With special thanks to the Hotel Pulitzer

If you’re reading this you’re probably already a well versed traveller. Well enough for us to not need to tell you that Amsterdam isn’t just for smoking weed, stag parties and hen dos. But have you ever thought of Amsterdam as the absolute perfect place to take your significant other? Probably not, but don’t sweat (yet…), here’s how you do it.

The first choice you have to make is when to go, but that’s easy because Amsterdam is on of those cities you can enjoy at any time of year. That said, we’d recommend spring or autumn to avoid the heavy crowds but still get some nice, romantic weather. Although, it’s beautiful around Christmas time too!

WHERE TO STAY

The Hotel Pulitzer Amsterdam captures the whole of Amsterdam in one building (perfect if you’re not planning on leaving your bedroom…), but it wasn’t always this way. Back when the hotel was created, the owner knocked through 10 existing canal houses to create one giant building. The result? A quirky haven of mismatched rooms and passageways leading to stairways that lead to more passageways. Today, the hotel spans across 25 different original buildings, each decked out in a fresh and modern yet distinct design, with city references around every corner.

Amsterdam is a city that moves at such a fast pace, it’s sometimes hard to keep up with what’s hot. The Pulitzer has an army of some of the city’s finest concierges, ready to hook you up with anything you need, which is also where we come in.

WHERE TO EAT & DRINK

Pause

Pause at Pulitzer is one of Amsterdam’s hottest lunch locations, perfectly hidden in plain sight for all day breakfast, coffee, cocktails – whatever you want. The pork belly and spring onion Poke Bowl is exquisite, but for more substantial appetites there’s an extensive menu with French vibes – pastries, quiche, fancy eggs and even the classic Croque Monsieur.

SOIL of Amsterdam

Ten years ago in San Francisco, in a bid to rid the world of boring plant-based food, Gustavo Bottino and Remco Groeneveld created SOIL. The desire was to reduce animal proteins in dishes but still harness the flavour that a lot of plant-based recipes lack. SOIL have smashed it, and the Amsterdam café has become something of a veggie institution for the coolest of customers.

Noorderlicht

The menu at Noorderlicht is created with the objective to have as little impact on the environment as possible. It’s mostly vegan and vegetarian, but in a refreshing twist of the norm, a few sustainable meat and fish options are available as side dishes. There’s real fun to be had with dishes you wouldn’t usually try, and the sharing style is so welcome for couples. Did we mention that you will absolutely devour the cocktail list? Try the rhubarb G&T for a little taste of home.

Ctaste

Dining in the dark is genuinely one of the most bizarre experiences you will ever have. You will be led to your table in the absolute pitch black, to the point you can’t see your hand in front of your face. The sudden loss of sight heightens your other senses, and since you’re not really sure what you’re going to be eating, aromas and flavour have never been more poignant. Sounds scary? Don’t worry, the restaurant team provide impeccable service and put you at ease, and if you were wondering how they do it, each member of staff is visually impaired.

Ton Ton Club

The original Ton Ton Club is tucked away down a tiny street by the Oude Kerk a couple of streets away from the thick of the red light district. This Amsterdam’s way of telling you to get super competitive with your partner – it’s basically an arcade bar, filled with retro arcade machines and board games to discover your inner child.

Pllek

We’re seeing Box Park-esque venues pop up all over the world and falling in love with each and every one of them. Pllek has been constructed from old shipping containers, and its sense of sustainability echoes through everything they do. They focus on organic in their menu which spans lunch through dinner. The whole venue is a bit of a nightlife hub, and on warm days you can chill with your loved one out on their very own riverside sandy beach.

WHAT TO DO

Adam Lookout

It’s a little known fact that there’s more than one way to get high in Amsterdam… Sitting atop the Sir Adam hotel across the canal behind the Centraal Station (there’s a super quick free ferry that will get you across in literal seconds) is the A’DAM Lookout. Sounds like a pretty tame viewing platform right? Wrong. The lookout is one of Amsterdam’s newest big attractions, a swing fit for two that literally swings over the edge of the hotel 100 metres above the ground. It’s exhilarating, and for daredevils only. Don’t forget to enjoy the view… if you can keep your eyes open.

Chocolate tasting

Chocolate is one of the world’s most popular main- stream aphrodisiacs, but what do you really know about it? In fact, did you know that Amsterdam is actually the world’s largest import port for cocoa? No you didn’t, but don’t panic. The expert chocolate tasting guides will tell you all you need to know.

Renting a tandem

Remember the song about a bicycle build for two? “Daisy, Daisy I’m half crazy… all for the love of you” – yeah it’s irritating, but not quite as irritating as actually riding a bike made for two people. And when we say irritating, we mean fun as hell. This is something that will have your cheeks hurting for hours afterwards, and maybe not just the ones on your face. Vacations are a time that might test your relationship, so why not push yourselves to the limit?!

Romantic Boat Tour

This is without a doubt one of the unexpectedly romantic experiences we have ever had. Boat drivers serenade you with romantic music and love stories and you sail through Amsterdam’s 165 canals (okay, maybe not all 165), admiring the city’s stunning unique architecture. Amsterdam is unlike anywhere else in the world, and experiences like this remind you exactly where you are in the world, in that one moment, with the person that you love.

Switzerland are world leaders in a lot of things – cheese, chocolate, watches, skiing, trains, mountains, politics, and even tiny knives. Fewer people know that the Swiss are actually masters of hospitality too, and The Alpina Gstaad is perhaps the finest example.

High above the shores of Lake Geneva in a desirable and striking hilltop location, close to cultural hub and summer hotspot Montreux, is The Alpina Gstaad. On first glance, the building is traditional, with the typical aesthetic of alpine ski lodges – timber-clad, rustic, and probably covered in snow. However, open the doors to begin an entirely different story.

Imagine if you took some of London’s trendiest hotels out of the city and transformed them into an alpine retreat, that’s what we have here, and it works perfectly. The attention to detail sets The Alpina aside from nearby luxury hotels, from the cool basement cinema to the Acqua di Parma toiletries in every bathroom.

In a hotel where you would absolutely expect the best of the best, what would you expect from a restaurant other than a Michelin-star? Award winning Executive Chef Martin Göschel supervises the Alpina’s three restaurants: Sommet, Megu and Swiss Stübli.

Megu is known as the best Asian restaurant in Switzerland, and for a good reason. Head Chef Tetsujiro Ogata and Head Sushi Chef Tsutomu Kugota serve up a modern take on authentic Japanese dishes, with lavish presentations and some of the rarest ingredients in the world, let alone Switzerland. Among its many accolades, the restaurant also holds the title for having the largest sake collection in the country, which for me was very appealing news indeed.

If, like me, you succumb to the siren call of the dramatic landscapes of the mountains but you’re not actually a skier, you’re in luck. The Alpina is a resort in itself, and the world-renowned spa was what put this hotel on my radar initially.

There’s no way to describe the Six Senses Spa without using some form of cliché, so here’s a few: nirvana, sanctuary, haven, refuge, oasis… and so on. It’s all of those and more. Gstaad isn’t remote by any stretch of the imagination, but The Alpina’s spa transports you to another world, one that’s remote, calming and free of the humdrum of daily life. Health and wellbeing is the core of all the activity here, and their staff are world experts in the treatments they provide, from core beauty that transforms your façade, to specialist treatments that change the waves within to make you feel at one with your body and soul.

There’s also a hammam, a Salt Room, Oriental Room and our favourite, the striking Cave Room, which looks like it’s made from chunks of Himalayan pink salt. A wellness studio is the centre of class-based activities like Tai-Chi (definitely try this), and there’s even hydrotherapy in the changing rooms themselves, with saunas, ice showers (be careful to try this!) and plunge pools (again, worth it but brace yourself).

To make sure you get the absolute most of your stay, the spa encourages a Wellness Screening at the start of your stay to help you on your ‘way to wellness’. This non-invasive screening analyses your key physiological biomarkers and enables the experts to build a personalised program that blends high-tech science with ancient healing traditions, alternative therapies, holistic spa treatments and wellness activities.

Besides being at the absolute height of luxury and serenity, a real standout for The Alpina is the touches of personalisation. One if the key services they offer is an ‘Alchemy Bar’, which offers guests the opportunity to blend together your own scrubs and oils to your liking, which are then later used in your treatments upon your spa visit.

The spa’s centrepiece, and our favourite place, is the outdoor pool which in summer becomes a real focal point of activity. It’s surrounded by gardens designed by Jean Mus (known as the gardener who draws happiness) and has some of the most impressive views of the Alps you’ll experience in your lifetime. Whether you’re watching the sun come up, or down, it doesn’t matter – time simply fades away and you own the moment.

First, let’s explain the differences between the bays of the Tonkin golf course and of course why we chose to take a cruise to Bai Tu Long bay. Ha Long Bay attracts millions of visitors each year and is home to thousands of boats. This is due to the well-deserved notoriety of the site and the imagination it arouses. However what about “its neighbours”, Lan Ha Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay? Many tourists have considered these bays as the must-see destinations in Vietnam. Unfortunately, you don’t have enough time to explore all three. You wonder how these bays are different from Ha Long Bay and if you will miss something in Lan Ha Bay, in Bai Tu Long Bay if you choose Halong Bay and vice versa ?

This article provides you with all the information on the 3 bays and will help you make your final decision as well as our experience at Tu Long Bay.

Halong Bay

Halong Bay is recognised as one of the 7 wonders of nature and still retains its charm. It is a place of exceptional beauty. However, hundreds of boats and tourists, especially in high season, are in the bay every day. So, it is the most frequented among the three.

Lan Ha Bay

Called “forgotten paradise”, Lan Ha bay is the smallest bay in the trinity. It is located south of its famous neighbour. It is less touristy, less inhabited, and as beautiful as Halong Bay itself. With around 400 beaches, it is very easy for you to find your own ideal place for swimming, snorkelling. If you like adventure, go hiking, when you choose between Lan Ha Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay and Halong Bay, Horizon Vietnam Travel highly recommends Lan Ha Bay. As a kayaking paradise, Lan Ha Bay even allows you to paddle in a cave!

Bai Tu Long bay

Located east of Halong Bay and close to the Sino-Vietnamese border, cruise in Bai Tu Long Bay brings unexpected and original wonder. There is a peaceful atmosphere for a more autonomous visit to the islands and caves, this is Bai Tu Long bay. A landscape similar to Ha Long Bay with remarkably clear waters and less touristy attractions, Bai Tu Long Bay has its own magic. You will never know what you will find there and it is hard to imagine how beautiful and breathtaking it is.There are many pleasures and attractions in this bay: the fishing village of VungVieng, Da Xep park, ThienCanh Son cave, Tam Cung cave and Ban Chan beach,….

It is with great pleasure that we take you to discover Bai Tu Long Bay, one of the natural wonders of the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located approximately 4 hours’ drive from Hanoi, this site is located in the Tonkin Gulf of the China Sea. This vast maritime bay is the largest in the world. It never ceases to attract travellers who are always amazed by the exceptional landscapes that the bay of Bai Tu Long Bay can offer. Very similar to Ha Long Bay, it is less touristy, however, which makes the trip all the more pleasant.

Now let’s talk about what interests you most: the landscapes! Leaving the port we gradually discover the many karst peaks in the bay, it’s very impressive, it feels like a movie set (The guide also told us that one of the James Bond films should have been filmed on this site but that the Vietnamese government refused at the last moment). We were lucky because the weather was clear, but even with overcast weather there is no doubt that the landscapes must be as beautiful!

So … which one would you choose? That depends on you but if you don’t want a tourist spot that isn’t too crowded, Bai Tu Long Bay is the best option.

In the latest season of Killing Eve, Villanelle sits on the carpet of a pristine hotel room. She’s draped in a dressing gown with her hair wet and slicked back, seemingly refreshed and relaxed as she reclines against the foot of the bed. In that moment, Villanelle has a newfound desire to meet her family. The setting is purposeful and tasteful like much of the programme’s exotic locations. This episode might even be a favourite so far for the balmy Barcelona terraces and subterranean bars that seem like a distant memory.

Drooling over fleeting scenes of sultry hotel rooms is one of the many ways we can mentally transport ourselves for the foreseeable future. And yes, we are also lusting after the idyllic Italian villa from Normal People (minus Jamie).

While flights are grounded, there are plenty of hotels out there leading the way with virtual activities to alleviate lockdown tedium. We’re all for virtual yoga on the beach as much as a transportive “quarintini” cocktail recipe if it means escaping for a short while. Here, we’ve compiled some of the most fun and creative ways hotels are lending a helping hand before we can show them some love once more.

MarBella Collection

Step away from the screen with MarBella Collection’s new mindfulness colouring. Adult colouring books were all the rage at one point, but we were probably all too busy commuting or socialising to give them a go. There’s no time like the present as the saying goes. Outlines of Greece’s bountiful backdrops and sunset scenes from MarBella Collection’s beautiful properties in Corfu and Parga are a therapeutic escape for pent-up travellers. Don’t forget to hashtag #MindfulWithMarbella to connect with like-minded travellers and future artistes in the making. You can download the sheets here.

Nihi Sumba

Master various breathing techniques in Nihi Sumba’s new Instagram live series. The 45-minute sessions offer breathwork exercises, with the intention to help participants overcome stressful situations through the development of self-awareness. These practices will draw on diaphragmatic and yogic breathing techniques by candlelight. Tune in weekly on Nihi Sumba’s IG Live.

Babylonstoren

If you’ve been longing for the outdoors, join Babylonstoren for frequent tours around their tropical garden. Enjoy a (virtual) whizz around the citrus block in a short but intimate tour of the farm with Constance Stuurman or the beautiful cycad garden with professional botanists and horticulturists. Tune in everyday for something new. We can’t wait to take a post-lockdown stroll through the garden amidst the yuzus and tamarillos.

Windjammer Landing

Everyone seems to be baking banana bread or honing the art of a newfound skill. Mixology might be next, thanks to Windjammer Landing’s easy breezy cocktail recipe made from super sweet citrus flavours. One taste and you’re far off on St Lucia’s kaleidoscopic beaches flanked by frangipani trees.

Le Sirenuse

Anyone else living for virtual live DJ sets at the moment? Le Sirenuse and Emporio Sirenuse have introduced the very cool concept of live DJ sessions around the world to alleviate lockdown fatigue. DJ friends of the hotel, including Mia Moretti and Lucy Wrubel, have just hosted live takeovers in support of Le Sirenuse and the hospitality in Italy. The sets are then uploaded onto Spotify. Other than general wellbeing, live sets have been great for having a boogie and then getting an early night without having to take the night bus home. It’s a win-win. See the playlists for yourself.

The Legian Seminyak

The Legian team have put together a weekly series of wellness experiences set in their beautiful Bali properties. Partake in recipe cook-a-longs, guided yoga with ocean views and expert led mindfulness sessions. Create your own herbal-infused water for an immune boost or prepare a Michelin-starred meal inspired by Executive Chef Stephane Gortina. Gortina will talk participants through his famous ‘Marinated Mahi Mahi’ recipe. Here’s hoping we can keep up with his effortless finesse. Videos are being released on a weekly basis on IGTV every Thursday with the hashtag #StayHomeWithLHM.

Courmayeur Mont Blanc

We can’t deny a live-streamed yoga class positioned against a real, but virtual, mountainous backdrop. This Saturday, Courmayeur Mont Blanc will be hosting the class to mentally transport your mind to the soul-stirring mont blanc massif. For Italy, this is a remarkable sign of progression as lockdown restrictions are eased ever so slightly. Time: 9am BST. When: Saturday 16th May. Place: the comfort of your living room, bedroom or a stretch of grass within social distancing parameters—whatever suits your fancy.

Fancy yourself a bit of a mixologist? Well now is the chance to hone those skills during lockdown. World Cocktail Day, 13th May is the ideal time to perfect your flaring! It’s a day for the global celebration of cocktails and marks the publication date of the first definition of a cocktail on May 13 in 1806. We have rounded up signature cocktails from around the world for you to try. As many pet owners know, traveling with your dog can be very frustrating if you do not prepare for the journey. However, if well-prepared, sharing your adventures with your pets can be a very fulfilling and rewarding experience. For example, a portable dog fence will help them feel more safe and secure. To help you feel prepared, here is a list of the top items you need to have on hand when traveling with your dog.

A Crate To Call Home

The first item that you must have is a good crate. This crate can provide your dog with a ‘home’ that they can rest in during travel and in the evenings. Having something that smells and feels familiar can help them feel more comfortable as they experience new places with you. There are many options and price ranges for these crates. If you are looking for versatility, a collapsible crate is a great option. If durability is of more concern, a traditional hard plastic crate with a metal door may be more your style.

A Leash For Mobility

While crates are great for safe travel, your dog is like you–they need to stretch their legs! They also may feel stressed or excited when they experience new surroundings and may not stay close to you if you let them out, no matter how well they have been trained. A simple leash will allow you to take them on short walks at rest stops, gas stations, and hotels with peace of mind. It also gives you options for exercise once you’ve reached your destination. Visit this site to read more about the best dog harness that are available in the market. It is an essential item if you do not want to lose your beloved dogs as they will misbehave when they are overly excited.

Bags to Clean Up Messes

Your dog will also need to take bathroom breaks on your trip, so bringing poop bags is important. And if you stop at established rest stops, restaurants, and gas stations along the way, you should be able to easily find trash cans where you can throw the bags away and a sink to wash your hands.

A Robust Supply of Food and Water

While you can go through a drive-thru or sit-down at a restaurant along the way, your dog isn’t so lucky. Be sure you bring enough food to feed them at their regular meal times throughout your travels. It is also smart to bring a little extra in case a bag gets lost, some food gets wet, or you end up staying longer than planned. For water, make sure you have a bowl your dog can drink out of, and that you know where you can get water from along the way. Usually, any stop that you can get a drink at will have water that you can access for your dog as well.

Don’t Forget The Treats

Everyone knows that one of the best parts of a road trip is the snacks, and your dog is no different. Being cooped up in the car all day definitely calls for a reward. Bringing your dog’s favorite treats can help them enjoy the experience during those extra long drives or airplane rides. The pleasant surprise is that you can share your treats such as cherries, blueberries and strawberries with your pet. Casey from ScoutKnows recommends stocking up on snacks that are apt for both people and pooches so you can store them all together in one place for everyone to indulge in.

Oh, and Their favorite Toy

Remember doing word searches or playing handheld video games on those long car rides as a kid? Dogs need to stay entertained too! Buy their favorite toy or two from a pet shopnear you that can help them stay happy while traveling, especially if you will be covering long distances.

A Warm Blanket or Towel

This can serve a couple of different purposes. First, it gives your dog something soft to lay on. You can put it in their crate, lay it out on the grass, or use it as a soft bed in a hotel room. You can also use it to wipe your dog down if they get dirty or wet before allowing them back in your car, camper, or hotel room. You can find a great selection at PetParentsBrand.com

A Current Picture of your Dog

Although you always hope it will never happen, it’s good to be prepared. If your dog happens to get lost while traveling, it is important to have a picture to show people when you are looking for them. It will definitely increase your chances of finding them in an unfamiliar place.

Just in Case: Vaccination Records

This is especially important when crossing country borders or flying, but it can be useful even if you are just traveling to another state. If, for some reason, you end up needing to board your dog at an unfamiliar kennel, having these records can ensure that you won’t have any issues.

Remember, your dog can be a great traveling companion as long as you are prepared. So pick your destination, pack your bags, and get going on your journey!

It can be daunting to tour someone who’s been in many places in the world. What can you show someone who’s been to Timbuktu and hiked Machu Picchu? How can you wow a person who has been to a real safari adventure? Thankfully, Phoenix has a lot of things to show to new visitors. You’ll never run out of things to show, so this handy guide will streamline your plans.

The best souvenirs from Phoenix, Arizona that you can take home are the memories you and your friend will have touring the city. Have you lived here all your life? Or have you just moved and wanted to show a friend around? Whether you’re showing someone how cool Phoenix is or just discovering it yourself, these five things will make you appreciate living in the Valley of the Sun:

Desert Botanical Garden

Gardens are a lot different in Phoenix. Forget about theBrooklyn Botanic Gardenwith its pretty cherry blossoms in spring. Phoenix’s botanical garden is raw and unblemished. The garden hosts a variety of plant life, but the best one is the cactuses that actually grow and thrive there. If you are lucky, you might even see event organizers light up the desert with a light and sound exhibit, which they did back in 2019.

Hot Air Balloon

If you truly want to show Phoenix and all its glory, thenride a hot air balloon. The view from the top is amazing, and you can expect a glass of champagne at the end of the flight. You’ll fly over barren lands and a cactus-filled desert. Phoenix from the view above is a sight to behold. If you haven’t been on one, this is the best time to experience it.

Camelback Mountain

Would it ever be a real trip to Phoenix if you didn’t see or hike the 825-meter Camelback Mountain?Phoenixresidents take great pride in the mountain, which was called as such because it looked like the hump and head of a kneeling camel. To reach the top, you can take either the Echo Canyon Trail or the Cholla Trail. Both are less than 1.5 miles, but they are not for the faint of heart. If hiking isn’t your thing, you can take a snap of it from the metropolitan area.

Phoenix Zoo

Unlike other zoos, the Phoenix Zoo keeps only animals acclimated to Phoenix’s hot weather. You can see coyotes, bobcats, cougars, lions, giraffes, cheetahs, gazelles, jaguars, Sumatran tigers, Asian elephants, and spider monkeys. If you’re with kids, they’ll be happy in a 4-D theater that uses effects to make the experience even more real.

Phoenix Art Museum

As much as it’s a joy to try Phoenix’s outdoor activities, the Phoenix Art Museum cannot be missed. So if you have only one more slot in your itinerary, spend that in this museum. The collection covers the works of Picasso, Georgia O’Keeffe, Henri Rousseau, Henry Moore, Frida Kahlo, and Diego Rivera.

Does it need to be said that you should grab a beer and head to a rooftop bar? Phoenix’s temperature would want you to reach for that cold beer in the middle of the day. Try to contain yourself and seek that ice-cold beer in the evening when the rest of the city is ready for a night out in town.

Caravan hire is being offered by dozens of rental companies across the United Kingdom. These companies are offering relatively new caravans ready at your disposal. However, they also come at a cost. Compared to hiring from other consumers, the prices are relatively high. This is the reason that camptoo.uk.co came into existence. This platform aims to bring consumers together to enable caravan hire.

Ready, set and go on your next holiday

The process of camptoo.uk.co is an easy one. Firstly, you decided where you want to go and how you want to plan your holiday. For example, do you want to start your hire near your own location or when you arrive? The advantage of caravan hire on your destination is fuel cost. With less weight, you will consume less fuel. On the other hand, using the caravan on your way enables you to stay the night somewhere or cook wherever you want. Thus, increasing the flexibility of your travels.

Why use a platform?

When renting from other consumers there usually is skepticism and a lack of trust. This is where camptoo.uk.co comes in and focus on mitigating these elements. By validating personal information and functioning as an escrow, transactions are completed after returning the caravan. In case of damage, the platform helps to solve the situation and insurance claims are handled accordingly. This allows the renters to have a hassle free source of income.

A few clicks away from your next holiday

Traveling by caravan hire also helps you to travel on your own at your own pace. Instead of staying at crowded hotels and being limited to the breakfast times, you have your own kitchen and equipment at your disposal. This provides you with all the flexibility you can wish for. Going to that local bakery or get some quick groceries from the breakfast? The choices are limitless!

When you use camptoo.co.uk you can select the caravan according to your own style. Do you want to hire an authentic older model or are you looking for a luxurious version? The platform allows you to set your own requirements and filter to what matters most. You can have contact with the renter in case of any questions about the caravan.

The UK is the perfect spot for the caravan

Not only do a lot of people in the United Kingdom have a caravan and rent it out, also the number of campings and places to stay are countless. Staying in a national park or within the heart of London, all is possible. Not only are there many locations, the opportunities in terms of pricing can also be tweaked to your own needs. Want to go low budget? This is easily possible when picking the right campings.
