They believe the best gestures must be made up of the best chocolate. Their suppliers source their chocolate ethically, and process their cocoa with great care and expertise. The result is a luxury Belgian milk chocolate that is smooth, silky and simply delicious.
We couldn’t wait to find out more about what goes on behind the scenes so Dicky, the founder of the brand, spent some time with #TeamCoco to tell us more…
When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
My mum once sent me some chocolate in the post as I travelled through Africa on a bike. The package failed to reach me in Sudan, so it was forwarded on via Kenya, Malawi and finally to South Africa, reaching me some 4 months after it was shipped. It’s fair to say the chocolate had seen better days, but it dawned on me that sometimes it’s the small gestures that make all the difference. So I set about building a company that enable people to make better gestures, by personalising chocolate and sending it in the post. Morse Toad Messaging was launched in February 2015.
What’s your background?
I used to work in property and renewable energy, but I was always looking for something to indulge my more creative side.
How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?
I have one part time member of staff.
If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?
I’ve learnt a million lessons on the way, but probably the one I would love to take back would be investing in too much stock, that turned out to be not ideal.
What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
The hardest part is doing everything at once. Fortunately I am partnered with Not On The High Street, so I have had constant sales while I work on building my own website and online presence.
Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
I have different coloured eyes.
2016 is here, where do you plan on taking the brand?
I plan on expanding my products into a wider range of flavours and message ideas.
To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
How people have used the product. I had my own expectations of what people might say, and those have easily been surpassed. Love letters, jokes, commiserations, even some totally random ones. “I Love You, I’m Sorry, Please Forgive Me” – What was the story behind that message? Or “Sorry Your Boss Is A Tw*t” was another good one.
Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?
Three beauty products you can’t leave the house without?
As a man, I tend to keep my beauty natural.

Best thing about London to you?
The diversity of people and places.
Statement shoe or statement bag?
If you had to, what piece of clothing from your wardrobe would you wear everyday?
Boxer shorts……but only if I had to.

Most memorable piece of advice given to you?
Take it slowly. Don’t run before you can walk.

If you could spent 24 hours in anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Any mountains with deep snow and a set of skis.
In future, how do you plan on expanding the company?
Morse Toad is going to become the alternative messaging service for all the gestures you want to make to your friends and family, all delivered via the letterbox. We are all about the tangible letterbox friendly gifts that can bring a bit a smile to people’s faces, or even turned into gold. We have a wealth of ideas we will introduce in the coming years.
