Changing up your look isn’t something that is achieved through just clothing and makeup, it can also extend to your hair style and color. With fall officially upon us, it seems now is the time that people start thinking about their new fall/winter look, which often includes changes to your hairstyle.

If you’ve had your hair short for a while, and you’re ready to start growing it in, the process can seem slow and frustrating. You will need to go through stages where your hair is at that in-between length where you really can’t do much with it other than wait it out. Or is that the only solution? Rather than suffer through those in-between stages that test your patience, here are some tips you can use that will help you grow out your hair in a much less frustrating way.

Start by Feeding Your Hair
While you may not think there is much you can do to make your hair grow faster and stronger, that’s actually not the case at all. Did you know that you can “feed” your hair and give it the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and grow faster? Keeping your scalp nourished will promote hair growth and this can be done with supplements. Make sure you are getting enough biotin, iron, vitamin B, and omega-3 each and every day.

Put the Heat Styling Tools Away
As you grow your hair, the goal is to keep it as healthy as possible. One of the most damaging things you can do to your hair is heat style it, so now is the time to put those tools away. Things such as the blow dryer, flat iron, and curling wand are all incredibly harmful to your locks. It’s best to let your hair air dry and braid it while it’s wet to give it that natural bounce and wave.

Have Layers Added
Rather than letting it all grow in at one length, which can look heavy and not very stylish, have some layers cut into your hair. Long layers will help to give it style and shape, and even give the illusion that it’s longer than it actually is. A bang or fringe can also help keep things under control as it grows.

Even though you may think that regular haircuts are counter-productive, this isn’t the case at all. You want to be sure you are keeping your hair healthy, and that means getting regular trims every six to eight weeks.

Make Use of Hair Masks
Leave-in hair masks are another trick that helps to keep your locks looking healthy and promotes hair growth. You can either make your own at home, or purchase a deep conditioning mask/treatment.

Consider Hair Extensions
If you’re the type of person that just doesn’t have patience and can’t wait to grow it out, or maybe you need to look polished and can’t afford to go through that in-between stage, then cheap extensions could be the best solution.

There are many different styles available including micro loop, clip in, stick in, and more. Hair extensions will give you the length that you are aiming for, plus volume and style. What’s great is that they aren’t permanent, so you can use them until your real hair gets to the length you are aiming for.

If you want them to look natural, and want to be able to style them, then you’ll want to use human hair extensions rather than synthetic. These are so real looking that they are undetectable to anyone. People will just assume you’ve been growing your hair.

Make Use of Fun Accessories
When all else fails and you’re just having one of those really bad hair days, go ahead and have fun with accessories. Things such as clips, pins, barrettes, head-bands, and even hats can help you get past that dreaded bad hair day. You’ll just come off as stylish and trendy rather than frustrated with your hair.

Consider Changing Your Pillowcase
One final tip has to do with your pillowcase. Did you know that tossing and turning on your pillow all night can be damaging to your hair? This can result in spilt ends and breakage, which will slow down the process of growing it out. A good tip is to invest in a silk pillowcase that won’t catch and tangle your hair.

Take the Frustration Out of It
Growing your hair out tends to be a rather long and frustrating process, but by following these tips, it will seem much more tolerable.
