn. And I was like, what is going to happen next?!

HOC: The ’10 years ago’ challenge is all the rage on insta at the moment, what advice do you have for the 2009 you?

Lucie: I’ve got two pieces of advice that might help others.

One, I would tell my younger self to keep going; you don’t need 10 years of experience to have the knowledge to do something great. You will learn along the way if you are committed to it. You will have to make sacrifices, of course. And remember, everything you learn along the way, will be transferable. Initially I thought oh god, I studied these subjects; I have to do something in this space. But actually, I learnt how to be structured from Law and developed my aesthetic eye through my Art degree ; now I use both in my work with Straight Teeth Direct™ every day! You don’t have to wait and have a long plan. Honestly, you don’t learn that much if you work for someone else; you have to get your hands dirty!

Secondly, my advice is to never regret anything, everything is a learning and growth experience. I would never wish I had done something differently.

It can be a common misconception that, in order to make money, you need money. Lucy Hilson smashes this out the water with the incredible success she’s seen with both Cosmetic PR and SKN REHAB– read on to learn some of her Girl Boss wisdom!

HOC: Great to speak with you, Lucy! Tell us about your business Cosmetic PR…

Lucy: I’d love to! I launched Cosmetic PR back in 2015. I have over 15 years experience in Beauty PR and a real passion for skincare, skin treatments, and in particular more advanced treatments such as laser rejuvenation, skin peels, PRP and aesthetic treatments. With this love for everything cosmetic, I saw a gap in the market for aesthetic specialist PR: there were no other PR agencies with this niche and it’s an industry that was and still is growing rapidly.

So – with nothing but an iPhone and a notebook – Cosmetic PR was born. I had the idea and knew what I wanted to do but had no savings to invest, nor did I want outside investors. So I saved up enough to buy a laptop and started to contact beauty brands that could be potential clients. Days later my first client signed up, followed by a second, a third, and so on…

We’re just going through a rebrand and the new website just launched! We’re now more focused on aesthetics and skincare whereas before our site was more mass market. When I launched Cosmetic PR the plan was to have a strong beauty and medical aesthetics niche, so I’m just taking it back to that original vision. This the heart of the business – we stay true to our passion and focussed on our area of expertise.

My dream client would probably be Dr Simon Ourian! Or the guys from (the TV show) Botched; they always seem to be enjoying their work. I’m also skincare obsessed and would love to work on a brand like ZO Skin Health.

HOC: And you are also the founder of SKN REHAB?

Lucy: Yes, my love for skincare and skin treatments led me to meet my now business partners and ultimately to the launch of SKN REHAB. We all have a background in the beauty industry and between us we’ve probably tried every treatment going! We were hooked on cosmeceutical skincare and results-driven treatments and wanted to create something that would combine our favourite treatments for powerful and effective results.

The SKN REHAB machine combines 5 different technologies that target and treat specific skin concerns (from Diamond Microdermabrasion to Pure Oxygen and LED) We use the 5 different technologies together with potent active ingredients which we drive into the skin using a mild electrical current. The results are amazing! My knowledge of the skin, ingredients and how they worked certainly helped with the development stages of SKN REHAB. With my background in Beauty PR I also had the knowledge of what would be appealing to the UK press, what sort of story each product needed and what would look good on the pages of a magazine. When we created SKN REHAB we knew we wanted a serious product line, but didn’t want to stick with the usual ‘clinical’ look & feel of a serious skincare brand.

HOC: It you weren’t doing this, what could have career plan B looked like?

Lucy: My working life started working in a clothes shop on the King’s Road, 3 days a week at 16. I didn’t love it but it taught me the value of money and I got a great discount on clothes which was the main reason I worked there!

In an alternate life, I would love to be in the FBI solving murder cases! It’s a bit weird I know but I’ve always been fascinated with shows like Forensic Files. Or maybe I’d just travel the world and start mini business ventures everywhere I go. I truly believe you can make a successful business out of anything – it’s about finding your passion and just making it work!

HOC: Now you have a little one, how has this impacted the way you work?

Lucy: My son was actually my driving force behind starting Cosmetic PR! I had become a single parent and was struggling on the salary I was on at the time. I was practically working just to pay his childcare costs (which are extremely high in London) and was living in a tiny one bedroom flat just making ends meet. I wanted more for us both and I knew I had to do something to give us a better life. Creating Cosmetic PR was the perfect solution, not only did it allow me to live my passion but it gave me the flexibility I needed being a sole parent.

Running the business was a challenge at the start because my son was just one when I started the business and still didn’t sleep through the night; so I was up all night (several times a night) with him and working on my business all day. Now he’s five and is in school so it’s much easier to get work done without falling asleep at my desk!

HOC: You must have crazy busy days, what hacks do you have for running your business smoothly?

Lucy: I’ve got a ‘business hub’ on Trello to ensure everything runs smoothly. When you have a lot of clients it’s really important that everything is in order and you know where you’re at in terms of coverage targets etc. I’m also obsessed with Canva at the moment, it’s brilliant for creating social media designs, newsletters and presentations.

HOC: Being a beauty expert, we’d love to know what your top work bag pick me ups are for long work days?

Lucy:For skin, the SKN REHAB actives are brilliant for when I’m on the go, they come in a pack of 7 so ideal for travelling. SKN Drench is my favourite – it contains a high content of hyaluronic acid for extreme hydration; perfect for use whilst flying too!

I also love the Bobbi Brown BB cream, it’s my daily go-to for a flawless complexion. I also make sure I use SPF50 on my face every day to protect against UV/UB rays (yes even in winter!). Just a few products, my iPhone, macbook, diary and I’m good to go!

HOC: Finally, what keeps you grounded when everything is crazy with work and life?

Lucy: Definitely my son! It’s the little things, like watching a film together on the sofa eating popcorn. We also love to go bowling, or to the park and feed the ducks. Just listening to him sing me a song, or tell me a funny story… It makes my day, and makes me remember why I’m doing it all.

It’s 2019 and #TeamCoco are a collective of writers who are looking to become much more sustainable, whether it be through recycling more, reducing our carbon footprint, eating vegetarian or vegan foods, or buying fair trade, this is the year we are standing up and making some changes.

This February into March sees Fair Trade Fortnight run across the UK (25 Feb – 10 Mar), with events taking place in businesses, schools, local communities, and nationally with big brand awareness activities. It’s where people come together to help support developing countries who farm, produce and grow plants and food for equal pay and where fair prices are paid by the companies who supply the products for retail.

We have compiled our current fave 5 fair trade beauty products for 2019, all available in the UK either on the high street or online, and they won’t break the bank, which is always a bonus.

Fair Squared

The skincare range from Fair Squared, which includes; face, body, hand and hair care, as well as an ‘intimate care’ collection is not only certified natural and organic, but also carries the coveted Fair Trade seal; meaning that they pay a Fair Trade premium for the ingredients that they source. This in turn means producers, plantation workers and small-scale farmers and their families can improve their living and working conditions, as well as providing environmental and economic sustainability, without child labour or animal testing. We love everything about Fair Squared.

The organic and natural beauty range includes face and body products such as hand cream (£8.95), body lotion (£14.45), facial cream (£12.95), shampoo (£9.95), body scrub (£10.95), shower gel (£9.95), body butter (£10.95) lip balm (£5.45) and more. These products are joined by a naturally pH-balanced ‘intimate care’ range, including: intimate wash (£8.95), exfoliator (£11.95), deodorant cream (£11.95) and spray (£22.95).

If you’re lucky enough to be hitting the slopes, then we have rounded up some cult beauty products that you need to add to your regime. These little wonders will help you battle the harsh conditions that the tricky combination of sun and snow will put you through because why shouldn’t you look effortlessly radiant as you glide down a mountain?

Lips; By Terry – Baume de Rose Le Soin Lèvres

This cult beauty lip balm is a staple for any beauty lovers make-up bag. The formula is packed with Vitamin E and antioxidants to protect lips and an SPF15 to help prevent damage. Pastel oils boost cell renewal and gives a pale pink glossy shine to the lips; it’s also not sticky so you won’t have to worry about your hair sticking to your lips as you glide down then slopes. This little wonder is also a saviour for your cuticles!

Face; Charlotte Tilbury – Hollywood Flawless Filter Complexion Booster

This has revolutionised my make-up bag, I still don’t understand what it is but it’s a life-saver. It’s not a primer, not a foundation and not a highlighter, yet no matter how you use it, you’re sure to love it. For ski days using as an all over base will give you an airbrushed effect with a glossy finish. For après-ski you can use as a base for foundation or use on top of foundation to smooth and highlight any areas that may need a boost. Smoothing polymers and moisturising oils make sure it doesn’t cake or settle into creases ensuring a fresh faced and effortless look.

SPF; Sisley Phyto-Blanc Brightening Daily Defense Fluid

Everyone knows that whilst skiing you’re at a high risk of skin damage as snow is highly reflective of UV radiation so sunburn is not only a faux pas you want to avoid (ski goggle lines) but is of course a serious condition you need to avoid. So ensuring you have a proper SPF in your beauty kit is necessary. Sisley is a leading brand within skincare but its range of suntan lotions are another level. This little gem is SPF 50 which will truly protect your skin as it’s 100% minerals help reflect UV light and phytosqualine keeps skin moisturised and soft. Vitamin B5 continues to keep skin hydrated and Vitamin C helps reduce dark spots. The formula is the perfect base for any other products and can be applied on top throughout the day.

Eyes; La Mer – The Eye Concentrate

Many of us take such good care of our skin and hair but tend to disregard our eye area, when in fact this area is one that needs the most TLC. The La Mer miracle broth has renewing properties that leaves the under eye area supple. The marine ferment brightens skin and helps protect future damage, the silver tipped applicator is cooling and boosts micro-circulation, so having this as part of your beauty kit not only helps to reduce your dark circles but adds a little bit of luxury to your daily routine.

Moisturiser; Clinique – Moisture Surge

This has been in my beauty kit since I was 13 years old, it’s my mums secret weapon and 13 years of using it later, I can see why. Instantly plumping and moisturising the skin. Use as a moisturiser and tap over make-up throughout the day to give skin the ultimate glow and will ensure that the harsh conditions skiing puts you through wont show. If your skin needs a little more nourishment then apply a generous amount to your skin, leave for 5 minutes so thirsty skin can absorb what it needs before dabbing off the excess, leaving your face and neck deeply nourished and hydrated.

Face Mask; Rodial – Pink Diamond Lifting Face Mask

If the conditions on the mountains are a little too harsh for you or après-ski has started to take it’s toll on you then it’s time to allow your skin a little indulgence. These face masks by Rodial contain wheat proteins are full of collagen so firm and tighten the skin. Pink grapefruit is a natural extract which is rich in antioxidants so lightly exfoliates the skin and allows the diamond powder to work its magic giving a multi-dimensional brightening effect.

Hair; Kerastase – Elixir Ultimate Rose Hair Oil

Skiing doesnt only wreak havoc on our skin, it can also make our hair unruly, so it’s best to keep it out of harms way. Plaits or buns are best to keep it from tangling but if you’re adamant to look chic then you need to take good care of it. This oil by Kerastase contains white tea extract and cameilia and marula oils that tame frizz, give hair shine an provides heat protection. It can also be used as a leave in treatment that deeply nourishes and amplifies colour. So whether you simply run it through hair before drying, apply it to dry hair after styling or leave in as an overnight treatment, your hair will be forever grateful.

Many of the treatments are inspired by ancient recipes brewed by the monks who were Monkey Island’s first recorded inhabitants in the 12th century. Monkeyislandestate.co.uk

Whether cosmetic surgery is for you or not #TeamCoco are happy when you’re happy, and if that means embracing all your natural lumps and bumps, or having a little nip and tuck, we’re all for your happiness and wellbeing.

So, we asked leading expert Aesthetic Surgeon, Professor Marcos Sforza of MyAesthetics all about the health essentials when considering cosmetic surgery. Here are his 6 cosmetic surgery health essentials.

The decision to undergo cosmetic surgery isn’t something that should be taken lightly. However, if you do decide a procedure is the right choice for you, it’s important you’re aware of what you need to consider before proceeding.

Professor Marcos Sforza, an Expert Aesthetic Surgeon at MyAesthetics, shares his expert tips on the major health considerations you need to know…

Let’s talk about allergies

It’s vital you’re candid with your surgeon about any known allergies you might have experienced, before undergoing a cosmetic procedure. You should mention any minor past reactions too such as those experienced from silver or nickel in jewellery, watch straps or waistbands.

While most allergic reactions are not life-threatening, they can be uncomfortable and, in some cases, require extra treatment in the form of topical corticosteroids or antihistamines.

For example; some dressings contain ingredients such as acrylates, silicones, rubber and latex which can cause irritation to those with sensitive skin.

Keep your weight in check

There is strong evidence indicating there are higher rates of complications for patients with both very high and low BMIs. So, if you’re thinking about going down the surgical route, it’s important you’re in the best physical condition possible.

According to guidelines from NHS England, treatment ‘is safer and more likely to work if you’ve first got to a healthier weight’ and to achieve optimum results for cosmetic surgery procedures, it’s typically best if your BMI is under 30.

Being overweight can increase your chances of developing sleep apnoea, a complicating factor in the administration of general anaesthesia. Excessive weight can also put the body under more strain and slow down your recovery after surgery.

Cut it out

While some people anticipate having to give up smoking and drinking before they embark on surgery, many people do not recognise you should also press pause on these activities for some time after your procedure too.

Nicotine causes the blood vessels to become narrower, restricting blood supply to organs and tissues which can impede a wound’s recovery post-surgery. We strongly advise patients to stop smoking at least 2 weeks before surgery to help reduce complications. In fact, according to recent findings, smokers require 33 percent more anaesthesia during an operation than non-smokers.

Drinking alcohol should also be avoided as it can have a negative impact on the body’s natural healing process. Regular alcohol consumption prior to surgery could mean you’ll reduce the effectiveness of sedatives and anaesthetic agents during a procedure, resulting in a possible slower recovering time.

It’s also important to discuss if you use any recreational drugs too, as this can increase anaesthetic risks. Just be honest, and your surgeon will discuss with you the best way forward to guarantee the best possible outcomes of your surgery.

Existing conditions

Before considering cosmetic surgery, you should be aware there are certain pre-existing medical conditions, which may impact your cosmetic surgery journey.

For example, if you have asthma and are scheduled to undergo surgery, you must ensure it is well-controlled before a procedure takes place.

Book a check-up with your doctor prior to booking a procedure and a few weeks before it is scheduled to take place. This ensures your condition is being monitored correctly and you’re well enough for any surgery.

Any heart or respiratory conditions must be reported. If you suffer from more acute asthma, you may need to take steroids or inhaled corticosteroids to manage your symptoms better in advance.

Diabetes is another pre-existing condition that could possibly complicate surgery. If you are diabetic, hyperglycaemia (high blood glucose) or hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose) could slow down wound healing after a procedure.

It’s vital you keep your blood glucose within the boundaries recommended by your doctor. You should also consider other health precautions such as eating plenty of high-quality protein to assist with wound healing and keeping stress to a minimum, as it can elevate glucose levels.

Make sure you let your surgeon know about any other medications that you’re using, even if not regularly. This is important because even minor medication could have some side-effects. For example; some drugs like aspirin can increase the risk of bleeding.

Mental health

While people tend to think of the physical toll cosmetic surgery can take, it’s essential you think about the mental implications too. If you’ve experienced mental health issues in the past, you may be asked to consider psychological screening before any surgery takes place.

Your surgeon has a duty of care to not only protect your physical safety, but also your emotional wellbeing, and to ensure you’re fully equipped to cope with any challenges that may arise.

They should offer you detailed information in your consultation about what a procedure will entail and the realities of the recovery process too to give you reassurance and transparency.

Choosing the one

When it comes to finding the right cosmetic surgeon for you, it’s important to select a clinic that offers as much face-to-face time as possible.

Look for cosmetic surgeons who are members of the representative bodies tasked with maintaining the highest industry standards, such as the General Medical Council, ISAPS, BAAPS or BAPRAS.

Remember, the best cosmetic surgeons are those who are honest and realistic when it comes to managing a patient’s expectations. The most reputable practices will never rush you into making a decision or try to tempt you with the lure of last minute ‘deals’ or discounts.

We would like to offer thanks to Professor Marcos Sforza for sharing his knowledge and background in cosmetic surgery to help with our #CocoBeauty feature. For more information about MyAesthetics search online.

We are all looking for something comforting, relaxing, and chilled out to do this January, whether it’s to stay at home in front of the fire, or to book into a spa for the day, or just have a night watching box sets and eating a bowl of pasta. It can be the simplest of things that help us to relax, things that don’t cost the earth such as a hot bubble bath, a Sunday morning in bed, midnight raiding of the fridge, seeing friends in the pub for a drink after work, or nipping to your mum’s for a home cooked roast, whatever the reason and whatever your preference that’s what January is all about.

#TeamCoco are into all aspects of rejuvenation from our minds to our bodies, we are all about the January rejuvenation process, and the wonderful team at Beauty Flash have given us some top tips on how to rejuvenate our skin throughout these colder months of January and February, which will also help our skin to recover from the excesses of Christmas and New Year parties.

We’d like to thank Lisa de-la Plain, co-founder and professional beauty therapist at Beauty Flash for offering her knowledge about skincare and how to keep it glowing, healthy and fresh this winter.

Keep it dark
Chocolate is everywhere during the festive season; from advent calendars to desserts and selection boxes, it’s hard to avoid it. But don’t worry, you can still enjoy it in the new year, just opt for the dark stuff instead. Dark chocolate is a skin-friendly ingredient, high in antioxidants, which helps protect your skin from free radical damage.

New research has also shown eating a square of dark chocolate a day can relieve emotional stress. It’s the high quantity of antioxidants called flavanols, which are responsible for these positive effects.

Another way to protect your skin from the festive over-indulgence is by selecting an antioxidant mist for a daily spritz.

Healthy fats
While avocado is the perfect addition to a weekend brunch, it’s also great for the skin. Loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins A, D and E, avocadoes are a nutrition firework just waiting to explode!

Many creams and serums include avocado oil in their formulas to enrich the skin with these vital nutrients too, they can repair and soothe dry skin during the night so you wake up to perfectly smooth and supple skin.

Ring the bell
Red and yellow bell peppers are one of the best sources of vitamin C, which boosts collagen production, keeping skin firm and strong.

Look out for Vitamin C serums, which help trigger collagen synthesis, which also increase the skin’s elasticity as well as improving texture and brightening the complexion.

Sunshine in a bottle
The seeds of the sun-worshipping sunflower help to promote glowing, youthful skin. Rich in vitamin E, sunflower seeds reduce the risk of inflammatory skin conditions while encouraging smooth, soft skin.

If, however, eating a cupful of sunflower seeds doesn’t tickle your fancy, look for beauty essentials containing Sunflower oil instead, as they can help prevent the first signs of ageing and correct fine lines and wrinkles.

Green with envy
When it comes to skincare, you should be in a committed relationship with green tea: a superstar ingredient. The antioxidants in green tea eliminate dark circles, treat puffy eyes and have anti-aging properties. Green tea is also rich in catechins, which are antimicrobial and get rid of acne-causing bacteria.

Apply a body oil that boasts green tea for a luxurious way to enjoy the benefits on your skin, as it’s likely to leave the skin intensively hydrated, firmer and more supple.

Power of protein
Soy has numerous health benefits, which include lowering cholesterol and enhancing cognitive function. The health benefits of soy, however, are not just limited to nutrition. Often used in cosmetics, soy protein is known to moisturise and condition the skin, while minimising skin roughness.

Using moisturising treatments with soy protein will do just the trick, as it uses the phytoestrogens from soybeans, to hydrate, exfoliate and reverse the signs of premature ageing.

Plant the seed
Moringa seeds contain a special fatty acid composition that is exceptionally high in oleic acid, making these seeds highly sought after for their beneficial health properties.

If you’re keen to give moringa a try why not consider a lightweight, yet hydrating moisturiser, which has moringa oil to smooth, balance and soothe the skin with its skin rejuvenating and anti-inflammatory properties.

Huge thanks to Lisa de-la Plain for putting together this excellent list of 7 top tips to rejuvenating the skin this January. For more information about Beauty Flash and where you can purchase a number of skincare products that relate to each of the above top tips, search online for BeautyFlash.co.uk.
