Here at Team Coco, we adore embracing the more spiritual side of life, challenging our preconceptions and expanding our understanding. We recently sat down with Star Brodie, founder of The Woman Whole, an online boutique that specialises in beautiful crystal yoni eggs.

What’s a Yoni Egg, you ask? Well, read on as we were not ashamed to ask that important question…

* Star would like to note that throughout this interview the term “woman” is used as an inclusive and intersectional term, representing individuals who were born, assigned, and/or identify as a woman and whose experiences represent various and unique cultural backgrounds, social systems, and challenges.*

HOC: Hi Star! Let’s start with the trickier one, what’s your elevator pitch for your business?

Star: Thank you, I’m so happy to be doing this interview! My name is Star Brodie, and I am the owner of The Woman Whole, an online boutique that specializes in luxurious crystal yoni eggs. Through this platform, I invite women who wish to know themselves on a more intimate level to dive deeper into self and to connect with their inner goddess by providing tools and resources that encourage self-love and discovery. Receiving a package from The Woman Whole is an enchanting experience, and people are raving about the love and attention that shines through. Visit www.yoniegg.life/shop and find your special treasure today!

HOC: Can you tell us about your personal background and your journey to running your business?

Star: I grew up in a home that embraced magic, and crystals have always been a part of my environment. When I was eight years old, I received my spiritual initiation and began this ever-evolving journey that has led me to where I am today. I have always been fascinated with the concept of the cosmic egg and the symbology of the egg in general. In 2011 I dreamt of a cosmic bird releasing millions of golden eggs onto the earth as she flew through space. A year later, an elder who I hold in high esteem shared her vision that confirmed my dream of these cosmic eggs which were coming to earth to restore balance and to bring healing. It was at this time that I began to develop a deeper relationship with the divine feminine, with myself, and with the crystal yoni eggs. This energy grew into a magnetic pull, and I felt the universe calling on me to help birth these eggs into the world.

I am also proud to have integrated this passion within the academic world. I graduated from Eastern Oregon University (Magna Cum Laude) with a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies with Minors in Anthropology/Sociology and Psychology. My culminating essay and final works, which received high honors, was directly connected to the work that I do and focused on the disestablishment of menstrual shame, the importance of female sexual sovereignty, and examined the yoni egg practice from within my fields of expertise. Analyzing these concepts from an academic point of view establishes a greater understanding of their significance and validates the impact that they have on the world around us.

HOC: Sorry to ask the obvious, but what is a Yoni Egg?

Star: Absolutely, yoni eggs definitely inspire intrigue! The word yoni is a Sanskrit term that refers to the macrocosm of divine feminine energy as well as the microcosmic lifeforce reflected in the womb, vagina, and vulva. A yoni egg is a sacred instrument that is carved from a healing crystal into the shape of a small egg.

The egg is a symbol of goddess energy, transformation, rebirth, purity, creation, fertility, and is an expression of the great cosmic egg that exists in creation stories worldwide. The yoni egg is used internally through various meditations and exercises to infuse, strengthen, and activate the yoni with this powerful energy. The specific crystal yoni eggs that I provide and recommend are Nephrite Jade for blessings and prosperity, Rose Quartz to cultivate unconditional love, Clear Quartz to stimulate healing and amplify energy, and Black Obsidian for protection and clearing negativity.

HOC: Thanks for that compelling introduction – what are the benefits of using a Yoni Egg?

Star: The yoni egg practice provides a beautiful marriage of physical and spiritual benefits that are unique to the experience of the individual. This transformational practice is held sacred in its power to activate vaginal reflexology points, engage the pelvic floor, increase sensitivity, strength, and body awareness, awaken orgasmic energy (which is life force energy and not necessarily sexual), inspire expressions of self-love, and cultivate a deep connection with the divine feminine on both a personal and universal level.

I have also observed that through this practice, women have come together and created relationships, alliances, and entire communities that are supportive of one another in growth and development, which is an integral aspect of the health and success of not only the female population but the entire human population as well. This practice also invites the individual on a journey of empowerment through self-discovery, which leads to a stronger sense of self and has a direct impact on the choices that are made. The benefits received through the yoni egg practice have the power to extend beyond the individual and to impact our environment and relations in a positive way.

HOC: Where are you based and how does your environment influence your work?

Star: I am based outside of a small village on the Oregon Coast. I selected this place to live because I consider it to be one of the most beautiful and healing places on the planet. This environment inspires and nourishes me every day. I feel very blessed to live so close to nature. Even if I am not in my office working, the time that I spend at the beach, in the forest, or by the creek side is directly connected to the love and energy that I pour into every single package that I prepare.

One of my favorite things to do is to collect agates along the coastline and include them as gifts with each order. This activity is a meditation for me. For each agate that I pick up, I like to say a little prayer or affirmation for the individual who will receive it. Incorporating practices such as this is incredibly important to me as it facilitates a symbiotic relationship of mutual healing.

HOC: If you weren’t doing what you do now, what other paths could you have taken?

Star: I suppose the possibilities are endless! I have always preferred to be self-employed, so I would imagine that whatever path I found myself on I would find a way to make that work. Before the creation of The Woman Whole, I was considering a masters program in Women’s Spirituality. I knew that this was the field that I wanted to work in, and I love learning. However, the program I was interested in ended and other options became available to me. Art is another passion of mine and was actually my original major in college. Although I chose not to go down the path of a professional artist, I really value being able to incorporate artistic elements into the work that I do now through various visual outlets such as image and video production. It is hard to predict exactly how my life would have differed if I had not chosen this path. But I am confident that whatever unfolds is meant to be!

HOC: We absolutely love that affirmation! What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Star: My work is what motivates me. By this, I refer to both my business and my own spiritual/personal work, which are intimately intertwined. I am naturally an early riser and a morning person… as long as I don’t have to be anywhere. The dawn is a very magical time, and I like to greet it by taking an hour or two to journal, read, and meditate outdoors.

Working from home allows me the time to take care of myself first before taking on the rest of my day, and I am very thankful for that. Spending quality time with my amazing and magical daughter is also a primary motivation and is the main reason I choose to work from home.

I am also very driven to provide outstanding customer service, and I am passionate about what I do, so there are also mornings where I am answering emails and preparing packages before I can rub the sleep out of my eyes. Of course, I can’t always do that and finding a balance between work and personal time does take a conscious effort.

HOC: What personal achievement of yours means the most to you and why?

Star: The personal achievement that means the most to me is not a specific event, but rather an ability that I have cultivated to alchemize negative into positive. There have been many times throughout my life when I have been underestimated, told that I wouldn’t succeed, or had to start all over again. I have learned to take this negativity, extract the energy from it, and inject that energy into the creation of something positive.

I owe many of my accomplishments in life to adopting this mentality. I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do this interview if I had not believed in myself and my inner strength. Perception is the key that gives you the power to transform the word “challenge” from a hardship that is inflicted upon you into a dare to become your most powerful self.

HOC: Entrepreneurial souls are often burning the candles at both ends, what tips do you have for our readers when they are feeling emotionally exhausted?

Star: This is such an important question. It is essential for anyone who is perpetually working to take care of themselves. You won’t have anything to give to others if you are running on empty, and your energy will be depleted if you try.

As entrepreneurs, we are always fighting this battle. Emotional exhaustion happens… and I think it’s important not to feel bad about yourself for experiencing it. What matters is being able to recognize when you need to unplug and relax. Get into nature if you can, spending just a few minutes in the elements can help reboot your brain and give you a whole new perspective.

I also think that it is helpful to set boundaries with yourself. It’s tempting for self-driven people to overwork themselves. But try to set specific times and days that are dedicated to your own personal needs and spending time with the people you love. If you are a person who menstruates, try to respect the first three days of your cycle by not taking on too much and practice as much self-care as possible.

The last bit of advice I’d like to share is to take advantage of downtime! If business is slow for a day or two, take it as a hard-earned vacation. Enjoy that time. Realize that there will always be an ebb and flow, and learn to work in harmony with that natural rhythm.

HOC: What wonderful advice – thanks Star! What’s your ambition for the rest of 2019?

Star: Well, so far this year has been amazing. I am incredibly honored that House of Coco has selected The Woman Whole for this interview. I have also recently been featured in Tatler Magazine, and will also be in upcoming issues of Vanity Fair as well as London Life Magazines. You can also find my shop featured in Stilorama Luxury Fashion Marketplace.

This has all taken me by surprise. I tend to stay below the radar, I don’t invest in social media too much or have a large following. I focus on my own business and work hard to provide a unique and magical experience for each of my customers, to whom I am forever grateful for. I receive so many beautiful reviews which fills my heart and makes all the hard work completely worth it.

For the rest of 2019, I am looking forward to upgrading and expanding both the products and service I provide. I plan on producing more video content and am considering some possible collaborations as well. I am always looking for ways to improve customer experience and am excited to continue to add even more value to each purchase!

This time of year, a combination of cold weather, central heating and lack of vitamin D can leave our skin dull and a bit lack lustre. My winter skin was desperately in need of a boost, so I booked into LondonCryo for their signature Cryofacial.

A Cryofacial uses cold temperatures to rejuvenate the face. The increase in oxygen supply boosts collagen production, improving the circulation and elasticity of the skin. Muscles retract with the cold and it has a tightening effect on the skin leaving your face looking fresher and younger. Jennifer Aniston is a big fan and credits her youthful glow at 50 down to regular treatments.

I have sensitive, breakout prone skin so I’m always cautious when it comes to trying something new, but I’d heard so many positive things about cryotherapy and its benefits, I wanted to give it a go. The Cryofacial is good for lots of skin complaints like acne and rosacea as the cold reduces the inflammation in the face.

Cryotheraphy is quickly working its way into wellbeing routines due to the mental and physical benefits it offers. LondonCryo is run by girl boss, Maria Ensabella. She is on a mission to highlight the positive impact of cryotherapy and how it can help you feel better and look better. The LondonCryo ethos is all around being your best self by proactively looking after your body and mind. The treatments they provide target sports recovery, overall wellness and anti-ageing skin treatments like the Cryofacial.

The treatment room has a spa like feel about it with low level lighting and aromatherapy scents. My therapist instantly puts me at ease by explaining what all the hi-tech equipment is and talking me through the process step by step, assuring me I won’t get frostbite. My facial is around 20 minutes and begins with cleansing and toning my skin before having a hydrating serum applied to my face. I brace myself for the cold as a metal wand with a flat, round tip is rubbed across the surface of my face, each stroke is followed with my therapist gently massaging the skin to aid lymphatic drainage. This wand cools down the skin rapidly to about minus 10 degrees and stays on each area of the skin for only a few seconds. It feels a bit like an ice cube gliding over your face, it’s not at all uncomfortable, in fact I found it quite relaxing. Halfway through the treatment the therapist passes me a mirror so I can compare the skin she has treated. The pores have minimised, my complexion is brighter and I look fresher. I can see a visible difference compared to the untreated skin. At the end of the facial another layer of serum is applied to my face and I’m all done. My therapist brings me a glass of water and turns up the lights so I can get a better look at the results. The redness from my rosacea has quietened down and my skin looks smoother, but the best bit is the results continue across the week. My make-up goes on better, a breakout I had pre-treatment fades and my other half tells me I’m glowing.

The cryotherapy facial definitely boosted my tired, winter skin and the fact it only takes 20 minutes and is non-evasive means it’s a great treatment if you’ve a big event or special occasion coming up. The Cryofacial costs £160, to book an appointment contact www.londoncryo.com or 0203 371 8900.

Explore the wonders of adventuring in St Lucia, nicknamed the “Helen of the West Indies,” renowned for its lush rainforests, stunning peaks, and captivating history of changing hands between the English and French. Discover world-class diving sites and immerse yourself in its natural beauty. In this article, we examine the accessible adventures on offer that will allow you to soak in the alluring beauty of the island without over-inducing an excess of adrenaline.

Adventuring in St Lucia

Bamboo rafting

One of the newest experiences on offer in St Lucia is bamboo rafting on the Roseau River. It is the longest and largest river on the island. The tranquil beauty of the river in the Anse-la-Raye Quarter is in distinct contrast to the busier resort-laden parts of northern St Lucia. The enterprise has been started by the ex-tourism minister. What is particularly impressive is not only is the raft made entirely of bamboo, but your guide sets sail only with a bamboo pole. It is an entirely non-motorised experience down to the beachfront for a carbon-neutral experience. Your local guide will serenade you with facts on the local flora, fauna and topography. Mid-journey you will break at a rustic shack where you can sample local coconuts and cocktails from a local entrepreneur. There are multiple add-ons such as a rum distillery tour (more on that later) and a segway tour.

Rainforest hike

There are numerous stunning hiking trails throughout St Lucia. One I would recommend is The En Bas Saut Falls Trail. Ideally, you’ll need a 4×4 to drive to the start of the trail near Soufrière often through rugged cobblestone roads (though we did spot one brave soul trekking up jungle slopes to the hike). The trek through the majestic rainforest takes anywhere between 1.5-2.5 hours to complete. It is a sub-4 km hike which involves uneven steps down to the waterfall and then steps back up. You’ll visit a 7-8 metre waterfall and the best part is you can swim up close for a cooling escape from the tropical heat. There will be offers of guided tours as you travel closer to the starting point of the trail. However, note that this is not essential given the route is an easily identifiable trail. The trickier part would be finding the starting point with your hire car. The best way to get there is to book a guided tour with reputable boutique hotels such as the nearby Têt Rouge Resort. The excursions are reasonably priced, and the options are varied.

Adventuring in St Lucia

Catamaran cruise

A catamaran tour is the best way to appreciate the overall magnificence of the island. Têt Rouge offers a 40 ft catamaran for hire privately. You can enjoy a sunset cruise, savour a barbecue on board, swim or snorkel in the refreshing waters or simply get taken to remote, pristine beaches. You get arguably the best angle at spotting the iconic twin peaks of Gros Piton and Petit Piton. You can peek into the most exclusive resorts on the island such as Jade Mountain Resort, or if you just want to unwind the Caribbean way, recline your back onto the catamaran trampoline, listen to the sea breeze and stare into the cloudless blue sky with a rum punch in your hands.

Cacoa Sainte Lucie

If you want an elevated dining experience and still have views of the verdant tropical rainforest, make sure you head to Cacoa Sainte Lucie. Situated in Belvedere Canaries, the site is at the perfect vantage point to soak up the surrounding greenery and the soothing ocean scenery. As they are a small-batch premium chocolate maker, the menu in their restaurant unsurprisingly contains countless cocoa. One of their signature dishes is the cocoa-crusted grilled Mahi served with a sweet chilli creole sauce. You might wonder: why add cocoa to dishes? Raw cacao is a superfood containing high doses of minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. Their chocolate trio dessert is not to be missed. They have an interactive chocolate-making workshop as well as a gift shop selling everything from gourmet chocolate truffles to hot chocolate powder (and my personal choice: a decadent chocolate lamington).

Rum distillery tour

Next to the bamboo rafting experience, you can also partake in a distillery tour at St Lucia Distillers. The tour has the perfect blend of video presentations, a brief rum-making tutorial, a kitsch carnival exhibition and an unbelievably generous rum-tasting finale. From April to November, when the sugarcane is harvested, guests can observe the harvesting at the cane fields which is a 5-minute walk from the distillery. The tour is about how they’ve used what’s abundant in nature in St Lucia to turn the product into one of the most popular spirits in the world. Their knowledgeable guides will take you around their working distillery and explain the concept in layman’s terms.

Rum is intimately linked to the carnival spirit and they have a carnival room displaying a dazzling array of fanciful costumes. The exhibition also goes in-depth about the origins and traditional practices that accompany carnivals in St Lucia. The finale of the tour is truly breathtaking. You get to sample their whole range of rums, rum-based creams and liqueurs. This is from the entry-level range to their most premium range, and it is all self-service and free pouring. This is a must for all rum aficionados. Afterwards, you should take a trip to their gift shop where their spirits are offered at factory prices.

Experience St. Lucia’s most iconic nature trails designed by your very own hiking butler! Discover more about these exclusive trails in our article on House of Coco.

There are roughly 29 flights per week flying from London to St Lucia. The average flight time is only 8 hours and 55 minutes. The lowest average temperature is in January at a barmy 26°C. March is the sunniest time of year, with over ten hours of sunlight per day. With these wonderful weather conditions and a diverse offering for tourists, make sure you consider St Lucia for your Caribbean holiday.

A trip to Athens is perfect for those who enjoy artisan shops, independent restaurants and boutique hotels. It is a multi-faceted city where you don’t have to plan your trip but still have plenty to do if you are based in downtown Athens.

They have a dazzling array of shopping experiences from concept stores to historic shops. One place that should be high on your list of places to visit is The Naxos Apothecary. It is the oldest herbal pharmacy in Athens.

The exposed labs will immediately attract your attention. You can observe the preparation of herbal remedies, face creams and fragrances. The Korres products you are likely to find in your home countries. However, the tailor-made face creams and bath products of The Naxos Apothecary product collection are worth purchasing. They feature a set of five fragrances inspired and named after some of the most breathtaking villages of Naxos.

Next door to the apothecary is the newly opened xenodocheio Milos boutique hotel. It is the perfect base for you to explore the city, being a short walk away from Syntagma Square. It’s the Athens equivalent of Trafalgar Square. It is the first luxury hotel from the world-renowned restaurant group, estiatorio Milos. They’ve offered elevated Greek cuisine specialising in seafood since 1979 when it was founded in Montreal.

The hotel oozes effortless elegance from the moment you step out of your car in front of the hotel. It is a 19th-century neo-classical building that was designated a landmark building by the Ministry of Culture in 1979. It is situated opposite the Old Parliament House which is now the National History Museum.

The rooms have a serene minimalist style and soothing wooden panelling that are reminiscent of Nobu Hotels. Even though they have 43 rooms only. It’s sub-divided into nine categories from your entry-level classic room to the neoclassical apartment, that is the Milos signature suite. Most of the rooms enjoy mesmerising views of the Old Parliament House or Lycabettus Hill. The summit of the latter is the highest point in central Athens.

They make exceptional use of the window area by creating a cushioned nook area, which is perfect for reading a book whilst admiring the flow of Athenians in the downtown area.

Only the very best amenities will do at xenodocheio Milos. You’ll find Simmons luxury mattresses, a Nespresso coffee machine, and an Alessi Kettle Machine. You won’t be surprised to find the toiletries are made exclusively for the hotel by The Naxos Apothecary next door. They even provide dental kits which is a rarity at most 5-star hotels.

Even though the mini-bar isn’t complimentary, it is well worth trying out the handpicked treats on display. They include Popy’s gourmet popcorn, luxury Leonidas milk chocolate and a dry “Enotria” red from the Douloufakis Winery.

You can’t talk of their hotel without mentioning their outstanding restaurant. They have branches throughout the world including London, New York and Miami. The clean design of the restaurant works perfectly with the rest of the hotel. It was designed by renowned architects, Divercity Architects.

Prominent in the design is an artist’s interpretation of a fisherman’s net on the ceiling. That is a gentle clue to the main focus of their restaurant: supremely fresh seafood. The menu includes signature dishes such as whole fish baked in sea salt and lobster from Nova Scotia either grilled or served with pasta Athenian style.

Even the breakfast buffet is filled with Greek delights. You are served with fresh juice and a break basket including Koulouri, the iconic Greek sesame bread ring. The buffet station has the signature spanakopita. The eggs of your choice cooked to order are served with local tomatoes, cheese and a smattering of olives.

Service is attentive yet discreet and you never have to wait long for any dishes to arrive. They truly embody the Greek philosophy of ‘philoxenia’, which means an act of hospitableness and welcome. Note the in-room dining is 24 hrs and carried out by the kitchen team from estiatorio Milos.

They do offer an ELEMIS SPA Suite, which is all about ‘evexia’, the Greek word for well-being. Their deeply relaxing aromatherapy massage will unwind any modern-day stresses within 60 minutes. They use Mediterranean essential oils including extracts of bitter orange, cardamon and ginger.

The massage begins with inhalation exercises and ends with a mist of Aloe Vera sprayed over the body. I would strongly recommend booking in advance as they only have one SPA suite.

Alternative dining options in the area are in abundance. Most are independently run restaurants that offer a wide variety of cuisines.
Asian food is particularly well-represented in the area.

You can enjoy comforting ramen at So so so! on Apollonos Street and in fact, most of the neighbouring restaurants offer Asian cuisine. If you want high-quality yet casual-dining sushi, there is Akira Japanese restaurant. If you fancy some aromatic Vietnamese food, there is Hanoi Vietnamese restaurant. And finally, baos are all the rage in Athens. You can enjoy very affordable baos at Thess Bao with unusual combinations like their mushroom ‘gyros’ which is served with cannabis oil.

Athens is a truly vibrant city bursting with individuality. Make sure you check out my recommendations when you are next in Greece.

There are many hotels around the world running wellness retreats, but not necessarily here in the UK. Rockliffe Hall in County Durham offers personalised wellness retreats.

Rockliffe Hall is about to shake things up in the hospitality industry with bespoke wellness retreats. They will include exercise, meditation, relaxation, massage treatments, and outdoor activities alongside food and drink.

Our writer, Rachel McAlley recently visited Rockliffe Hall where she trialled some of the hotel’s future wellness activities.

Upon check-in I was offered healthy green drinks in Nu Sana, a restaurant to ‘Nourish Your Soul’. Nu Sana is taken from blending the words Nutritious and Sana, from the Latin meaning Healthy, and has resulted in Nu Sana, a hotel restaurant for healthy dining.

From Nu Sana I enjoyed an hour-long sound bath workshop with The Gong Whisperer in the hotel’s external Glass House. The Glass House is located just a short walk from the main hotel and through the very well-manicured gardens. A giant glass building that is used for events, weddings, and my sound bathing experience.

The Glasshouse Rockliffe Hall

I had never been to a sound bath session before, so this was all new to me. Jill, The Gong Whisperer explained all about sound and how it affects our mood and our mind. She introduced me to complete calmness and tranquillity.

I laid on a yoga mat with cushions under my head and a blanket over my body. Jill gently talked until I was utterly relaxed, and then with my eye mask on I went into a deep relaxed state. She then played gongs, drums, and percussion instruments until all I could hear was the sound of rain, wind, and calming sounds all around.

After leaving the Glass House it was lunch back at Nu Sana. I enjoyed a hearty, and healthy Buddha Bowl. The bowl was filled with chicken tikka, quinoa, cucumber, red onion, mint, and yoghurt dressing. It was a delicious lunch, and I may have even had a side of sweet potato fries as a naughty treat!

In Hong Kong, a Buddha brings calmness, serenity and harmony with it, so a Buddha Bowl is the perfect food for a wellness retreat.

The Walled Garden Rockliffe Hall

Post lunch I had a visit to Rockliffe Hall Walled Garden. The Walled Garden Workshop was hosted by Phil Mennel, Estates and Gardens Manager at Rockliffe. Phil showed me around the herbs, vegetables and fruit that he was growing in the walled garden.

It was a great opportunity to take in the fresh air and fresh produce. Phil explained the plot to plate ethos that the hotel has, and named a few of the ingredients that I would be eating that evening in the hotel’s Orangery, 3 AA Rosette restaurant.

It was a great insight to the amount of time and energy that goes into maintaining such fabulous grounds, which in turn produces wonderful fresh vegetables. I may even have been offered a selection of fresh produce t take away the following day!

The Spa At Rockliffe Hall

Mid-late afternoon was time to enjoy the spa facilities at Rockliffe Hall, and what better place to be than relaxed at the side of the pool. The spa offers both hot and cold experiences including hot Roman sauna, hydropool, outdoor drench shower, foot spa, and outdoor hot tub.

It also includes a tepidarium, salt steam, tropicarium, infrared room, igloo, gym and of course swimming pool. With so much to do, I got changed into my swimming costume and spent a couple of hours trying out every room and every pool in the spa.

Once I left the spa, I took myself to reception to collect my luggage and pick up my room key. There are a number of options for accommodation at Rockliffe Hall, the Old Hall Rooms and Suites, or the New Hall Rooms and Suites, which is where I stayed. Equally, if you’re looking for self-catering there are self-catering apartments, and houses.

My New Hall Room was located on the ground floor with my own personal outside area looking onto the golf course.

The Orangery At Rockliffe Hall

Dinner was served in the Orangery, where Paul Nicholson the Head Chef had produced a delicious 6-course Taster Menu. Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese Scone with Chilled Estate Tomato Broth and Basil, followed by Risotto of Mushroom, Estate Garden Herbs, and 36-Month Aged Parmesan.

The tomato broth was to die for, it was simply perfect. Then I had Pork Belly, served with Estate Beetroot, Onion, and Nasturtium, which was followed by Atlantic Cod, Mussel, Estate Carrot and Fennel. The standout flavour here was the beetroot with the pork belly, it was beautifully fresh and served like a liquorice wheel!

The final 2-courses were both desserts, and what a treat they were. Firstly, Granny Smith Apple with Yoghurt, Estate Lemon Verbena, and Feuilletine, and finally 64% Valrhona Manjari served alongside Estate Mint, Cocoa Nib, and Crème Fraiche. From the light lemon and apple dessert to the decadent chocolate one, the entire meal was a taste sensation.

The Spa Garden At Rockliffe Hall

After a great night’s sleep, it was time for sunrise yoga in the spa’s private Spa Garden, overlooking the infinity pool and golf course. This was an outdoor yoga session, in the cool autumn air, with the birds, and the early morning dew. An enjoyable and relaxing 1-hour session with a private yoga teacher.

Once yoga ended it was time for breakfast, which was taken in the private adjoining room within the Orangery. A beautiful room with an old church feeling and plenty of character. An excellent menu to choose from, I oped for Scrambled Eggs with Smoked Salmon.

The morning was then spent enjoying a 60-minute NEOM Candle Massage Treatment in one of the spa’s upstairs treatment rooms. I chose my favourite scent from a collection of three specific candles that are poured over the body. This made me want to set up my own DIY spa retreat at home.

The wax is unique in that it is made for the body and instantly turns to oil once massaged in. A truly wonderful massage that I can safely say I’ve never experienced before visiting Rockliffe Hall.

Once the massage had ended, I was taken across to the Relaxation Room for a personal 15-minute Meditation with the Treatments Manager, Sarah Usher. Sarah showed me to one of the lounger beds in the relaxation room, where I placed a thick blanket over myself and closed my eyes. Sarah’s meditation took me on a journey to pure relaxation, where I could have easily fallen asleep.

It was them time to check-out of Rockliffe Hall and enjoy a takeaway picnic that the Orangery team had put together for my onward journey.

If you are interested in any or all aspects of my visit to Rockliffe Hall please contact the team directly and they will advise on availability and pricing. Alternatively check out the Rockliffe Hall Instagram for up-to-date news.

I was the only girl in my class at school that didn’t have a pony on their Christmas list. I’ve a slight fear of horses, actually, scrap that, I’m terrified of them. They are big, powerful and can be unpredictable, which is why I’ve never been one for horse riding. I’ve obviously passed this non-horsey love on to my daughter, Eden, she feels the same, so when we both signed up for equine therapy on a recent trip to California a few family members laughed. “You two, on a horse, I just can’t see it.” sniggered my husband. That only spurred us on more and on a balmy early Monday morning in Monterey County we pulled up at The Equine Healing Collaborative, a non-profit organisation that are squashing the stigma associated with therapy by making it accessible for their clients. Founder and Executive Director, Jen Fenton and her team of 43 clinicians and 37 horses are on a mission to provide a path to recovery, self-discovery, and personal growth through the use of equine assisted psychotherapy.

Equine assisted psychotherapy involves counselling with a mental health professional and time riding or caring for a horse. The horse is considered a co-therapist. Forming a relationship with an animal that weighs 1,000 pounds or more may be intimidating, but the required vulnerability and trust is part of the process.

Equine therapy isn’t new, it’s been around for a while but with us in the midst of a global mental health crisis it’s booming, Jen tells me, “Post Covid there’s been a huge uptake in treatment for anxiety and depressive related disorders, especially in young people.”

As soon as I met Jen I felt relaxed and at ease. She has best friend vibes, easy to talk to, the kind of woman you want to share a glass of wine with and download all your secrets to. A trained mental health therapist and previously a hostage negotiator, she’s got an aura that’s calming and reassuring. Originally set up in 2015, she coupled her job as a therapist with her love of horses and took therapy from the couch to the barn. Jen tells me, “I’ve seen people get more out of one session with the horse than half a dozen on the couch. Taking people out of a clinical environment helps them relax and they let their guard down which allows them to get more out of it.”

The team at The Equine Healing Collaborative, work with their clients on the same issues and challenges you might go see a regular therapist for such as past trauma, relationships, anxiety, or depression. The horse acts as a co-therapist, helping to relax clients, build trust and connection. Jen explains, “Horses are herd animals, their survival is tied to their ability to get along with the rest of the herd so they easily connect with humans.”

Every horse has its own story, all of them are rescues and the clinicians work with each one before they start working with clients, assessing how they respond to situations and stress. The horses are profiled then paired with the client based on the support they require. None of the horses are ridden, instead the therapist might run a couple of exercises that are focused on supporting the client.

When we visited, we got to meet Hermoso, a big chestnut friendly stallion. We worked with Jen and Hermoso on a couple of exercises exploring vulnerability and confidence. Jen tells me “The horses shine a light on how we are feeling, unearthing anything we might be trying to avoid. ”As part of my session with Hermoso I had to close my eyes and let the horse come to me. I immediately felt vulnerable and intimidated, Jen coached me from the side, asking me how I felt while guiding me. Following this Jen then asked me to draw a circle in the sand and think about something or someone I loved and would do anything to protect. I had to then imagine this person or thing was in the circle with me and not let Hermoso into the circle. Hermoso pushed me and my boundaries. It wasn’t easy keeping this huge horse out of my circle and I had to stand strong and confident while inside I was having a wobble. Jen told me Hermoso could pick up on how I was feeling so I had to push through it and show him I was in charge. I eventually kept him out the circle and he got the message he wasn’t getting in. Afterwards I was chatting to Jen and she said, “I think you might be operating in your comfort zone, you need to take more risks Anji.” Based on 45 minutes with the horse, my behaviours and interactions, Jen managed to pick up on this and she was right, I have been playing it safe with a few things. I left thinking about what she had said and how I might make some changes. Eden also come away with some food for thought, telling me, “I came here unconvinced but with an open mind and having spent some time with Jen and Hermoso, I can see how it would benefit not just your mental health but your mindset. It’s made me think more about self-belief and the fact that I can do anything.”

The organisations operating funds are generated by billing insurance companies and through patients paying a sliding scale of fees. Though Jen points out that the process and red tape private insurers have makes it hard for people to get mental health support. 86% of their clients are from low socio-economic backgrounds so they don’t always get reimbursed for everyone which is why they rely heavily on fundraising. She tells me “It’s frustrating, mental health support should be accessible to everyone, but the truth is if you don’t have the finances it is harder which is why we often waiver fees.” She’s also training other clinicians in equine assisted therapy as it’s “expensive and exclusive” and her goal is to bring equine therapy to as many people as possible. I have no doubt she will. We leave Jen and Hermoso with a spring in our step and a sense of achievement.

In the bustling world of business, the importance of a clean and organized office space often goes beyond its aesthetic appeal. While a tidy workspace undoubtedly makes a positive impression, its impact on the health and well-being of employees is a hidden gem that deserves attention. From increased productivity to reduced stress levels, the benefits of maintaining a clean office extend far beyond surface appearances.

1. Promoting Physical Health

A clean office isn’t just visually pleasing – it’s also crucial for maintaining physical health. Dust, allergens, and germs tend to accumulate in neglected spaces, which can lead to respiratory issues and allergies among employees. Regular cleaning and sanitization help minimize the presence of these potential health hazards, creating an environment conducive to well-being.

2. Enhancing Mental Clarity

Cluttered workspaces often lead to cluttered minds. A clean office promotes mental clarity by reducing distractions and creating an atmosphere of focus. When employees are surrounded by an organized environment, they can concentrate better, make thoughtful decisions, and tackle tasks more efficiently.

3. Boosting Productivity

A clutter-free desk and an orderly office layout directly impact productivity. Employees spend less time searching for misplaced items and more time accomplishing tasks when everything is in its rightful place. The act of cleaning and organizing can also serve as a mental reset, reinvigorating individuals to approach their work with renewed energy.

4. Reducing Stress Levels

An unkempt workspace can contribute to stress and anxiety. When piles of papers, tangled cords, and cluttered surfaces become the norm, it’s easy for employees to feel overwhelmed. A clean office offers a sense of control and calm, helping to alleviate stress and create a more pleasant work environment.

5. Fostering a Positive Workplace Culture

The state of an office reflects the company’s values and priorities. A commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy workspace sends a message to employees that their well-being matters. This can lead to increased job satisfaction, a sense of pride in the workplace, and a stronger sense of community among team members.

6. Encouraging Hygiene Practices

A clean office sets the standard for hygiene. When the environment is well-maintained, employees are more likely to follow suit with their personal hygiene routines. Regular cleaning routines can also remind everyone to wash hands, sanitize surfaces, and maintain proper cleanliness, which is particularly important in shared spaces.

In conclusion, the benefits of a clean office stretch beyond the surface. Beyond just appearances, a well-maintained workspace positively impacts physical health, mental clarity, productivity, stress levels, workplace culture, and hygiene practices. It’s a holistic investment in the well-being of employees that leads to a more positive, productive, and harmonious work environment.

So, the next time you’re pondering the importance of keeping your office tidy, remember that you’re not just creating an attractive setting – you’re cultivating a space that nourishes the health and wellness of your entire team. Contracting a commercial cleaner to take care of this for you, can save you time and money in the long-run.
