Located in the heart of Spitalfields, The Gun London is a ‘classic’ London pub like you’ve never seen before. Occupying a former 17th century pub, and taken over by The East London Pub Company, The Gun London serves up everything from pints to champagne and all the ambiance you need whether you’re popping in for a casual boozy afternoon or a night out dancing.

On the second to the last day of Wimbledon, we ventured to The Gun London to try out a few of their Wimbledon specials ourselves, while watching Serena Williams and Simona Halep battle it out on the court to become the Wimbledon women’s singles champion.

First up — was the ‘Webley at Wimbledon’, which was a dusty pink conception that harks back to Wimbledon’s strawberries and cream aesthetic. The cocktail was a delicious mix of Bulldog Gin with Tequila Rose, strawberry liqueur, and Mozart white chocolate vanilla cream. Don’t let its sweet creamy flavour fool you, because this cocktail certainly packs a punch.

We followed this with a trio from The Gun London’s excellent crunchy bites menu. The fried chicken with Sriracha Mayo & Togarashi spices, the lamb croquettes with Montgomery cheddar & curried coconut yoghurt dip, and the corn & kale salad are all must-haves, and go perfectly with a glass of Rosé.

Our dessert followed the Wimbledon theme and we had the ‘Strawberries of All Sorts’ — a pink and white dessert made of smoked cream, vanilla, mint, and strawberries. The perfect way to end an afternoon of tennis — on a sweet note.

Now that Wimbledon is over, and you’re still in the mood for some pink coloured drinks – don’t fret because you can still enjoy The Gun London’s limited #RoseYourWay menu – which includes everything from champagne, sparkling and Belsazar frozé, and will be available all throughout summer!

Here at House of Coco, we’re love the occasional countryside escape, especially an escape that lets our four-legged friends tag along too. So – armed with a large glass of GNT, I write about my wonderful doggy retreat to The Eastbury Hotel in Dorset with TeamCocopup Charlie.

Located in the charming Abbey town of Sherborne, The Eastbury Hotel is where familiar home comforts and country elegance come together in perfect harmony. Exuding a wealth of west country charms, The Eastbury Hotel is a quintessential English countryside escape that will surely impress any guest — especially the four legged ones.

This handsome Georgian Townhouse dates back to 1740 and was originally built as a gentleman’s residence. It was recently refurbished in 2018, following the acquisition by Peter and Lana de Savary of the prestigious de Savary Group. Outside, its red brick facade harks back to its Georgian history, but inside it is a picture of classic luxury, with all the modern touches of a luxury boutique hotel.

The Eastbury Hotel has all the signatures of a de Savary property; from the timeless elegance of its interiors to the impeccable service of its staff. We made our way across the hotel’s beautiful walled garden and into our delightful Garden Deluxe Room. Four of the Garden Deluxe rooms are dog-friendly, and the hotel even provides luxury dog-bedding for your pampered pooches. Each of the 21 rooms is named after a traditional English flower; a reflection of the beautiful flowers and trees that occupy the hotel’s idyllic gardens. Inside, these spacious room is a home away from home, with Egyptian cotton sheets, a cosy seating area and a handsome wooden writing desk, accented by a window that overlooks the garden below.

We were lucky enough to have been met by gentle winds and plenty of sunshine during our visit, which gave TeamCocopup Charlie the opportunity to truly make the most of the walled gardens and the spacious lawn at the hotel. The terrace is the perfect spot for summer drinks and overlooks the lawn, where guests can also enjoy a game of croquet, badminton, table tennis — and a very large game of chess.

If you are looking to explore outside of the hotel, the charming town of Sherborne has plenty of things to discover. The 1000 year old Sherborne Abbey is just a 10 minute walk away, and thequaint cobblestoned streets are worth exploring as well. These streets are filled with charming independent boutiques, to hearty restaurants serving excellent British cuisine. Look out for the paw signs outside restaurants and bars — which means that pets are welcome. Dorset is as dog-friendly as can be (so much so they have their own local doggy magazine)! So there’s plenty of places for your pup to explore. We recommend checking out the beautiful garden landscapes of Sherborne Castle too.

There is no better way to end a day of exploring than with dinner at The Eastbury Hotel’s award-winning Seasons Restaurant. The restaurant has won 2 Rosettes for culinary excellence and it is easy to see why. Chef Matthew Street offers up a refreshing take on British classics and uses only the freshest local ingredients. All of the produce is sourced from local suppliers, and the herbs come directly from the gardens.

As we bid goodbye to the beautiful Eastbury Hotel its cosy rooms, the calming sanctuary of its gardens, and the wonderful staff that have made our stay truly special — we’re already dreaming of our return to The Eastbury.

On a rainy spring Sunday, TeamCoco pup Charlie made his way to the Double Tree by Hilton to attend the inaugural doggy brunch at Savage Garden. What pup-tactic debauchery ensues? Read on to find out.

With 360 degree views of the city, opulent decor, and a stylish outdoor deck, Savage Garden is undeniably one of London’s best rooftop bars. You can only imagine our excitement, when we were told that Savage Garden London was opening its doors to pups and pooches all over the city for a very special doggy brunch — and it definitely did not disappoint.

In the lobby of the Double Tree Hilton, Charlie TeamCocopup Gillies met up with fellow TeamCoco pup Stanley Delf, for an unforgettable afternoon of doggy brunch. We all made our way up the elevatorand into Savage Garden’s swanky entrance hall, where we were immediately greeted with VIP treatment. (that’s Very-Important-Pooch treatment) The doggy brunch was launched in collaboration with British pet accessory brand, Hiro + Wolf, who treated the furry VIPs with a bag of treats and goodies.

Inside, there were pooches a plenty, as the VIPS made their ways to their respective tables. Amidst Savage Garden’s opulent decor and stunning views of the Tower of London, puppies and parents alike were chatting away, and taking in the lush scenery. Once we all settled in, we enjoyed some of Savage Garden’s perfectly crafted cocktails, while perusing their contemporary brunch menu. We recommend the ‘Flambard Colada,’ a rum and pineapple conception inspired by the Tower of London’s first prisoner, Ranulf Flambard. The ‘Horny Beast’ is also a great option for gin lovers, as this Beefeater Pink gin number is delicious, and also certainly packs the punch.

On the food front, the menu is as innovative as it is delicious, and is far removed from a traditional brunch menu as can be. We tried the Panko chicken cutlet, and the beetroot salmon, with a side of Plantain chips — a seemingly random combination of food, but all working together in perfect harmony. A testament to the excellence of Savage Garden’s kitchen crew. Don’t think that the pooches were left out, because Charlie and Stanley also got to enjoy their own organic cupcakes, which were so good even the paper got eaten.

Serendipitously, we ended up sitting beside the Double Tree Hilton’s General Manager, and her own adorable pooch. We talked about how the idea for the doggy brunch stemmed from her love of her own dog, and it became exceedingly clear why this particular doggy brunch has been so well executed. It’s because it’s something that came from theheart of a loving paw-rent too.

The next Savage Garden Doggy Brunch will take place on Sunday May 5, 2019. To reserve your table visit www.savagegarden.co.uk or call 020 7709 1043.

Our roving doggy rePAWter TeamCocopup Charlie and doting dog mum Hannah Tan-Gillies are celebrating International Dog Day in style at the Pan Pacific London – a stylish five-star hotel which delivers five-PAW service for all pampered pooches.

Pan Pacific London brings the unique flavour of Singaporean hospitality to the heart of the City. The hotel towers over One Bishopgate Plaza and is just a hop skip away from Liverpool Street Station and the hipster cool bars and nightclubs of Shoreditch.

The hotel brings together a balanced blend of architecture, contemporary design and cutting-edge technology, alongside boundary-pushing holistic wellbeing. Also offering a varied selection of exciting destination restaurants and bars, Pan Pacific London is the ultimate location for classic yet accessible luxury.

From the moment we set foot in the beautiful lobby – Charlie was treated like a true VIP (Very Important Pooch). The lovely staff at the reception treated him to a banana chewie, AND a French puff pastry.

The Orchid Lounge – offers a delectable seasonal afternoon tea menu which is inspired by the Singapore’s neighbourhood coffee shops – so expect some exotic Asian staples like Kopi Tiam, mixed with the British classics.

The 43-storey bronze tower offers 237 rooms which are the picture of elegance and tranquillity. Curved walls and neutral palettes welcome guests into the rooms, whilst custom headboards act as personalised art pieces, adding a layer of calm through the depiction of oak, elder, elm and maple trees. The zen-like bathrooms give off an air of tranquillity. Dressed in sleek grey marble and with heated floors and a wealth of amenities – it’s the perfect place to relax and recharge after a day of exploring all that East London has to offer.

We were upgraded to one of the more premium top-floor rooms which offered incredible views of the City. Charlie was greeted with a luxury dog bed and dog bowls, while we were greeted with some delicious chocolate treats.

The Paws and Pan Pacific package gives pampered pooches a true VIP stay as pets can relax and indulge with bespoke massages, reiki healing, puppy yoga and even dog walks and training sessions care of the Concierge. They even have their own breakfast and dinner menu, created by dog behaviourist and nutritionist Anna Webb, which can be served in-room or in Straits Kitchen.

Charlie’s Sushi style lamb hot pot dinner looked so delicious – that I simply had to take a bite. His dish comprised of lightly seared lamb on a bed of mash parsnips, carrots and homemade chicken-bone broth gravy – and honestly smelled and tasted better than your average pub meal. For breakfast, he was served sous vide lam sausages on mash – and the look on his face told us that he had honestly never eaten anything better in his entire doggy life.

The gastronomic offer for humans is equally, if not more, impressive. For dinner, we dined at the Strait’s Kitchen, the hotel’s signature restaurant. Led by Head Chef Nick Yung, Straits Kitchen is a love letter to Southeast Asian cuisine and boy does it deliver. Dishes like Hainanese Chicken Rice and Lotus Root Salad show that this isn’t a Westernised pan-Asian restaurant – but one that truly respects its roots. It certainly doesn’t hurt that the chic interiors, floor-to-ceiling windows and eclectic collection of art adds to the experience too. Plus there is a fantastic selection of Chinese wines – with the Riesling our top vintage.

When it was time to check out, we had well and truly fallen in love with Pan Pacific London and though it may be a bold statement to say, this is definitely the best and most luxurious hotel experience Charlie has ever had in the city. 15 out of 5 paws from Charlie.

Available as an add on to any overnight stay, with rooms starting from £520 +VAT, the Paws at Pan Pacific London package is priced from £60 per pet per stay. Book now: www.panpacific.com

Our gal Hannah Tan-Gillies and roving doggy rePAWter TeamCocopup Charlie checked into the Kimpton Fitzroy London for a stylish dog friendly staycation that pulled out all the stops.

Undoubtedly one of London’s most luxurious addresses, everyone certainly knows about the Kimpton Fitzroy. But did you know that the hotel offers a whole menu of luxury pet pampering services too?

In April, Kimpton Fitzroy teamed up with luxury dog-walking and day-care company The Hound Hut to offer VIP guests (very important pooches) a truly elevated hotel experience. With this, hotel guests can book royal pampering and dog walks around Bloomsbury straight with the hotel’s concierge team. The services include two to three hour walks and even day care services.

We love that there are no size, weight or breed restrictions for pets at the Kimpton Fitzroy – which goes to show how deep their pet-friendly policies go. Plus, TeamCocopup Charlie is allowed in many common areas including the lobby and Burr & Co. These incredible pet-friendly policies can be attributed to the hotel’s adorable Director of Pet Relations Winston, who (if you’re lucky) may be there to welcome you with a paw and tail wag.

Our stay began with cocktails at Burr & Co, an all-day pub/café concept which is the perfect spot to enjoy a welcome cocktail or get work done in front of leafy Russell Square.

We stayed in one of the elegant one bedroom suites, which boasted some incredible park views of Russell Square. The spacious suites feature a separate sitting area, a gorgeous four poster king-sized bed, a beautiful balcony and Nespresso machine and tea facilities. There is also a dog bed, dog bowls and treats for Charlie – which he absolutely adored.

The crowning jewel of the suite has to be the bathroom which is as Instagrammable as they come. Here, you will find his and hers sinks and a roll top tub – complete with a separate walk in shower.

Upon arriving to the room, we were greeted with an absolutely scrumptious vegan chocolate cake, which is a testament to the quality of service at Kimpton Fitzroy. I informed the hotel in advance of my dietary requirements and so the cake was an absolutely brilliant little treat.

Dinner was served at Galvin Bar & Grill, which is a modern-day twist on a classic British bar and grill as envisioned by Michelin-starred brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin. The opulent dining room is a sight to behold as is the menu – which will undoubtedly tantalise your taste buds.

For starters, you cannot go wrong with the Carlingford rock oysters nor the Dorset Crab & Piquillo pepper croquettes – which perfectly exemplify the simple, yet Michelin-star quality of the Galvin brothers’ cooking.

We went all out and ordered the Tomahawk Steak for two, which was succulent, perfectly charred and seasoned. Paired with the hotel’s fabulous selection of red wines, this meal was certainly one for the books.

We ended our evening at Fitz’s, a handsome bar lounge that boasts plenty of ambiance. Picture dark wood interiors, Art Deco velvet banquettes and an air of sophistication all around. Fitz’s was named after Charles Fitzroy Doll, the original architect of the Kimpton Fitzroy London. Its ‘Theory of Colour’ Menu offers 14 carefully crafted cocktails inspired by different works of art. It is a multi-sensory treat and the best way to end an evening at Kimpton Fitzroy.

As we tuck in for the night, with Charlie sleeping soundly in his luxury dog bed and I in the cosy comforts of my four poster bed – it became clear that Kimpton Fitzroy London has mastered the art of luxury hospitality not just for two-legged guests but for four-legged ones too.

Our girl Hannah Tan-Gillies and intrepid doggy rePAWter TeamCocopup Charlie went for a blissful solo getaway to Burleigh Court, a Cotswolds Hideaway that’s anything but ordinary.

Burleigh Court is a chic four-star boutique manor hotel, housed in a Grade II listed manor, that is surrounded by captivating Cotswolds countryside in Stroud. The hotel, which has one of the most beautiful views of Stroud’s Golden Valley, foregoes the sometimes stuffy environs of other manor house hotels and instead opts for a vibe that is elegant, warm and inviting. Imagine staying in one of the lush country manors ala Bridgerton – minus all the pomp and circumstance.

Burleigh Court invites guests to go slow and escape the busyness of their everyday lives and get lost amidst beautiful Cotswolds countryside walks, in-room spa treatments and of course delicious food. There are plenty of cosy corners to enjoy a book, read or work – with the outdoor garden being the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a glass of Rosé.

The best thing about Burleigh Court? It is that it is fabulously dog friendly. TeamCocopup Charlie was welcomed in most of the public spaces, with a dedicated area for doggy diners in the restaurant too. He absolutely loved exploring Burleigh Court’s expansive grounds and going on leisurely walks in the surrounding countryside.

Burleigh Court has 18, individually designed rooms with pet-friendly accommodation available in an adjacent coach house. Our room was incredibly spacious tastefully designed and ideally located in front of the grounds – perfect for late night doggy business. There was a dog bed, dog bowls and some treats too – which Charlie more than appreciated. The room décor was a love letter to Cotswolds charm and featured plenty of well-loved knick knacks, rich tapestries and even a delightful wall mural.

The food at Burleigh Court is definitely worth shouting about. The hotel has an award-winning two-rosette restaurant which maximises the flavours of locally sourced pr ingredients from the Gloucestershire countryside and the hotels’ own vegetable garden. Led by renowned British Chef Shaun Jones, every dish will make your taste buds tingle. Even more so when accompanied by one of the many vintages in the hotel’s impressive collection.

There is patio fireside dining, afternoon tea and a delectable dinner menu We loved the white asparagus and wild garlic dish and the trio of spring lamb which combined tender sous vide lamb and spiced lamb belly and served with punchy sagaloo potatoes and bunched carrots. Perfectly cooked and still memorable to this day.

After a whirlwind few months on the go, travelling to all corners of the world, this writer certainly needed that soul-enriching, life-affirming solo stay at Burleigh Court Cotswolds. From the warm hospitality of the staff, delicious food and beautiful Cotswolds countryside – there’s no better way to recharge than in this magical Cotswolds hideaway. When life once again gets away from us, we shall certainly be back.

Tucked at the end of a tree-lined drive in Bagshot Surrey is Pennyhill Park, a glorious spa hotel that is a world away from the hustle and bustle of London town but is just a quick 30 min train ride away from the city.

The fabulously dog friendly Pennyhill Park, part of the Exclusive Collection, is Surrey’s most luxurious spa retreat so our intrepid doggy reporter TeamCocopup Charlie and doting dog mum Hannah Tan-Gillies went to check it out for a cosy winter stay.

The sprawling hotel looks like it could have been lifted off a fairy-tale, complete with plenty of medieval touches throughout

the common areas. A romantic vine-covered gothic path leads up to the main house, while a large lagoon-esque pool dominates the view in. the back of the hotel.

We stayed in one of the dog-friendly Traditional Rooms which are generously sized and fille with plenty of cosy classic touches. These rooms come with dog bowls, a dog bed and a dog treat and enough space for you and your pooch to roam.

For dinner, the hotel’s Michelin-star and 44 AA Rosette restaurant Latymer is the talk of the town and while we sadly missed the chance to dine at Latymer (the restaurant was closed for staff training), we hear that it certainly is worth the hype.

Instead, we dined at the Hillfield restaurant, which boasts a hyperlocal farm to table concept that celebrates the very best of local Surrey ingredients. The restaurant is named after ‘Pennyhillfield’ which is the historic name of the land, and rightly so, as it showcases the best of Surrey’s finest produce. Hillfield is casual and relaxed, while the menu offers a nice variety of classic British fare with a local twist. The monkfish scampi with seaweed tartare sauce is simply divine, as is the sticky short rib ‘eggs benedict’ which really hunkers down on our belief that breakfast for dinner can indeed be a thing.

For mains, the Crown Estate Venison, served with turnip and a delicious pickled blackberries just as well as the Barracks Farm 30 day dry aged steak are wonderfully delicious choices sourced from local producers, while also bringing home the farm to table concept.

Breakfast is also served at Hillfield restaurant, and it is here that we first caught glimpse of the Pennyhill Park Spa – which is one of the hotels main draws. Doggies are understandably not allowed in the spa, and while our stay was too short to fully experience what the spa has to offer, this sprawling palace of wellness sure seems like a treat for those who are looking for the idyllic wellness getaway in Surrey.

Luckily for dog owners, Pennyhill Park sits amongst 120 acres of glorious parkland, perfect for long, indulgent dog walks in the great British countryside.

For a stylish London stay, it doesn’t get cooler than Shoreditch, the centre of East London cool. And – if you’re the type to never leave home without your four-legged friend then there’s no better place than Hart Shoreditch.

Part of Hilton’s Curio Collection, Hart Shoreditch London is quite literally in the beating heart of everything and anything in Shoreditch. During London Fashion Week, it was a stone’s throw away from all the major East London venues, it’s also just a quick stroll away from the bars and nightclubs of Shoreditch High Street, Old Street and Great Eastern Street.

A fifteen minute stroll to Old Spitalfields Market and even Columbia Road and all the cool boutiques of Ebor Street and Boundary Road. You simply can’t find a better hotel to explore all thet Shoreditch has to offer.

Unlike other uppity hotels, Hart Shoreditch embraces the work hard/play hard lifestyle of East London’s jet-set. During the day, the stylish industrial-style lobby is a hub for laptop warriors having meetings, coffees and pow wows. In the evening, the lobby transforms into a cool lounge area, perfect for pre-night out cocktails with the gals.

Every room in Hart Shoreditch is dog-friendly – which is a bonus for us. We were originally booked into one of the Deluxe suites, but for an easy £40 for our two-night stay. The King Junior Suites are chic, cosy and come with an array of luxury amenities. Comfy bedding, stylish interiors, Norwegian toiletries and of course tea and coffee amenities too. Charlie was greeted with a doggy bowl and doggy bed, and a bag of treats – which he of course, appreciated.

The restaurant is home to a rotating pop-up of dining concepts. During our stay, it was the fabulous Mostrador, a family-style dining concept by Fernando Trocca which was influenced by Latin America’s ‘mostradores’ counter-service restaurants.

A bold reflection of Chef Fernando’s Latin spirit, Mostrador serves up some delicious Latin-inspired dishes that will truly take your breath away. The scallop tartare is refreshing and perfectly prepared offering a tantalising taster for what’s to come. The polpo, served Galatian-style with potatoes and greens, is a wonderful homage to traditional Spanish mostradores-style dining while the croquetas are simply divine.

For mains, we recommend splurging on the Argentinian Rib Eye. At £80 and with enough for two (three actually) diners, this was without a shadow of a doubt the best steak we’ve ever had in London. The steak is blackened with a flavourful rub of spices, while the meat itself mouth-wateringly tender and cooked to perfection. You won’t find a better steak than this in the whole of the city, and you will certainly be coming back for more.

Breakfast too is served at Mostrador and hotel guests can choose from a selection of avocado, bacon, eggs benedict and other things on toast – served with a nice hot cup of coffee and some fresh fruit juice.

In terms of dog-friendliness, TeamCocopup Charlie is allowed absolutely everywhere. He accompanied us during our meetings at the Mostrador Bar, treated himself to some steak offcuts during our dinner at the restaurant, enjoyed the fresh morning sunlight at breakfast and of course – made plenty of new friends all over the hotel lobby too. In fact, we were so impressed with our stay at Hart Shoreditch, that we did come back, just a week later, turning it into our base for London Fashion Week. For the price, quality, service and location – it simply doesn’t get better than this in East London.
