#CocoOnTour : 5 Days, 5 Cities – Day 4 London

At House of Coco we love a good adventure and it doesn’t take much persuading to get us out and about doing something spontaneous. We know that you lovely millennials crave a good adventure too and sometimes that doesn’t have to mean booking a flight and hopping overseas, you can have a lot of fun in the UK too.

This week our Editor-in-Chief Laura Bartlett has teamed up with Vauxhall to go on a 5 day UK tour where she plans to showcase all of the fun you can have in Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool, London and Leeds. She is going to be enjoying the ride in the brand new Vauxhall Adam, sightseeing in each city for 24 hours, showcasing where to eat, sleep and basically proving that there is a lot of fun to be had on your doorstep. Here, she tells us more…

Day 4 : London

I’m a typical northerner, after a few days in London the overwhelming, armpit closeness and extreme busyness on the tube always becomes too much for me to bear and I can never wait to get back up north. When I come to London I do always have a great time but after a few days I definitely crave the greenery of Yorkshire. This time, I was in the city for less than 24 hours for day 4 of the tour where I was meeting up with more of #TeamCoco writers.

I was staying at The Bermondsey Square Hotel,  located in the heart of one of London’s most vibrant and creative villages. When I arrived it was mid afternoon and the hotel looked brand new. I quickly spotted all of the things on offer right on the doorstep of the hotel from the weekly antiques market right outside the hotel door, a fantastic indie cinema ten steps away and hosts of boutique shops and restaurants moments away, there is an abundance of things to do and see in the local area.

My favourite thing about arriving at this hotel was the drive over Tower Bridge, the sun was just setting over London and the views were magical. I think the best thing about the tour this week has been really taking in the beauty of the UK and all of the gorgeous scenery we have on offer.

Anyway, I digress. Back to the hotel – I checked in to my room and it was rare to find (in London) that I had my own private balcony area overlooking the Square. The room was average sized but perfectly formed and it had a newness to it.

After checking out all the things that the room had to offer it was time for the team to arrive and we were all catching up in the hotels meeting room, which was perfect. Spacious, with all the mod cons you need to catch up with a bunch of inspiring women.

In true creative catch up style, we had food delivered. We opted for the new Italian brand on the block, GoDo. This brand started out when Amin and Simone, GODO founders, stared to feel that it was a real hassle to find affordable but premium quality food in the city. They were bored of  the same mediocre places, eating junk or – worse – tasteless ‘health’ food. Meals felt dreary and routine, nothing like the escape they craved. So over lunch one day in their hometown, Milan, they imagined another way: their favourite Italian comfort food, ordered in two taps, cooked with the best artisan produce by a Michelin-star chef, delivered at the perfect temperature in custom-made glassware, presented by an elegant Italian on a Vespa, all for the price of a regular takeaway. And a year later, GODO was born. Now, when they said ‘delivered by an ‘elegant Italian’ they weren’t lying! The delivery driver was as dishy as the food and it caught us off guard slightly as we tried to get back on track with our ‘work’ conversations.

The evening went by in a flash and it was soon time to retire to bed. I think all of the mileage I had done this week totally caught up with me as I was out like a light. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to check out the breakfast offering at the hotel as I had to be up at 6am and back on the road to get on with day 5 of the trip to Leeds.
