Creative Spotlight : Endre Penovac

Endre Penovac was born in 1956 in Tornjoš. He finished from the Academy of fine arts in Novi Sad and from here he worked as an independent artist.

Here he tells us more about his journey…

What is your background?
From the teacher’s words of praise in the kindergarden to the painting department of the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad.

If you could start  your career again would you do anything differently?
I would start to learn a language earlier, especially English.

What is the hardest challange you have faced since you started your career?
My first big format watercolor (100×140 cm) and to top it all off I had to deliver it with a strict deadline.

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know.
I make brandy for my family. From harvesting the fruit to the distillation.

Which city do you feel more at home, London, Paris or New York?
To answer this I would need to go just to have the experience. I would start with New York.

If you had to, what piece of clothing from your gardrobe would you wear every day?
My Armani suit – that doesn’t exist.

Kokai Gyuri 3

Favourite love song?
Michel Legrand Summer of 42.

Best place for a coffee?
In my studio, in front of half-done artwork.

Most memorable piece of advice given to you?
A dear friend of mine told me at the age of  90 ”If only I could be 80 years old again…”

Guilty pleasure?
That can’t be possible. Because what is guilty for the body, it is good for the soul, and vice versa.

If you could spent 24 hours in anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would like to spend a day at the most unbearable place. At the Arctic circle, in the desert, among sharks. I would like to spend more then 24 hours in so many beautiful places
