I’m sure most of us can say that we have never spent quite as much time at home before! As you look around your home – whether that be a room in a shared house, a box room back at your parents’ or your own place – it’s hard to fight the desire to change things up, especially as spring approaches.

Today we’re catching up with the founders of arkitaip, run by mother-daughter duo Michi and Lea Wieser, about their Casita home capsule collection that extends your sustainable choices outside of your wardrobe, into your home.

One thing 2020 has taught me is to be less hard on myself – so my motto for the year ahead is to embrace life as it comes!

Michi, arkitaip

HOC: What led you to start a sustainable homeware brand?

Michi: Everything started with my mother’s incredible handcrafting skills (she’s amazing at knitting and crocheting!) which have taught me how much time and energy go into creating garments. And the more I learned about the detrimental effects the fashion industry has on the environment, the more I wanted to do something about it – so we launched arkitaip. arkitaip is about living a conscious lifestyle – and we think that living consciously goes beyond owning a sustainable wardrobe: it means to approach sustainability in the most holistic way possible which is why we launched our homeware range arkitaip casita.

HOC: How do you select who to collaborate with?

Michi: We only collaborate with independent brands or creatives who share the same ethos in terms of sustainability and the quality of their pieces. To us, it’s super important that we’re on the same wavelength as the people we work with, so very often our collabs turn into friendships, making the creative process even more fun!

HOC: What plans do you have for the year ahead to help yourselves become ‘the best versions of yourselves’?

Michi: One thing 2020 has taught me is to be less hard on myself – so my motto for the year ahead is to embrace life as it comes!

HOC: If a reader was after a lower-cost home ‘pick me up’, what would be your top recommendation?

Michi: I love our matches from our most recent collaboration with the French artist Laetitia Rouget … because they make you see the light at the end of the tunnel!
