In the UK, we’ve enjoyed (or endured) an unprecedented summer, with one record-breaking heat wave coming hot on the heels of another. But all of that’s going to be winding down very shortly, and the clocks will be changing before any of us know it.

This has particular implications for your garden space, especially if you’ve failed to prepare for the change in seasons. But exactly what does the right preparation look like? Let’s take a look.

Tackle the Shrubbery

The growth of your outdoor shrubs will be slowing down, as the daylight hours become fewer, and the temperature declines. This means that, if you treat your shrubs to a pruning, they won’t have much time to grow. You needn’t wait until the dead of winter to take care of this. Get out there with a pair of pruning sheers immediately after flowering. Older branches should be removed, for an overall rate of around one pruned stem for every two unpruned ones. If you notice any parts of the plant that are obviously diseased or dead, then trim them away – and be sure to keep checking back to see whether the problem has spread to other parts of the garden.

Trim Hedges

Keeping your hedgerows neat and orderly is a slightly different task, which requires a slightly different tool. Arm yourself with a cordless hedge trimmer and make a habit of occasionally dealing with any hedges on your property. You can get away with avoiding this during winter – provided that you haven’t neglected the task during autumn.

Deep Clean

Your garden is sure to have accumulated a lot of dust and grime over the year. This goes especially in the shed and other secluded areas where the wind can’t penetrate. Give the shed a thorough clear-out, making sure that cobwebs don’t have a chance to build up. The same goes for fallen leaves on the lawn, and on any garden paths.

Change the soil

Winter is a great time to refresh the soil in your flowerbeds, ahead of any new plants coming in for spring. You can supplement with nutrients and fertilisers, and the contents of your compost bin. You can treat the soil around trees and shrubs to a thorough watering, and keep the soil covered with a layer of shredded leaves in order to prevent it from drying out during the cold weather.

Protect against frost

Some of the plants in your garden will be vulnerable to extremes of cold. Make sure that these are covered up before the temperature goes sub-zero overnight. If they’re in pots or containers, then you can move them into a secluded, warm space – the garage being an ideal candidate.

You picture a destination brimming with little ones enjoying the rides and their moms and dads having a good time. But an amusement park makes an excellent venue for romantic meetings too. Not surprisingly, fun-loving and adventurous Americans revere the idea of dating at a theme park. If you have some qualms about doing it, you may be surprised about how much fun you can have here. Let us explain what makes an amusement park an ideal dating destination.

Enjoy the intimacy on rides

You may think twice about getting close to your partner amid the family crowd. But you can actually have plenty of moments of intimacy here. Enjoy the rides sitting close to each other as the seat arrangement lets you stick together. You may even cuddle and kiss while enjoying the splendid view from the top of the Ferris wheel. There couldn’t be a better way to get cozy because no one can see you.

Have great conversations

You may not have much to talk about if it is your first date. But there’s a lot of scope for great conversations at an exciting venue like this one. You can discuss the rides, talk about food, and chat about anything under the sun. Moreover, you have a day together, so it is a great chance to get to know each other better. A conversation can start in the queue and continue on the rides while enjoying food in a restaurant.

Avoid boredom

A conventional date at a restaurant or a theater can get boring at some point, specifically if your partner is not talkative or you are together for the first time. But things are different when you are at an exciting place with rides and games. The best part is that you have plenty of options in the country. Explore the Amusement Parks in Colorado if you live in the state. You get endless options to experience the thrills, and you will not feel bored for a single moment.

Cover your nerves

Keeping calm on a date with a potential lover is more challenging than you imagine. You feel the adrenaline rushing when you are with them. But you can cover your nerves and avoid showing too much excitement when you are at a theme park. Let your partner believe your nervousness is about getting on an extreme ride instead of holding hands and being close to each other.

No need to dress to impress

An amusement park is a great place for casual dating, and you need not look and feel fancy like in a posh restaurant. You can dress in casual attire and be comfortable in your skin. It means you do not have to worry about spending a fortune on a new outfit or skimming through your wardrobe to create a perfect ensemble for the occasion. You can just be who you are!

Dating at an amusement park is an incredible idea, so you must definitely try it. You will love every moment of thrill and excitement with your special someone.

The coveted Mercury Music prize has always been one of the most prestigious prizes in music, but with tonight’s ceremony looming, let’s take a look at who might take home the illustrious title.

12 incredible artists and acts have been shortlisted for the prize which has previously been awarded to the likes of The xx, Arctic Monkeys, Alt-J, Dave, Wolf Alice, Skepta and last year’s winner, the very wonderful Arlo Parks.

The contenders and their albums are:

Fergus McCreadie – Forest Floor

Gwenno – Tresor

Harry Styles – Harry’s House

Jessie Buckley & Bernard Butler – For All Our Days That Tear The Heart

Joy Crookes – Skin

Kojey Radical – Reason To Smile

Little Simz – Sometimes I Might Be Introvert

Nova Twins – Supernova

Sam Fender – Seventeen Going Under

Self Esteem – Prioritise Pleasure

Wet Leg – Wet Leg

Yard Act – The Overload

All twelve would be worthy winners, but it has been suggested that Self Esteem, Little Simz, the Nova Twins and Wet Leg (the later two groups were shortlisted by our Music Editor in our ‘One’s to watch in 2022’ round-up earlier this year) might just clinch the prize.

However, don’t underestimate the likes of Yard Act or the brilliant Jessie Buckley & Bernard Butler whose album ‘For All Our Days that Tear the Heart review’ has been lauded as a mesmerising and impressive body of work that garnered both critical acclaim and commercial success to take home the prize.

All of the nominees apart from Harry Styles will perform live at the ceremony and the winner will be determined by the judging panel which includes Annie Mac, Anna Calvi, Jami Cullum, Jamz Supernova, Loyle Carner, and Tshepo Mokoena.

We can’t wait to find out who will win!

It’s the end of summer, which means it’s almost fall time(!). Back to school – back to work, back to a solid routine is just around the corner and of course, fall fashion. Even Vogue is onto some great totes. Check out the roundup here!

Almost 8 years ago, I bought my black Balenciaga tote bag and it has been my workhorse ever since. For starters, it fits my laptop and a pair of shoes which is valuable, if you are commuting. It’s narrower than it is wide, which can pose a little bit of an issue when accessing belongings at the bottom of the black bag. Yet, if in a crowded space it’s also great for the safety of your valuables. The thick leather is a tad bit heavy, but it has taken a beating over the years without breaking down.

Looking for a great tote for your life’s adventures? Here are my top selects that can take you from the office to the outdoors, sorted by material:

Leather: You really can’t go wrong with a leather bag. If you are wondering – Yes, it’s worth the investment. Leather bags can stand the test of time, being both fashionable and functional. In fact, over time, the leather can get soft and supple with use.

The Kingly Tote by Smythson comes in super soft, Pavilion leather making it an ideal bag to roll up in your suitcase. The Pavilion leather is lightweight and flexible with a suede underside, not requiring a liner. Like their paper shopping bags, the Kingly is found in their iconic Smythson signature Nile Blue.

Strathberry’s S Cabas has comfortable thick shoulder straps and a zippered top closure. The side pocket helps to keep things organized and it’s adorned with the S logo and gold-tone hardware. Shown in Tan, it is available in 2 other classic colorways including bottle green and black.

The Rebecca Minkoff Edie Maxi Tote will be your next staple in this go-with-everything Black colorway. The quilted leather chevron pattern can bring a subtle texture to any outfit. The antique brass metal chain shoulder straps and magnetic snap-fastening in front add a touch of glam.

Leather and Canvas: The best of both worlds. A tote in both leather and canvas gives you the durability of leather with the semi-casualness of canvas. Don’t forget that wax coated canvas functions well in rain.

The Viator Tote in Gray/Tan by Portland’s Orox Leather can function as both a weekend getaway or a work briefcase. The travel strap along the side of the bag secures it to your trolley suitcase; while the interior sleeve helps keep 13-inch laptops and documents secure.

This roomy Kate Sheridan Waxed Canvas Tote is found on the curated online site, TOAST. It’s made from waxed British cotton canvas. Though the bag is quite generous at 19 inches in width, you can use the press studs at the sides to adjust the shape.

Woven: Looking for something as functional as leather without the price point? These woven bags are a great way to carry a large number of belongings and accent your outfit at the same time.

Keeping traditional hand block stamping alive, this Pink City Prints Scarlet Posy Beach Bag is a fun way to add some pattern into your outfit. The cotton base is structured enough to stand upright, perfect for your next picnic in the park or beach day. It’s fully reversible with the Candy Lolita print inside.

Anything tweed, like this Urban Revivo Tweed Tote Bag in blue checkered pattern, is Fall fashion at its best. Think school-girl cool. This highly structured tote will let you keep all things safe – from paper to take out boxes which can open at a moment’s notice.

Utility: Here are the true workhorses of the group. In the vein of the blue IKEA shopping bags (you know the one!), just more fashionable. These are the bags that you can throw around and still look great at the end of the day.

What do you call a cross between a backpack and a tote? The Cotopaxi Todo Convertible 16L Tote – Cada Día. Carry it by the shoulder straps, or tuck them in when using the tote handles. Its padded 15-inch laptop sleeve and a fleece-lined pocket makes sure valuables are protected. Perfect for those commutes on the tube.

Part of the new F.A.R. (For All Routes) outdoor travel collection from AWAY, this F.A.R. 45L Tote is an organized way to stash all your essentials for work or play. The bag itself is made from lightweight, high-strength polyester and the webbing top cinch closure adjusts to how much you pack. As an added bonus, it meets requirements for most major airlines as carry-on luggage.

Hi! I’m Elena and I’m new here at #TeamCoco. I love writing about all thing’s lifestyle. Think travel, fashion and beauty. Check out what I am up to on my website.

ELENA

The former home of the Metropolitan Police has had a £120 million revamp transforming it into a luxury five-star hotel. Classic glamour is the theme at Great Scotland Yard which is reflected in the design and décor. The iconic site provides a mix of luxury bedrooms, two bars, restaurants, lobby and private meeting room, entertaining and dining rooms complete with 24/7 concierge service.

Jack the Ripper’s crimes were investigated here and the Alice in Wonderland author, Lewis Carroll was one of the suspects. Suspended above the hotel entrance is a huge, deconstructed time piece reading six o’clock, which is apparently the time Carroll was interviewed. Throughout the building there’s historic nods and artifacts cleverly juxtaposed with contemporary, bold artworks by Nicola Green and Cornelia Parker.

Stories of an infamous female crime gang is the focus for the 40 Elephants bar, named after them, it features a huge glass chandelier representing the shattered windows from their numerous smash-and-grab crimes. The glass top tables in the bar showcase some of the swag seized as evidence from the 40 strong all-girl gang. Pull up a chair, order one of their signature cocktails and take in all the tales of crime and corruption.

Sibin is a speakeasy hidden in a corner of the lobby, accessed only by those in the know via a bookshelf. Here you can relax on one of the plump velvet sofas and discover the world of whisky through their curated collection which consists of over one hundred bottles from around the globe. Perfect for a lock-in.

Throughout the summer you can take in the Whitehall skyline and enjoy a cold glass of Veuve Clicquot at the hotel’s Champagne Terrace. This rooftop hideaway is located on the top floor and serves Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut and Rose by the glass or bottle.

When it comes to dining The Yard brings Michelin starred chef Niklas Ekstedt’s signature style of wood fired ‘old Nordic’ cooking to the UK for the very first time. With a focus on farm-to-table expect a menu of signature dishes, alongside an inventive cocktail menu and extensive wine list.

The Parlour is a chic, light and airy all day dining lounge also serving afternoon tea. Savour a sumptuous multi-sensory experience designed to take you on a journey through history, nobility and perfumery with our Bouquet de La Reine afternoon tea in collaboration with royal-warranted perfumery, Floris London.

The hotel boasts 152 rooms and seven different suites. The neutral rooms are modern and compact in comparison to the large marble bathroom with huge walk-in shower. The MET theme continues throughout with police uniforms reflected in the carpet, cupboards disguised as bookshelves and intricately designed room doors. The Townhouse is the hotel’s equivalent of a penthouse suite, with two bedrooms and living and dining areas sprawled across five storeys, plus a private entrance from the street.

Every element of the hotel design has been carefully considered and curated, the building is seeped in so many iconic crime stories you would need to visit again to soak it all in. Just a stone’s throw from the River Thames, Covent Garden and some famous tourist destinations, Great Scotland Yard is the ideal base to relax in luxury. Rooms start from £295 per night.

If you are experiencing depression or anxiety, you’ve probably wondered how to relieve stress using herbs.

You may also wish to try kratom capsules. These capsules are made from herbal leaf from a tree of the Rubiaceae family. See more:

Tulsi is an adaptogenic herb

Tulsi is a potent herb for relieving stress. Tulsi supports healthy levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which regulates the body’s responses to stress. Cortisol releases energy and strength in times of “fight or flight.” This herb supports the body’s response to everyday stressors by balancing the levels of these chemicals. Tulsi is also used in the treatment of stomach and mouth infections, insect bites, and skin disorders.

Green tea

A recent study on the anti-stress effects of green tea found that it helped reduce psychological distress by 20%. The study involved 42,093 Japanese subjects. Of them, 2,774 had psychological stress, but only the green tea drinkers showed lower levels of stress. Clearly, green tea can help improve your mental health, and it is a great way to start your day. Today, approximately 450 million people around the world suffer from some level of stress, and the costs of stress are estimated to be $200 billion and EUR20 billion in the United States.

Peppermint

Peppermint has many benefits, including calming a person’s frayed nerves, promoting mental clarity, and elevating their energy levels. It’s also a powerful aromatherapy oil, so you’ll likely want to incorporate it into your daily regimen to reduce the effects of stress on your mind and body.

Stinging nettle

Stinging nettle is used as a traditional remedy for many health problems, including pain in the muscles and joints, eczema, and gout. Some of its benefits include a reduction in stress and the alleviation of hay fever and arthritis. It can be consumed in several ways, including as a herbal tea, added to soups, or boiled into a smoothie. It can also be used to treat hay fever and insect bites.

Valerian root

Taking Valerian root for stress can be a very effective way to relieve anxiety and stress. This herb helps to calm nerves by reducing signaling in the brain. As a result, you won’t feel as tense or stressed as you usually do. It also has anxiolytic properties, which means that it helps the body communicate with itself. This herb can help you get a good night’s rest.

Lemon balm

There are many benefits to lemon balm. Lemon balm contains antimicrobial properties and is often combined with mint for a soothing effect. Lemon balm is a rich source of antioxidants, which help protect our bodies from free radicals that can cause disease and inflammation. Moreover, lemon balm contains no caffeine, making it an ideal herbal remedy for relieving stress. The antioxidant content of lemon balm decreases as the leaves dry, so it’s important to use fresh lemon balm.

Chamomile

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests that chamomile has properties that reduce anxiety and improve sleep. The study also found that it reduces heart rate and gastrointestinal problems. Moreover, it binds to GABA receptors in the brain and makes them more efficient. This could lead to its use as a natural remedy for stress and anxiety. But how can we use chamomile to alleviate these symptoms?

Low-intensity training targets 60-70 percent of your maximum heart rate, which is an easy pace you can do while still being able to maintain a conversation. This type of workout can include cardio or walking at a slow pace. It is a great choice for people who want to get a good sweat in without affecting their joint health. The benefits of this type of workout are well documented.

However, low-intensity workouts do have their benefits. They are great for people recovering from injury, people with joint problems, and people who are new to exercise. A mix of high and low-intensity exercises can help people achieve their goals and prevent injury. Compared to high-intensity workouts, low-intensity exercises put less stress on the muscles and joints. As such, they help prevent injury and can help increase a person’s overall fitness. Alternatively, people recovering from injury can grow marijuana seeds for beginners at home and extract its natural compound for pain management.

HIIT

HIIT, or high-intensity interval training, is increasingly popular as a way to increase fat burning. HIIT workouts are also known to improve fitness markers such as blood pressure, glucose sensitivity, and overall endurance. High-intensity interval training has the advantage of being highly customizable and less boring. Since it constantly switches movement, resistance, and speed, people are forced to focus their full attention on the exercise routine. This is the primary reason for its increasing popularity.

LIIT

When referring to LIIT as the new high intensity in fitness exercise routines, we mean any physical activity that can be done through varying levels of intensity. A typical LIIT exercise plan would consist of squats followed by press-ups to increase the TUT of the muscle group. Then, the exercise is followed by a recovery period. This type of workout is generally easier on the joints than HIIT exercises.

LIIT has numerous benefits, and can be beneficial for everyone. Older adults, particularly those with poor cardiovascular health, may benefit from the lower-intensity exercise routines. It is also much more sustainable than HIIT and does not put the body at risk for injuries. Furthermore, it is suitable for individuals who are less fit and want to improve their overall health. In addition, it allows the body to recover more quickly.

LISS cardio

While HIIT is the standard for many fitness enthusiasts, LISS is often favored by people with less physical fitness. Both types of workouts can increase a person’s cardiovascular work capacity and burn more calories than HIIT. While HIIT is great for burnout, LISS allows you to continue working out for longer periods without stressing your joints. In addition, LISS cardio is also beneficial for older adults. It can improve bone density and musculoskeletal health, which are important aspects of aging.

HIIT and LISS are complementary workouts. Both are effective at increasing endurance and are beneficial for recovering muscles after a vigorous cardio workout. Beginners can incorporate LISS cardio into their weekly routines. A typical LISS session lasts 45-60 minutes. Intermediate and advanced fitness levels can also incorporate LISS cardio into their routines, although the intensity should be low enough to avoid injuries. The goal is to include LISS cardio in at least two or three days of weekly exercise.

Keeping an indoor garden for herbal medicines requires special care. Herbs require plenty of sunlight, preferably six to eight hours per day, and good drainage. Some herbs are more demanding than others in this regard, and require more water than others, especially Home Grown Cannabis. Here are some tips for watering an indoor herb garden. First, make sure your pots are large enough to hold adequate amounts of water. Secondly, avoid watering your plants excessively. Herbs do not like sitting in water.

Watering

One of the most important considerations when growing an indoor herb garden is water. You should use a herb spray for plants once a week to maintain the health of your herbs. Make sure you follow the directions of the herb spray. If you’re new to growing herbs, you should take note of their recommended water levels. You can also consider using a grow light to ensure your herbs receive enough light. Finally, avoid watering your plants more than twice a week.

Although herbs need minimal water, it’s important to be consistent. Herbs should be watered once a week or once every two weeks. Herb plants in containers tend to dry out more quickly than ground-grown plants, so you must check their soil frequently to avoid overwatering. Another important consideration is the temperature of your indoor space. The plants need at least six hours of sunlight each day. They’re best grown in southern or southwest facing windows.

Harvesting

Keeping your indoor garden in a temperate environment is vital to the success of your plants. Avoid placing them where they will be exposed to cold drafts and never let them touch cold glass or frequently opened doors. You should also allow sufficient air circulation for all your plants. Avoid crowding them to encourage growth, as they will invite pests and diseases to take hold. You should also use fresh herbs as soon as possible after harvesting.

If you wish to use the herbs you grow in your indoor garden, you should carefully know when to harvest them. Some herbs produce flowers or fruit only during the growing season, while others produce spikes and clusters of blossoms. When harvesting spiky flowers, you should cut them above the stem, just before they fully open. For the leaves, harvest the leaves before the flowers form. If you plan to use the leaves fresh, remove them from the plant before they turn wilted.

It is essential to know the needs of your herbs and water accordingly. You can use a small watering can or even drizzle the soil underneath your sink. Water regularly and check on them every few days. Some herbs are better kept on the dry side, such as rosemary, thyme, oregano, sage, mint, basil, and parsley. If you can’t find a window with direct sunlight, you can use an indoor grow light that simulates natural sunlight.

Pruning

Herbal medicine plants are not as tough as other plants, but they do need proper care to keep them in good health. The most important thing to remember when pruning is to do it early and often. Early pruning will help your plants develop their fullest potential while also identifying any potential problems. It is important not to over-prune your plants, however, as over-pruning may lead to smaller, less-productive plants. Most herbs should be pruned eight weeks before the first frost.

For best results, harden your indoor herbs before transplanting them outdoors. Hardening is the process of preparing plants for the change of climate from indoor to outdoor conditions. If you don’t do this, your herbs may not survive the transition. In some cases, it may not survive the sudden change in climate. This is especially true if your indoor plants are still quite young. Hardening your herbs will help them survive the sudden change and thrive in their outdoor environment.

Herbs thrive in a potting mix that is fluffy and light. Garden soil is heavy, and will take forever to dry up after rain. Herbal potting mixes are fluffy and light and can be replenished with water-soluble fertilizer. Several great potting mixes include coco coir, peat moss, vermiculite, and bark. Some people prefer a mix that contains peat moss or bark, which will improve the soil’s microbes.

If you’re anything like me, as soon as September 1st strikes the calendar – the knits come out, the candles get lit, and it’s time to get cosy.

We’ve had a belter of a Summer here in the UK this year, and in most places, the temperature isn’t letting up either.

But enough is enough, and it’s time to get excited for Halloween, Bonfire Night and dare I say, Christmas!

And if you’re looking for TV shows to wrap yourself up with, I’ve got an autumnal spiced jam-packed list for you to sink into.

Let’s toast some marshmallows…

Gilmore Girls

If you missed the late 90s and have yet to come across the absolute joy of Gilmore girls, then this one should be at the top of your list for autumn 2022.

If you have basked in the delights of this show, then you know exactly what I mean when I say it’s the most aesthetically pleasing TV show for this time of year.

The show surrounds the unconventional, fast-talking mother-daughter relationship of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. It’s a small-town big humour show and wholesome in every way.

I’ve binged watched Gilmore Girls so much that it has fast become my comfort show and it’s a binge-watching rule in my house come September 1st!

Great British Bake Off

Roll on 13th September; it’s time to get your pinnies out and oven gloves on!

GBBO has become a staple part of British society as autumn approaches; who doesn’t enjoy getting a cuppa and sitting tensely in anticipation of a few soggy bottoms?

This is the perfect combination of cooking competition and quintessential Britishness.

Personally, it gets me inspired to start my Christmas baking early and often makes me feel better about my dismal attempts at “cooking”!

Stranger Things

I know, I know, Demi, you’re late – season 4 has been out over a month now…

Well, I am yet to finish it, and for good reason. It’s perfect build-up-to-Halloween viewing!

If you haven’t started it yet, Stranger Things is 80s nostalgia on steroids mixed with the perfect combination of spooks and thrills. The first two seasons aren’t all that scary, but as you progress to seasons three and four, I’d buckle up because it gets…let’s just say Shaggy and Scooby would be quacking in their boots.

Creators, The Duffer Brothers, are huge fans of 80s horror, and you can see their inspiration infused in every detail of this show.

It’s a wild ride but one you’ll enjoy every second of.

More Autumnal Viewing

If those don’t tickle your fancy, here are some other TV shows and films that make me feel all warm inside (if not a little spooked in places!):

  • When Harry met Sally
  • Sabrina The Teenage Witch
  • Vampire Diaries
  • Twin Peaks
  • Practical Magic
  • Sweet Home Alabama
  • St Elmo’s Fire
  • Matilda
  • Sleepy Hollow
  • You’ve Got Mail
  • Casper

Enjoy cosying on down to these, and I’ll be sure to compile a heart-beat-skipping list just in time for Halloween!
