Jessie Pitt is a contemporary landscape artist whose main focus is mountains which could be due to her living in mountainous areas between Australia and Austria for many years. Here, Jessie spent some time away from her art to tell us more about her passion, plans for the future and more…

When did you launch your artist career and what was the reason behind it?
I am not really sure there was a beginning. Sometime things just are. I grew up in a creative environment so without a doubt this has influenced me to become an artist.

Whats your background?
I was born in Melbourne, Australia to an Australian mother and an English father.

We spent a lot of times outdoors, skiing, hiking, camping as well as traveling a lot. We traveled to England to visit Dad’s family every few years.

I studied visual art after school, which involved drawing, sculpture, printmaking, painting, design, photography. I actually majored in printmaking but I create mixed media artworks that is a mixture of drawing and painting in one artwork. I have since then exhibited in places such as Sydney, Austria, Italy, Paris and have works in private collections spanning numerous countries in Europe including also Australia, America.

I am also a ski instructor, trainer and backcountry ski guide. This has definitely influenced me in relation to my subject matter as an artist.

How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?
Just me.

If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?
Not that I can think of. If I changed something in the past, I do not think I would be doing what I do now. Life is a journey and it is this journey which influences the paths you take.

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
To continue to build up my reputation as an artist internationally. To be able to succeed as a professional artist and to be able to live consistently from my art. It can be a long journey.

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
I am also a poet.

2017 is here, where do you plan on taking your art?
I have an endless amount of inspiration at the moment, so I will continue to work with this and see where it will lead me creatively.

I have a solo exhibition in Austria until the end of August. And I have another exhibition coming up near Christmas.

So lots of time in the studio.

To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
The heart-warming reactions I receive when people see my artworks, I love it when my artwork speaks to people’s souls, and emotions.

Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?
London

Style means?
Try to be timeless.

Best thing about London to you?
The history and cultural aspects.

If you had to, what piece of clothing from your wardrobe would you wear everyday?

In summer, two dresses made by my sister and bare feet.
