Vincent and Julian are the creative and managing directors behind Andrew & Cole, a brand that was born after a summer vacation in Ibiza and in Nassau Bahamas. It was here that Vincent Sidney Cole Stadelhofer and Julian Andrew Schaffner had the vision of creating their own ocean wear collection for men. It occurred to them that the selection for men was limited and that after wearing swim shorts for more than 5 hours, it became very uncomfortable.
Here, they spent some time talking to us at House of Coco about their vision for the brand and so much more…
When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
We launched our brand in December 2016. Our idea behind it was to create a more comfortable swim short than what was already on the market. A swim short without the net, but with a special lining used for bikinis. We believe that men should also enjoy this comfort and always feel fresh and stylish at the beach, restaurant, or beach club.
Whats your background?
We studied business. After the master degree Vincent worked in showrooms in Los Angeles to get some inspiration in fashion and he studied at the Instituto Marangoni school in London for Fashion Design. Julian went on to making films and commercials as an actor in Los Angeles, London and Zurich after finishing his Business degree. We’re both from Zurich Switzerland, born and raised.
How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?
In total, we have 4 people working actively for Andrew & Cole:
Jil Schaffner: sister of Julian is responsible for Online Marketing and Social media.
Tonia Korakis: is responsible for distribution and marketing strategy.
Vincent (Cole): is the creative director
Julian (Andrew): is the managing director
If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?
No, we couldn’t have wished for a better start. Of course we still have potential as a company, but we’re happy with how our first season is going and with the product we offer.
What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
Creating brand awareness and getting the product out into the world and the internet is a challenge we are still working on. Brands like Villebrequin and Sundek have been on the market for a while and have a great reputation. We do believe though that we have brought fresh wind and ideas (lining) to the market of men’s swimwear and that’s what makes us special.
2017 is here, where do you plan on taking the brand?
We are planning on creating more brand awareness with cool collaborations with influencers, beach clubs, boutiques’s and department stores. We are also focusing on making our product even cooler and better by manufacturing it in the EU.
To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
We have had a special request for 200 swim shorts from an Emirati friend of ours. The special edition contained the F3 logo. F3 is a symbol/logo connected to a person. This person is loved by a lot of people in the Middle East. To find out who it is, just google F3 Dubai and the mystery person will appear.
We have also had the chance to equip the staff at a chain of lake restaurants in Zurich. It makes us happy to have lunch at the lake and see the employees enjoying the comfort of the swim shorts during their work.
Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?
Zurich ☺ Secondary for Julian would be Miami because he grew up there and for Vincent it would be Nassau (Bahamas).

Best thing about London to you?
The weather. Just kidding. We love the culture of being outgoing in London. In Zurich, a lot of people stay at home during the week. When we’re out in London during the week, we have the best times and enjoy the restaurants and night life.
If you had to, what piece of clothing from your wardrobe would you wear everyday?
A&C’s of course. ☺
Most memorable piece of advice given to you?
Julian: Your visualizations, dreams and thoughts can become reality, if you believe in it and stay positive.
Vincent: life’s short, pursue what makes you happy.
Julian: Ice cream sandwiches (Maxibon, Oreo), I can’t stop when I start.
Vincent: watching TV series for hours
If you could spent 24 hours in anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Julian: Bondi beach
Vincent: Miami beach
