Coco Business Inspiration : Marquise Bridal

Here at House of Coco we are forever talking to different #Girlbosses and it has become a common thread that most of them stumble across their business idea during a personal experience. That is certainly the case for Megan, founder of Marquise Bridal, who found a gap in the market whilst shopping for her wedding dress.

Here, she tells us more…

When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
Like how a lot of designers in the wedding industry start, I was shopping for my own gown and found a significant gap in the market for chic bridal wear paired with luxury fabrics. It essentially stemmed from frustration and evolved into a slow burning passion.

Talk me through the Marquise Bridal business operation?
I personally design all of the looks for Marquise Bridal, and I manage the companies branding, retail expansion and private clients. I have recently employed a Senior Operations Manager who manages production, pattern making, scheduling and my team of dressmakers. I have invested a lot of time building a strong team of highly skilled artisans who each bring to the table their own strengths. It’s a very close knit group of dedicated, passionate creatives.


If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?
I am very passionate and enthusiastic when I set out to do something. This can sometimes lead me to try and do too many things at once with a scattered effect. If I had my time again I would choose a more pragmatic approach and (try) to have a little more patience.

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
Finding the right talent to bring my creations to life, and finding people who are as passionate about my brand as I am. This is why I have such a great appreciation for my current team.

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
I used to work in I.T

2016 is almost over, where do you plan on taking the brand in 2017?
By the end of 2016 I would have added several more local, and International, stockists. It has taken a lot of brand refinement, reflection and a lot of door knocking to get where I am and I feel that going into 2017 I now have weight behind the Marquise Bridal brand that should see doors open (hopefully) a little easier.

To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
British Vogue what quite surreal. I remember reading the email at 2am in the morning whilst I was feeding my newborn, and I didn’t finish the email because I put it down to spam. It actually took me a few days to re-read it and believe it was real.

Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?

Three beauty products you can’t leave the house without?
Sunscreen, Nars Foundation, Armani Prive Rose D’Arabie perfume

Style means….?
Style is a presence, it is not what you are wearing, but how you are wearing it.

Best thing about London to you?
Its dynamic mix of cultures

If you had to, what piece of clothing from your wardrobe would you wear everyday?
Well worn black skinny jeans

Favourite love song?
Groovy Kind of Love – Phil Collins. (Don’t judge me)

Best place for a coffee?
Melbourne, Australia

Most memorable piece of advice given to you?
You will keep being thrown the same lessons in life until you start learning from them. So take notice and move on.

Whisky Sours

If you could spent 24 hours in anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Anywhere where my two boys and my Husband are. Hopefully they are somewhere near Santa Monica in the middle of Spring.

In future, how do you plan on expanding the company?
Bridal wear is evolving rapidly. Styles that were selling out a year ago are no longer relevant thanks to image heavy social media like Instagram. I want to build a collaborative brand that pushes boundaries and is at the forefront of the fast paced bridal industry.
