On 11 December, guests will depart Southampton to spend 10 nights onboard P&O Cruises’ Adonia. Highlights of the itinerary include the capital of Denmark; Copenhagen, where the Christmas market in the city’s Tivoli Gardens includes more than 50 stalls selling traditional gifts, decorations, hot drinks, sweets and delicious food. Live reindeer also add to the Christmas feel. Guests will also have the chance to explore Germany’s second largest city, Hamburg. Here the stunning lights and colours of the Christmas markets are enhanced by their reflection in the River Elbe. Stalls boast a range of homemade arts and craft, including cookies from the bakers of Aachen and gingerbread from Nuremburg. Further stops include Amsterdam, the Netherlands and Kiel Canal, Germany.

Four nights with P&O Cruises’ Oceana: Amsterdam and Bruges – from £379 per person


Departing 13 December from Southampton, guests will spend four nights onboard P&O Cruises’ Oceana which has an impressive atrium, Italian restaurant from acclaimed chef Marco Pierre White and champagne bar. The first port of call is the Dutch capital of Amsterdam where the ice rink and olliebollen (Dutch doughnuts made with raisins and dusted with powder sugar) food stands can be found at Leidseplein from early November until mid-January. The must-see floating Bloemenmarkt (flower market) is bursting with Christmas trees of all shapes and sizes. Furthermore, the adjacent Christmas Palace is home to a unique selection of festive goods and is the perfect place to pick up small gifts. Additional highlights include the fairytale Belgian city of Bruges where the photogenic market squares become adorned with little wooden chalets selling traditional arts and crafts.

Four nights onboard Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth: Amsterdam only – from £319 per person


Departing 19 December from Southampton, guests will enjoy four nights onboard Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth on a return voyage to the Dutch capital of Amsterdam. Guests will spend two nights in Amsterdam, affording ample opportunity to explore the city’s 26 neighbourhood markets. Must visits include the floating Bloemenmarkt (flower market) bursting with Christmas trees of all shapes and sizes and the adjacent Christmas Palace, Amsterdam’s unique emporium of festive goodies open all year round. Dam Square is also worth a visit where a Christmas tree, traditionally grown in the German Ardennes, soars 20 metres into the Amsterdam sky and is decorated with four kilometres of Christmas lights.
