Coco Business Inspiration : AVRILLO

AVRILLO stands for exclusive, stylish and partially hand-made leather bags and accessories that are only made in Germany. A brand founded by Sandra Leibner, a self taught designer who wants to revolutionise the world of handbags.

Here, she took some time our of her busy schedule to chat to us at House of Coco about her plans for the brand and so much more…

Tell us a bit about your journey with AVRILLO to getting where you are today?
I did not find the right bag for me on the market, so I created it myself without any professional experience. I bought a sewing machine and taught myself how to sew and sewed my first bag in the bag, ready for all occasions at all times. Out of this process emerged AVRILLO. Since 2011 the supply of AVRILLO has changed. First I wanted to sell my bags only online because I wasn`t able to give up my main job. A few months later customers ask for accessories to the AVRILLO bag, so I created the bracelets Yara and offered them also on fairs and arts and craft markets. AVRILLO offers now a complete package of complementary leatherwear including handbags, shopper and various accessories (bracelets and belts) manufactured out of cowhide and salmon leather. Since the beginning of this year AVRILLO has become my main job and I`m glad to have preferred to decide to dedicate my resources to developing AVRILLO.

What has been your highlight since launching the brand?
There are many highlights. Every launch of a new AVRILLO product is a highlight to me. Especially if the customers like the new creations, if they have a good feeling wearing them and have an ideal companion with the AVRILLO bag, then it is a delightful response for me.

Describe the brand in 3 words?
Classic, sporty and self-confident

Who is responsible for what role?
At the moment I am responsible for almost everything. But I have a support for my online shop and the professional product photos. And because I don`t have the right machines to sew leather, a little leather manufacturer in Germany is crafting the AVRILLO collection out of cowhide and salmon leather for me.

How do you keep personal and work life separate?
It is not so easy, because I´m almost always on the move: being on fairs, arts and crafts markets, presenting my collection to retailers…, but for example I try to have enough time to do sports (gym and Kick-Thai-Boxing) to counterbalance work.

It is fascinating to see how differently the customers of AVRILLO are. To me it`s extremely important, that the customers enjoying their AVRILLO bag or AVRILLO bracelet. I am pleased about every satisfied customer.

Tell us what a typical day in your life looks like?
Every day is different. For example I have to set dates for my sales force, to do the last work stages in the manufacture of the bracelets, to edit open orders, to prepare a fair or do all of my admin.

Who/what inspires you?
On fairs or arts and crafts markets I get into contact with many people, so I listen what they want, what they expect and what is important to them.

What are your plans for the brand in the rest of 2016?
In the rest of 2016 I plan a new belt collection. And of course the goal is to make AVRILLO more widely known.

Did you always know that one day you would be a #girlboss?
I didn`t know. When I was studying (long time ago!), I thought that it would be fascinating to create your own product and sell it to customers. As you see it took some time from a bit vision to realize AVRILLO.

If there’s one #girlboss activity you could get better at, what would it be?
Remembering to search for support, if you know that be other could do something better than me.

For people aspiring to run their own company, what advice would you give?
You have to be convinced of your own product.

Ask and listen what other people do to run their own company and try to transfer it for your own company.

There is always more than one way to reach the target. Stay focused.
