This year was hard on us travel and life experience aficionados. No more Sunday brunches and mimosas, no souvenir hunting in exotic locations, no seeking a hole-in-the-wall boutique shop. Instead, we were home most of the time at home with family and pets.

And if you’re a cat owner, you know they are wondering why their humans are lounging around the house so much. Likewise, on the human side, we exhibited more cat-like behavior this year than ever. That is, we practiced impeccable hygiene, constant washing, and social distancing!

So now that we have perspective on their life, don’t you want to replace some of their stuff – toys, furniture, bathroom, kitchen – so it makes them live better and that matches your personal style? That’s why in this article, we discuss alternatives to traditional cat accessories that will excite style junkies.

Cat Trees

Any cat household ought to have a cat tree or cat structure. Contrary to popular belief, cat trees are not luxuries. Or they should not be, anyway. Cat trees offer essential benefits to a cat’s welfare, psychology, and physiological need to scratch. A house without a cat tree will likely have destroyed carpet and furniture, not to mention drapes.

But most of them don’t look great in a room with contemporary furniture. The traditional carpet and design scream vintage (bad vintage) and better matches a room with floral wallpaper.

Thankfully, you can find Bauhaus-inspired, clean and modern cat trees on the market today. They rock lots of right angles, smooth woods, and no plushy carpet. They’re affordable too. But some brands resemble contemporary sculpture art and have price tags to match.

Water Fountains and Food Dishes

Let’s upgrade Fluffy’s dining and drinking set! The perfect food bowl and drinking device is surprisingly complex and comes down to your cat’s individual preferences. But the main idea to keep in mind for your cat dishes is the same for you: cleanliness.

The cleanest materials for eating and drinking dishes are stainless steel, glass, and porcelain. All of these is an upgrade from plastic, which can harbor bacteria and may leech out dangerous chemicals that can harm your cat. Stainless steel, porcelain, and steel are also super easy to clean after use and don’t hold odors

But the final thing is…these materials look way cooler than cheap plastic. I recommend a wide stainless steel cat food bowl and a matching stainless steel circulating water fountain with a filter. Many models like this are available today, and are great for your cat’s health. Not to mention they match the stainless on your refrigerator and oven too.

Litter Boxes

You care about your bathroom. So does your kitty. You want fresh air, an inviting spa tub, and natural stone like marble or travertine. She wants a clean, odor-free litter box that is easy access. Your bathroom can look nice. But how can we make a litter box look cute?

Relax, because on the market today are a multitude of litter box options. And all of them deviate from the wide open litter pan. Consider a top entry litter box. Brands offer bins in stylish colors and shapes, with a lid and hole on top. Cats jump on the lid and into the hole, then jump out after they’re done. This type of box prevents odors and litter dust, too. And they seem more like modern office trash cans rather than litter boxes.

Check out hidden litter boxes and litter box enclosures too. Hidden boxes are potted plants or other structures that hide litter within itself. Litter box enclosures are actual cabinets or pieces of furniture where you can put a separate litter box in it. Like real furniture, they come in all styles, like modern and contemporary.

Toys

Cat toys stimulate your cats intellectually and provide an avenue for exercise. A cat with excess energy will not be very nice and probably wreck your house. Owners must engage their cats with games like chase-the-feather or catch-the-slithering snake. These are cheap toys and you should have a few of these already.

But for a deluxe play and exercise experience for your cat, check out a cat wheel. These are large cylinders that spin upright as your cat runs inside, Think of a giant hamster wheel and you have the idea. It is so much fun and enriching for your cat, especially if you have a super lithe, athletic cat breed like a Bengal or Abbysinian. If your cat is more chilled, like a Maine Coon or Ragdoll, you would need to train them up, but the benefits are totally worth it.

In Closing

All of the above upgrades to your cat’s lifestyle will result in a happier pet and happy you. In 2021, people will come over and admire the luxurious looking sculpture in your living room, not realizing it is a cat condo. They sit on the couch next to a plant, that is actually a litter box. Your cat will be content, and you ultimately have a nicer looking space to entertain and live life again.
