Elena Murzello discovers the healing island of Lošinj in Croatia, an enchanting destination that will soothe your soul

Travelling to new places reminds me that not everyone is so lucky to live within close proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Mountains. I often take for granted the simplicity of nature and its wholesome benefits of being in a healing environment. Lošinj, Croatia, known as the “Healing Island,” is blessed with a similar magical microclimate. While the West Coast of Canada is also known as the “Wet Coast” due to the amount of rain, Lošinj boasts over 200 days of glorious sunshine.

As a guest of the Lošinj Hotels, I had the opportunity to visit Čikat Bay and experience firsthand the healing surroundings and the wellness of the water.

Setting

The island of Lošinj is nestled in the Čikat Bay along the Adriatic Sea. After flying on a short two-hour flight from Gatwick Airport to Pula, we then boarded a small, 30-minute ferry to the island of Lošinj. From there, we were whisked away by private car service to the beautiful Hotel Bellevue. Both the Hotel Bellevue and its sister property, Boutique Hotel Alhambra line the bay and ensure that guests have direct, unobstructed access to the crystal-clear waters.

Arriving in the early afternoon, I immediately went to the oversized balcony in my room to check out the view, overlooking the wispy two-century-old bonsai-like Aleppo Pine trees.

In the 1800s, it was Professor Ambroz Haračić who established the Association for the Afforestation and Beautification of Mali Lošinj. In the first year, the association planted over 80 thousand pine trees (mostly Aleppo pine and Scots pine) filling the area to prevent excessive soil erosion and unexpected flooding. Today, visitors can admire the remaining pines surrounding Čikat Bay.

From the time Professor Haračić sparked interest in Lošinj, several studies have been executed to understand the connection between the environment and its benefits on human health. In 2012, Anamarija Margan-Šulc looked at the benefits and the favourable outcomes of the air, and water quality, as well as the surrounding pine tree forest and medicinal plants, with respect to people with chronic respiratory conditions. She published her findings in her book entitled Health Tourism and Natural Healing Factors of the Island of Lošinj.

We started our trip by taking in the sea air with a seaside yoga class in the early morning. The air smelled fresh and oxygenated versus the smoky, polluted air often found in large, active port cities with large amounts of industrialization. The trees, the clear water and the sun all serve in the ongoing loop for water purification.

On our final day, we were also treated to a guided tour around Lošinj on a beautiful traditional English wooden sailboat, courtesy of Catriona II. It was a fantastic way to see the clarity of the light turquoise sea and mark the end of the rejuvenating and relaxing trip.

Spa

Visitors come to Lošinj for the picturesque setting but stay to be pampered and rejuvenated with spa treatments at both the Hotel Bellevue and the Boutique Hotel Alhambra. The treatments are designed under the guidance of international Spa consultant, Melissa Meltzer.

The Hotel Bellevue’s Bellevue Spa Clinic is set in a large modern space and is complete with award-winning clinical detox programs. Nominated for the World’s Best Detox Programme 2023 by the World Spa Awards, the signature Sea-Tox Programme can be joined for a duration of 3,7 or 14 days. Through a combination of wellness activities and healthy superfoods, the program serves guests with both an inner and outer full-body detox.

I found the most impactful spa treatment at the Hotel Bellevue was the Cold-Water Immersion therapy which took place in the Secret Spa. Outside the main spa, the private outdoor Secret Spa suite has a herbal sauna, jacuzzi, cool plunge, showers, al fresco treatment space and relaxation grotto. I could see it being occupied by a discerning couple or a group of friends celebrating a private occasion. It was the perfect space to test our mental wits and stamina (somewhat physical) while we were immersed in 250 kilos of ice. I managed to stay in the pool for 10 min and then went straight into the sauna for some Qi Gong arm swings to get warmed up.

There has been ongoing research to show the benefits of an ice bath. Health and wellness experts often talk about using it for muscle recovery and soreness, and to cool your body after strenuous exercise. While our ice bath was in the morning, not after activity at all, I found it forced me to focus on my breathing and my thoughts. This, at the core, builds mental elasticity.

In a course of mental mindfulness, one night, along Bellevue Beach we floated on an inflatable water bed out to sea as we listened to soothing tranquil music under the stars. It was hard not to fall into a deep slumber, especially after our dinner.

Not directly water-focused, yet still notable, was the Alhambra Spa at the Boutique Hotel Alhambra.  We were treated to the indigenous flora and fauna through the Kurhaus Inhalation Bar. There are 1018 plant species, and over 200 are medicinal herbs found in the area. Using these herbs and plants, we sampled a medicinal inhalation through a ceramic inhalation pot before our treatment.

Mimicking those used in the 1800’s, the steam is inhaled by a glass tube attached to the pot for cough, sinus and nasal relief. Capturing the essence of the islands’ natural setting, the spa suites in the Alhambra Spa had the appeal of an intimate rustic cabin with a warm woodsy atmosphere.

Seafood

Living on the coast, I am used to the availability of fresh seafood on a whim. I did make an effort to have my fill of the seafood supplied by the abundant Adriatic Sea. Our first dinner at the Hotel Bellvue’s Matsunoki restaurant was a feast for the eyes, as well as the stomach. Awarded with the Michelin Plate, we were served with Chef Orhan Cakiroglu’s finest sushi and dumplings. The re-imagined traditional Japanese fare was served so fresh, it melted in your mouth. Such a special treat to welcome us to the property.

The pièce de la résistance meal was our dinner on our last night at the Michelin-star Alfred Keller Restaurant, located at the Boutique Hotel Alhambra. The nine-course meal was a combination of local Croatian and Mediterranean influences from both sea and land. My favourite was The Alfred Keller Restaurant under the supervision of the two-Michelin Star chef Christian Kuchler and in collaboration with Chef Michael Gollenz. A truly decadent way to end a wonderful stay in Lošinj.

Gazing across the serene water from the morning ferry departing Lošinj, my conviction about the “healing island” deepened. The secrecy surrounding the enchanting waters of Čikat Bay became apparent, understanding why those privy to its wonders keep it guarded. From the Aleppo pine tree-bordered, crystalline waters to the harmonious blend of exquisite spa treatments and savoury Michelin star meals, Lošinj transcends being a mere hidden gem. Since the early 1800s, those fortunate enough to have already visited Lošinj, know its distinction as a haven of quiet luxury, where rejuvenation intersects with the natural habitat, with wellness woven into the very fabric of its waters.

The Caribbean is a region made up of more than 700 islands and thirteen distinct countries. Well-known for their magnificent scenery, tropical climate and warm hospitality, the Caribbean islands are a popular choice for a vacation spot, attracting millions of tourists every year.

Here are just some of the reasons why one of the Caribbean islands could be the perfect destination for your next holiday.

Beaches and Oceans

Caribbean beaches are amongst the most idyllic in the world. With its soft white beaches and turquoise oceans, this paradise is the perfect place to yacht charter. With excellent fishing, snorkelling and diving opportunities on offer, sailing the Caribbean is a phenomenal experience and a diver’s paradise.

There’s also no shortage of pristine beaches, including Cuba’s famous ‘blue beach’, Playa Varadero, Pigeon Point Beach in Tobago and the beaches along the Platinum Coast of Barbados. Or how about a pink sand beach instead? Getting their pink hue from crushed foraminifera shells, there are several to choose from in the Caribbean, including Crane Beach in Barbados or Harbour Island in the Bahamas.

Delicious Food

Caribbean cuisine is highly influenced by other cultures, including African and East Indian as well as European influences from countries such as Spain and France. The wide variety of ingredients and flavours used means there are Caribbean dishes to appeal to all palates.

Different Caribbean islands also have slightly different cuisines or slightly different takes on the same dish. Of course, there are some famous dishes you won’t want to miss during your trip, such as conch fritters in the Bahamas, Antigua’s national dish, fungee and Jamaica’s world-famous jerk chicken.

Fascinating Culture

Each Caribbean Island has its own history and unique culture, including differing traditions, cuisine, festivals and music. There is a rich tradition of festivals in the Caribbean, celebrating everything from harvest to reggae to independence.

The culture in Antigua and Barbuda, for example, has been largely shaped by the country’s African heritage and British colonialism, whereas you’ll find Cuban culture rooted more deeply in Spanish influence and socialism.

The islands do share some common cultural traits. They all have a very laid-back lifestyle and a warm sense of hospitality with tourism being a significant source of income for the region.

Breathtaking Sunsets

There’s nothing quite as spectacular as a Caribbean sunset. Though you’ll need to be prepared! Caribbean sunsets are earlier than you might be used to, with the area being so close to the equator. Depending on the time of year that you’re visiting, the sun will set anytime between 5.30 and 8 pm. Sunsets in the Caribbean are widely regarded as amongst the best in the world, however, the closer you are to the equator the shorter they will last so get ready to be awed!

Escape To The Maynard in The Peak District is exactly what our girl, Rachel McAlley did. She fancied a little January weekend away, and the Peak District had been put on her radar by some friends. Only a couple of hours drive from her home in North Yorkshire she packed up her family in the car and set off for a few days in Derbyshire.

The Peak District National Park is extremely picturesque, filled with hills and green spaces for miles. It’s a great place for walkers and cyclists as it’s got some excellent bespoke walks and paths for bikes. There’s plenty to see and do, like visit Chatsworth House, or the quaint town of Bakewell.

Escape To The Maynard in The Peak District – The Maynard Aerial View

We stayed at the recently revamped The Maynard Hotel, in Grindleford, which is situated in the Hope Valley. A gorgeous 3* Hotel that is 165 years old, which offers boutique-style accommodation and has an excellent onsite restaurant.

Escape To The Maynard in The Peak District

After our drive, which took in Meadowhall Shopping Centre, and Sheffield city centre, we checked in at around 6pm and the bar and restaurant were already buzzing with drinkers and diners.

You’d be mistaken if you thought January was going to be quiet at The Maynard. The restaurant is currently offering customers 30% off all meals from the main menu (Monday to Saturday until 29th Feb excluding Valentine’s Day), and every table was busy enjoying this great offer.

Our family room was located on the 2nd floor, and we embarked up the steps with our luggage. The first-floor landing has the most beautiful ornate window, and the décor of the whole hotel is beautifully put together. Rustic and charming with some wonderful contemporary additions.

We had a huge room with loads of space, perfect for my family of three. With two separate bedrooms and a large bathroom, complete with massive bath we unpacked and descended the stairs to dinner in the restaurant.

After checking out the menu, we ordered the hummus and baba ganoush with artisan breads, twice-baked cheddar cheese souffle with Hartington stilton sauce, and wild mushroom soup as starters. Our mains included roasted vegetable and quinoa salad with satay chicken skewers, bacon and cheese burger in a pretzel bun with triple-cooked chips, and chicken supreme with dauphinoise potatoes, spinach and bacon cream sauce. The desserts we chose were, apple, cinnamon and golden syrup sponge pudding, pavlova with mulled plums and Chantilly cream, plus a scoop of orange sorbet.

It’s good to note here that almost everything on the menu is Gluten Free, or can be made GF. This is because the Managing Director, Rob Hattersley is coeliac, and the Executive Head Chef, Adrian Gagea and the Head Chef, Greg Robinson have adapted the dishes to be naturally GF. This is a great additional pull for many people as the food is all created fresh in-house and everything is completely adaptable for any kind of food intolerance.

Everything we ate was delicious, and sourced locally, but the outstanding dishes were the cheese soufflé (the best I have ever eaten), the homemade mushroom soup, the chicken supreme, and finally the pavlova with divine mulled plums. We were insanely full after each having 3-courses, stuffed you might even say!

The atmosphere in the restaurant was excellent, the staff were attentive and knowledgeable, and everyone was friendly including both staff and customers.

We ventured up the stairs (which were quite difficult after the amount of food we’d consumed), and literally collapsed on to the bed. After a little Saturday night TV, we fiddled with the futon (which wasn’t the most comfortable bed) for our daughter, and then climbed into our super comfy king-sized bed and happily slept until morning.

Escape To The Maynard in The Peak District

Up early and opening the hotel room curtains to see lots of sunshine over the Peak District hills, and plenty of walkers already out walking with their dogs. It was really nice to see people enjoying the area around the hotel taking a brisk walk on a Sunday morning.

Breakfast beckoned and we strolled down to the restaurant where we enjoyed a lovely, hearty full English, sausage sandwich, and salmon with scrambled eggs and cream cheese muffin. Plenty of coffee, tea, and juice later and we were ready to check out and head to our next port of call.

I must give an extra special mention to the outstanding black pudding that came with the full English, as my fiancé drooled over every mouthful and said it was the best he’d ever tasted.

The reception team were lovely to deal with, happy to answer any questions I had about the local area, and eager to ask about our meal the night before. It’s always a pleasure to tell the reception staff how amazing the food is, especially when it’s as good as it is at The Maynard.

The family room we stayed in was priced at around £135 for our family of three and included breakfast. Dinner was priced individually and our meal plus drinks came to £97, this included the 30% new year discount offer.

After leaving The Maynard we headed to Bakewell (just 15 minutes away) to pick up a famous Bakewell Tart to take home, and enjoyed an afternoon shopping and walking on the riverside before driving home to North Yorkshire.

Huge thanks to the entire team at The Maynard for making us feel extremely welcome, and the hospitality was second to none.

Here are the details to visit The Maynard to book a room in the hotel or a table in the restaurant.

In the world of bespoke wedding planning, where dreams are meticulously woven into reality, one name stands out as the visionary force behind unparalleled celebrations on the enchanting island of Ibiza — Lauren Kaycee.

As the founder of Hidden Treasures Ibiza, Lauren’s journey is a testament to the art of crafting unique and captivating wedding experiences. From her early days as a singer and performer to the heights of being recognized as the Best Bespoke Wedding Planner and Ibiza Wedding Industry Entrepreneur of the Year, Lauren’s story is a symphony of passion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to turning love stories into unforgettable moments.

Join us as we delve into the inspirations, challenges, and magical moments that have shaped Lauren’s path, making Hidden Treasures Ibiza a beacon of excellence in the world of destination weddings…

How did the idea of starting Hidden Treasures Ibiza come to you, and what inspired you to venture into the wedding planning industry?

I had been living in Ibiza and working in the wedding and event industry for 10 years already. I was a singer and performer in shows, restaurants, cabaret clubs, weddings, and private events. I progressed into creating shows and bands for such events, managing, directing, styling them, and working on the bookings in general.

I really wanted to concentrate on weddings and go into wedding planning, as I had seen things I loved and things that I knew I could do better! Everyone told me I was crazy and that the market was too competitive and high pressure, so it made me want to do it more!! I had a fire in me and knew something was about to unfold. The core of the wedding industry, of course, is being such a special part of someone’s day, and I longed to be the one creating such incredible moments.

Can you share a pivotal moment or experience that led you to specialise in Ibiza weddings?

As the founder, how do you personally contribute to making each wedding a unique and personalised experience for the couple? I still do lots of the planning for the main weddings. I make the consultation calls and filter the bookings, see which couples match our vibe and how we connect on the call. I find it so inspiring to delve into their dreams and ideas and get to know them a little, which then starts the journey of their entire experience.

I led the team in the design process, and in which suppliers will match their personalities best to enhance their day. We don’t do copy and paste – everything has to be curated individually, and I feel that the only way to hold this promise is to ensure I am involved.

What aspects of a couple’s personality or preferences do you find most inspiring when crafting their wedding experience?

I love a couple who have style and aren’t afraid to go with what they love, and what represents them, rather than going with what everyone else has, or what they think a wedding should be. You will always regret not doing the things you love most! The music they love, how they met, how they laugh together, all inspire me to want to turn their dreams into reality.

What is it about Ibiza that makes it the perfect destination for weddings in your perspective?

Ibiza has utter magic. You can be chic and classy on a rooftop sushi bar, get down and dirty in DC10, or lay in paradise on a beautiful beach. The gastronomy, cobbled streets of Dalt Vila, orange and olive groves in the rolling luscious hills, boutiques and cosmopolitan markets, and of course its hedonistic lifestyle that you can feel in your bones.

The golden hour and sunsets are like no others on earth, and spending even just a little time here leaves such an imprint, it draws you back time and time again.

How do you work with couples to create a bespoke concept for their wedding, and what does this process typically involve?

Really getting to know the couple is what it’s all about. For me, I truly mean it. I have to be a part of their life for 1 to 3 years, we go through the whole journey together of brainstorming, mood boards, and… we will talk about their favourite cuisine, maybe they had Italian food on their first date, so we will have the chef add it to the menu, or perhaps she drank too much tequila one night and he put her to bed, so we will suggest a shot of tequila at the speeches to add humour.

This can also mean suggesting sentimental ideas as a memorial to a loved one who has passed or focusing some moments on a special grandparent. All these small things that create a bespoke experience are to me, essential.

Can you give an example of a unique request that you successfully brought to life?

I had a celebrity couple who were an absolute dream to work with, but of course came with challenges regarding paparazzi. Dealing with press calls, planting decoys, and creating shields with plants and bamboo from the press were all details we will forever look back on, but the best request was the gravy fountain.

Good old British gravy, cascading in a piping hot fountain, where guests delighted in dipping fresh Yorkshire puddings and chunky homemade chips into, was brilliant to witness! I’m always here for a late-night snack, and what better than your absolute favourite food?! Your wedding should represent you and your personality, and that is what makes a wedding…

How did you assemble and mentor your team to ensure that Hidden Treasures Ibiza weddings run seamlessly?

What qualities do you look for when handpicking professionals to join your team? Wedding days are not light work. They are 18 hours on your feet, eating as you go, trying to stay hydrated, problem-solving, and with us as we have the styling aspect as we include all of the decoration, so heavy lifting and moving items round all day long is a huge part of the job.

I need my team to be physically capable and also super professional and composed when client-facing. I look for dedication, individuals that will go out their way to make it work no matter what, who can stay focused and get things done before they even need doing. It takes a special kind of person to work for Hidden Treasures- we are known for having the best team on the island and I am so proud of them all and the reputation we have all built together.

Being unique in including a team of stylists, how do you collaborate with couples to enhance and complement their individual styles?

We are super detail-focused, and our weddings are entirely flawless. It’s something I pride myself on 100%, so it all starts with the mood board. I ask them to create the board, and then we go through all the images, the colour palette, angles, and spaces. We look at what will work logistically considering the hot temperatures and timing of the sunset, and we then create mock-ups and bring them to our studio to play with fabrics, tableware, and flowers, we pull pieces from our showroom and bring in new or specially made items until they are happy with the look, and we are confident we can produce each element.

Share a memorable moment where the styling played a significant role in creating a magical atmosphere.

It is always magical when we flip the aesthetic from day to night. We move quickly and discreetly through the event lighting candles, turning up lighting, setting up the new evening areas with precision, so it seamlessly changes the ambiance to get ready for the party. The styling for me is my favourite part, and I am in love with the reaction on faces of the couple and their guests when they arrive to see their real-life mood board in front of their eyes. Every time is so heartwarming for me, I will never tire of this moment and feeling.

Can you elaborate on the exclusive service that involves discovering the best Ibiza wedding venues? What makes these venues special?

I take the wedding venue search very seriously, I am known for my honesty. It has to be this way to promise a flawless execution. A couple may think they know what they want or like, yet as we delve into the venue search it may become clear to me it isn’t right for them, and it is only with deep inside knowledge of the venues that I am able to advise them of the best match for them.

I always plan a styled shoot at a venue before I add it to my exclusive venues list. This allows me to see how they work, how they cope with all the moving parts, how they are as hosts and how the venue lends itself to logistics and layouts. I need to know for myself without relying on recommendations which may not be genuine. Then I know I can really talk about the venue, sell it and know all the ins and outs of every nook and cranny.

Share a favourite venue or location that you believe encapsulates the essence of a Hidden Treasures Ibiza wedding.

Ouch- I would be lynched if I picked a favourite!! I always say what one venue lacks another offers- some have all the dreamy aesthetics but the indoor space may be limited, and some have the most wonderful staff but the venue is not in the hottest location. They are all stunning, and have impeccable standards, and are glorious in their own right.

How do you ensure that the personal connection between Hidden Treasures Ibiza and the couples remains strong throughout the wedding planning journey?

Connection. We are always connected. We talk all the time, and I am always available. I am there for my couples entirely and completely, and they lean on me with personal issues as well as wedding issues. …… and I have past brides in my life now that I feel honoured to call friends. It’s not just a service I offer, it’s a lifestyle I embrace.

What inspired the idea of incorporating pre and post-wedding celebrations into your services?

The popularity now of hosting three-day-long celebrations is at an all-time high. Especially with a destination wedding. They are likely bringing guests over that will use this time as their yearly or family vacation, so not only do they want to offer more events but it is the best excuse to lengthen the celebrations! Planning the complete package gives us the ability to ensure a different feel for each celebration, where guests can enjoy multiple experiences on the day from nightclubs to yacht parties. We thrive when we get to show off the best Ibiza has to offer!

Can you share an unforgettable pre or post-wedding celebration that stands out in your memory?

Dancing in the DJ booth with Black coffee post wedding, champagne sprays at Nikki Beach, a BBQ on a luxury super yacht, a pregnancy announcement at a pre-wedding garden party… just so many wonderful memories and we cannot wait to create more in 2024!

What motivated you to create luxury elopement packages, and how do they differ from traditional wedding planning?

An elopement is just the couple, with sometimes their children or another couple as their guests. They are ever so intimate and just hit different. Of course, a few years ago with restrictions, they became more popular and were reinvented, but they are still going strong. It gives a couple a chance to spend a smaller amount but on the things they really love, A luxurious stay, a five-star chef and butler service, champagne, a stunning bouquet and designer dress, …it’s not for everyone of course, but it boils down to the vows, the moment of commitment… and is there anything more romantic than being alone in your very own bubble on a clifftop?

Share a romantic or intimate moment from one of your elopements that left a lasting impression.

I cry at every ceremony. Always have always will! But The one I truly broke down on was where the young son of the couple sobbed as he spoke during the ceremony, about how he witnessed so much love in the household between his parents, that it showed him how love was supposed to be, it made him so happy and proud to have such loving parents, and how he hoped he would have this kind of everlasting, undeniable love one day himself.

His words forever in my memory: “ I love how much you love each other and have taught me what love is” I think he was about 8 years old. Every single person sobbed. It still brings tears to my eyes now.

How does it feel to be recognised as the Best Bespoke Wedding Planner and Ibiza Wedding Industry Entrepreneur of the Year by The Global 100?

I was blown away, to be honest. I put my heart and soul into this business, built it from the ground up by myself, and was so overwhelmed when I heard the news. A proud moment is an understatement.

Can you recall a specific client testimonial that truly touched your heart?

All testimonials mean the world to me as I take each one so personally. One that stood out was “ “more importantly, thank you for all the things you did, that I will never even know about, to make our day unforgettable. I know there are many things, and I want you to know, it’s all felt”

How has global recognition, such as the LUXlife 2020 Global Wedding Awards, impacted the growth and reputation of Hidden Treasures Ibiza?

I think each recognition adds value to a business, It certainly gives you more motivation to push forward, which then leads to a much higher standard and in turn, becoming more in demand. I never take any mention, publication or post for granted, it is all valued and all felt.

What advice would you give to aspiring wedding planners looking to make a mark in the industry?

Funny you should ask…I am currently launching a coaching and mentoring business for new wedding pros, or businesses wanting to break into the wedding industry. The course will be launching in spring focusing primarily on Marketing and branding, building relationships, and client experience.

These are the core components that need full attention and dedication before anything else is even addressed. Then you can look at the things surrounding these subjects like where do you want to be, do you want to plan specific styles, and are you looking to offer styling or extra services.

The quote on your website is beautiful. Can you share the story or sentiment behind “When I first saw you, it took every ounce of me…”?

Isn’t it just beautiful! I saw it graffitied on a derelict building, completely misplaced and unexpected, and it took my breath away. I stood and read it about 10 times and then thought it would be the most wonderful phrase to hear from the love of your life, so I had to use it!

Talking of quotes, what’s your go-to quote when lacking motivation?

Not a quote but something I do when I feel stagnant or lack motivation: when I lack motivation I go to nature, The beach or the mountains, take some breaths and imagine I am the couple dancing around my wedding day, laughing with family and getting teary at the speeches I imagine what they would love and what they would remember. I go for a drive and listen to my favourite music full blast. I eat my favourite food and once I have given all my senses a little inspo, I feel back to myself again, and ready to create.

Our readers love to travel, what destination is at the top of your bucket list?

I am currently on a 5 week trip around Sri Lanka and Bali which has been on my list for a while! I love a mini European city break and Paris, believe it or not, is still on my list!, The Azores is high up there, as well as the Philippines.

Looking back since launching the business, is there anything you would do differently?

I learned by making mistakes and doing things the hard way, with no mentor and no team, just me. I wish I had given myself less pressure, and taken a breath once in a while, but if I had done anything differently, I wouldn’t be me, and I wouldn’t be where I am right now. Maybe a little more sleep, a little less worry, and a little more hydration!

Where can people follow you and find out more?

I run the Instagram myself as I love interacting with real people. I like to keep it as informative as possible, with tips and Q&As, and inspo, so the highlights are a great starting point. I love chatting to new followers too.

The need to discover new horizons often collides with the limits of our jam-packed schedules in a world that continues moving. Recent statistics show that 76% of Americans have visited at least one overseas destination. The number is inspiring for people planning a foreign trip this year.

You might be managing work, parental duties, or both, but the dream of traveling abroad can seem elusive. However, you need not worry. There is a way to circumvent time constraints and open the doors to international exploration. In this fast-moving age, where each second counts, tactical preparation and a dash of boldness are essential. Get ready to set off on a journey that defies time.

We will provide you with a passport that allows you to travel the world even when time appears to be on your side. So, be prepared to unlock the mysteries of effective and thrilling travel. We will turn your time constraints into obstacles for a worldwide odyssey.

Opt for direct flights

The initial trick up your sleeve is to choose direct flights when time is of the basic terms. Connecting flights may appear to be a less expensive choice. But they frequently cost precious hours used dealing with airports and extended layovers

Direct flights save time and reduce the possibility of hindered and missed connections. They are also far less stressful than connecting ones. You need to ensure that you arrive at your destination quickly and effortlessly. You can plan your direct flights through DirectFlights.com and reduce stress.

Minimize luggage

Packing light is an absolute game changer in the field of time-effective travel. You should accept the pared-down mantra and replace your bulky suitcase with a simplified carry-on. It saves you the trouble of waiting at baggage retrieval. It also allows for faster exits from the terminal.

Therefore, it sets the tone for a quick journey. Think about versatile clothing and necessary toiletries rather than stuffing everything in your suitcase. The best thing about a capsule wardrobe for a vacation is that you can look good effortlessly. It leaves non-essentials at home to reduce your load and speed up the traveling experience.

Choose a central accommodation

Your lodging location can make or break your time-sensitive excitement abroad when you have only a few days to explore your destination. You can choose a centralized hotel or Airbnb to reduce travel time between tourist attractions. Being in the center of everything that is happening saves you time on long commutes.

It also immerses you in the lively pulse of the place you are going. It allows you to make the most of every moment of your trip to a country you have never seen before. Check your options before going, and research the distance from the airport and other attractions in the location.

Streamline your itinerary

When time is of the essence during a foreign trip, planning and efficiency reign supreme. Avoid the urge to pack your schedule with every possible attraction. Instead, concentrate on a carefully curated list of must-see attractions at your destination. A well-planned schedule prevents travel tiredness. It also allows you to take in each experience and carry it home.

For example, you may be in a good place if traveling to a small destination like the Vatican. Check https://vatican-tickets.tours/ to outline an itinerary. Quality trumps quantity when it comes to picking a bucket list. You can create a more enhancing and feasible travel schedule by enlarging your options.

Focus on high-priority sights

You should set your sightseeing priorities based on your own tastes and cultural significance rather than tried and tested checklists. Determine your top priorities based on what interests you and schedule your time in accordance with it.

A customized strategy ensures that you do not miss the key points that make the trip memorable. It might be famous attractions, cultural attractions, or neighborhood attractions.

Pre-book tickets

Time is a valuable commodity, and standing in long lines is its arch-enemy. It can also stress you out when you want to do more in less time. You can pre-book your tickets for tourist attractions, galleries, and events to avoid the frustration of standing in line.

Reservations made via the Internet give you priority access. It will also allow you to plan your trips during off-peak hours. This further optimizes your timetable.

Use public transport

Consider utilizing public transportation to get a feel for the local rhythm. Taxis and rideshares are convenient. But they can also get stuck in traffic, wasting precious minutes during a time-sensitive trip abroad. Public transportation, on the other hand, is frequently a more rapid and absorbed way of exploring a city.

Trains, buses, and subway systems can be efficient because they follow a fixed timetable. Also, there is hardly a chance of taking a detour or getting stuck in traffic when using local transport. They can also provide insight into the routines of locals. It adds an element of culture to your journey. Not to mention, you can save a lot of money.

Opt for fewer locations

It may be tempting to visit multiple cities during an overseas trip. However, choosing fewer places to see can be a wise decision for time-limited travel. Paying attention to a few important points of interest allows you to immerse yourself in the culture of the area and make the most of your time at each location.

A more significant travel experience is ensured by prioritizing quality over the number of destinations. Take plenty of pictures and make memories in fewer locations rather than cramping everything and missing out on lifelong memories.

Conclusion

Traveling on time requires a combination of strategic decisions and an eagerness to prioritize experiences. You can turn a time-limited trip into an effortless and enriching adventure by keeping these tips in mind. Once you get the strategy right, traveling abroad will not be about the number of days or weeks. It will be about making the most of your time, regardless of how much you have at hand.

Embark on a candid journey with Eulanda Shead Osagiede, House of Coco travel and food culture writer, as she experiences the international launch of the new Lexus LBX Crossover Hybrid.

After multiple visits to Valencia over the years, I can enthusiastically declare it as one of those cities that effortlessly beckons you to return. Whether traversing its old-meets-new architecture, savouring its delectable cuisine, or immersing yourself in the vibrant cultural tapestry weaving together centuries of history with contemporary charm.

Upon receiving an invitation to test drive the new Lexus LBX Crossover Hybrid in Valencia as part of an international launch event, my response was an easy yes—especially if the experience included two things I love: the chance to savour heaping spoonfuls of paella in its birthplace and the joy of test driving a new luxury EV.

First Impressions

My initial encounter with the new Lexus LBX Crossover Hybrid came a day before hitting the road for a test drive. During a sit-down event, Lexus representatives introduced the LBX as a premium casual vehicle with luxury craftsmanship.

The self-charging hybrid vehicle is the smallest in their fleet and offers interior options spanning sixty-four colours, and for enthusiasts of premium sound, higher-grade models feature acoustic glass.

The LBX is the second model in the Lexus vehicle lineup to utilise the sophisticated, new bipolar NiMH battery—crafted to be a lighter weight, higher output resource for powering the car. I was particularly curious to experience the ‘Dynamic Radar Cruise Control’ and ‘lane assist.’

After perusing the floor model of the LBX and getting a feel for its exterior and interior design highlights, I joined my colleagues for a night of Valencian tapas and my coveted paella. It was undoubtedly the best way to fuel myself for the next day’s road trip.

City Centre Style Meets Nimble Responsiveness

The next morning, as I navigated Valencia’s bustling city centre, I marvelled at how the LBX seamlessly blended its sleek design with the historical-meets-contemporary rhythm of the city. Its agility and responsiveness were exactly what one would expect from a luxury car.

The lower hip point of the seat position makes for a sedan-like driving experience without compromising the external viewpoint for the driver. The interior console was prominent but not overwhelming; it flowed well with the other interior features of the car, and it’s smartphone integration process was fairly seamless.

As someone who has experienced the nuances of driving EVs from brands like Hyundai, Toyota, and Tesla, I’ve always found the initial process of training regenerative braking features to understand how I drive, and deploy brakes quite touch and go.

However, while navigating out of the city centre through rush hour traffic, I found that the regenerative braking in the LBX adapts to the driver very quickly. Rarely did I have any moments of frustration or surprise at its responsiveness.

Rural Explorations in a Sanctuary on Wheels

Leaving behind urban buzz, the LBX embraced rural farming areas with ease. I found myself navigating mountainous switchbacks and flat stretches of road with a serene calmness.

I’m not sure if this was due to the nimble driving experience, the fresh yet tranquil interior, or being surrounded by hectare after hectare of orange farms. I believe it may have been a unique combination of all features, as it was one of the most relaxing drives I’d undertaken in the last year.

Coastal Highways: The Open Road Experience

Venturing onto the coastal freeways, the efficiency of the LBX petrol engine and electric motor shone—delivering a sense of freedom on the open road. This stretch of freeway also provided the opportunity to better experience the ‘Dynamic Radar Cruise Control’ (DRCC), which Lexus says, “provides a wide range of inter-vehicle distance settings, so the driver can tailor performance to their personal preference.”

I observed that DRCC utilised overtaking prevention, a feature designed to help the vehicle maintain a regulated speed, preventing it from overtaking a slower vehicle on the incorrect side on a multi-lane road.

However, when pushed to higher speeds along the coast, the light, yet persistant presence of road noise challenged the tranquillity of the experience.

This prompted me to contemplate the balance between luxury and accessibility. Road noise and luxury vehicles don’t pair well. Could the LBX truly carve a niche by offering an open-road experience within the realm of accessible luxury?

Accessible Luxury in a Crowded Market

Having embarked on various multi-day road trips in electric vehicles, I understand the varying needs of tourists seeking exploration by road. In the accessible luxury marketplace—where premium features meet functionality—the LBX stands at a crossroads.

With a starting price point of £29,995 for the Urban model and topping out at £40,545 for the all-wheel-drive Takumi model, the LBX gives itself a strong competitive edge with consumers looking for a luxury vehicle within this price range.

However, its potential to redefine the segment lies not just in its sleek design and hybrid efficiency but in addressing the nuanced needs of road travellers, including the impact of road noise on the overall experience.

Does the New LBX Redefine Accessible Luxury?

In concluding my exploration of Valencia with the Lexus LBX Crossover Hybrid, it’s evident that this vehicle has the potential to redefine accessible luxury.

Skilfully balancing style, sustainability, and comfort, the LBX emerges as a robust option for those entering the Lexus ecosystem. Additionally, it proves to be a viable choice for current Lexus owners seeking a downsized, yet sophisticated, vehicle.

The LBX prompts consideration of how its nuanced features, including the bipolar battery, nimble driving capabilities, and luxury customisation options, could set it apart in a crowded market. Tailored to meet the discerning needs of urban and rural driving enthusiasts, the LBX stands as a practical yet stylish solution for those in search of accessible luxury on their journeys.

The Maldives has been on my bucket list for a while so when I received an invite to visit not one, but two prestigious resorts in the heart of the Indian Ocean, I jumped at the chance.  It didn’t disappoint, it’s one endless picture postcard with dusky pink and peach hazed sunsets, overwater hammocks and endless blue skies.  What I didn’t expect was for the place to touch my soul and stir up so many emotions. With its sun-kissed beaches and turquoise waters, it’s not just a vacation destination but a soul-soothing haven for resetting and recharging.

From the moment I arrived at Gili Lankanfushi I felt a mental shift.  This award-winning eco-resort is a destination within a destination.  With just 45 sumptuous overwater villas, including seven Crusoe Residences and The Private Reserve, it feels intimate and exclusive.    Their Robinson Crusoe, barefoot luxury philosophy extends to all guests having a dedicated Mr or Ms Friday butler service, ensuring you have everything you need.  The service here is immaculate, it’s so discreet it’s invisible.  At one point during my stay, I did wonder if the staff had been given ninja research training because the personal touch is second to none, from the bar tender knowing your favourite drink to a personalised breakfast menu.

Post 16 hours of travel I needed a boost, and an Integrative Massage with visiting wellness practitioner, Virginie Claret was welcomed.  Virginie is a Reiki Master with over 15 years’ experience in massage, specialising in energy healing.  I’m well versed when it comes to massages having been fortunate as Wellness Editor, to road test many, so I don’t say this lightly when I say it was the best massage I have had.  Virginie has healing hands.  Focussing on the meridian lines of the body she works on balancing your energy, any blockages and restoring peace.   Within minutes I had dissolved into the bed, any post flight tension was lifted as I went into a deep state of relaxation.  Six weeks prior to traveling I had suffered a bout of Covid and as a result had ongoing chest pains and a persistent cough.  I was astounded when following my treatment with Virginie the cough stopped and I no longer had chest pains.  It may have been a coincidence, or the sunshine and the break I needed, either way I felt a lot better.

Meera spa is a holistic haven set on a secluded bay away from the villas. Over-water treatment rooms are airy and light, with expansive views and sea breezes.  Glass bottom floors allow you to catch views of the marine life while experiencing a relaxing massage.

The spa offers a selection of Ayruvedic treatments. This 5,000-year-old alternative medicine system is designed to correct imbalances in the mind and body. With a dedicated champa for Ayruvedic treatments, that use local herbs you can go on a one-day personalised Ayurvedic wellness journey or let the therapists recommend something bespoke to restore your body, mind and spirit.  I experienced a full body massage using a warm herbal poultice massage, this hits different to a regular massage and quickly soothes any aches.  The warm oils and herbs penetrate the skin to help increase blood circulation and detoxification.  The therapist works her magic and I float out of the spa and back to my villa.

What sets Gili Lankanfushi apart is not just the breathtaking scenery but the curated wellness experiences that cater to the body, mind, and soul. As the day unfolds you might find yourself participating in mindfulness workshops, guided meditation sessions, or even indulging in a moment of peace, barefoot in the soft white sand, soaking up the unparalleled views.  One of the standout features is the presence of visiting practitioners. These experts in holistic wellbeing are renowned in their field and host curated programmes providing guests with the opportunity to design their own wellness plan. Gili is a stunning, serene sanctuary that scoops you up and envelopes you in tranquillity and love.  You arrive a guest and leave as family.

Just a 45-minute sea plane ride from Male is Six Senses, Laamu.  Here wellbeing takes centre stage and is integrated into your overall stay from the food you eat, to your sleep hygiene and activities you experience. My wellness journey started a few weeks prior to travel when I received a digital package with a complimentary jet lag plan, journal and a questionnaire on my preferences for room scents, pillows and the option to request additional toiletries, yoga mat and eye mask.

On arrival you receive a warm welcome on the jetty from the team and your very own Guest Experience Maker or GEM.  Hamza, my GEM was on hand the whole stay, assisting with dinner reservations and experiences.  Laamu is a big, spacious resort offering plenty of choice for food and drink as well as activities, so you’ll never be bored.

I checked into one of the over water villas with large split-level decks, an infinity pool and roof terrace, perfect for yoga and stretching.  From the decking you can access the ocean, where avid snorkellers can spot black tipped sharks, turtles, mantas, and some of the prettiest marine life.  Inside, the spacious interior has been designed to bring the outside in, using natural fabrics and lots of wood.  There’s an outdoor shower that looks over the ocean, but the show piece is the glass bottom bathtub.  Indulge in the views and watch the fish swim below while you soak in the tub.

Six Senses is synonymous with wellbeing and the resort offers a layered approach to wellness, combining some of the best holistic treatments, with the healing benefits of the environment and expert knowledge of their spa team to create a bespoke programme.  I started with a non-invasive health screening, which measures your key physiological biomarkers. I was strapped to a couple of machines and within 15 minutes, following some simple exercises and instructions I had my results.  The screening highlighted high dopamine and endorphin levels and low serotonin which reflects my lifestyle.  As a regular gym goer, I wasn’t surprised my endorphins were high.  Tech overload and my ongoing need to hit targets and results exposed the high dopamine levels and a bout of poor sleep coupled with a busy period at work was no doubt a factor in my low serotonin.  It was an opportunity to step back and make a few changes.  The Maldives is the ideal destination to do this, and I spent the next couple of days thinking of small adjustments I could make to be a little gentler with myself. The great thing about Six Senses is they can design a wellness program based on your results and goals. My wellness therapist recommended some dietary adjustments to boost my serotonin and ideas to support my sleep and switch off.

After a restful sleep, I start my day with a Pilates class surrounded by the soothing sounds of the ocean.  There are various classes available at the resort including Aerial Yoga, Yoga Nidra meditation and Thai Chi, all gentle and restorative.

My GEM booked me into the resort’s award-winning spa for a tailor-made, therapeutic full body and scalp massage including face reflexology. The spa makes full use of the outdoor space with uniquely designed treatment ‘nests’ dotted along the beach or among the lush landscape.  Once I was ensconced in my nest, sound bowls and aromatherapy scents helped me tune out.  Around 15 minutes into my massage I had fallen asleep, a sign I am calm and at peace.  Following 60 minutes of utter bliss, I retreat to the juice bar for a gut soothing shot and views of the beach.

There’s a unique energy at Six Senses, that resonates with the rhythm of the ocean and the pulse of nature. It’s a place where time seems to stand still, allowing you to press pause on the chaos of everyday life and focus on the simple joy of being. With its powder white beaches and crystal-clear ocean, It’s canvas for self-discovery and renewal.

Nightly rates at Gili Lankanfushi start from £1,397/$1,722 based on two adults sharing a Villa Suite with breakfast included. For more information or to book please visit Gili Lankanfushi

For more information on bookings at Six Senses, Laamu please contact reservations-maldives@sixsenses.com or visit the website
