Here, House of Coco went behind the brand to find out more…

When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?

I launched the brand in late 2013, with the Northern lights collection. I wanted to bring to the market a new concept and a new design offering high end casual wear for women. The focus is on using prints with photographs of unique landscapes that might become a thing of the past and preserving the environment by donating proceeds to environmental organizations.

Other major factors is the design of elegant and comfortable clothing in soft and often rare eco-friendly fabrics and collaboration with accomplished photographers whose photos are incorporated in interesting and unexpected ways throughout all the design.

What’s your background?

I have a bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Iceland, with a main emphasis on marketing and Masters degree (MS) with a main emphasis on Marketing and International Trade. For seven years I managed a Product Information department at a global non-invasive orthopaedics company in Iceland.

How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?

Two to three people are involved in the company, however the number of people depends on the number of projects involved. My main role is daily operation, marketing, strategy, financing and sales. Head of design is Una Hlín Kristjánsdóttir, she is responsible for design development. Una joined the company in beginning of last year and she has designed the Glacial collection influenced by climate change on earth. This collection will be premiered in January next year. An excellent graphic designer works for us freelance designing our brochures, fliers and display in stores.

If you could start over with the company would you do anything differently?

Certainly, I have learned so much since I started the company. My first lesson was that a less than average raw goods supplier and/or manufacturer can make or break a small business like Dimmblá. So taking the time to choose the people you work with is extremely important to be able to offer high quality products.

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?

There have been so many challenges especially since my background is not in the fashion business. After hard work of building the brand the hardest challenge today is to find the right partner and bring in valuable expertise and funding to grow the business further and present the brand internationally.

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn´t know?

I’m very impatient, especially when it comes to other people’s procrastination.

2015 is here where do you plan on taking the brand?

The plan is to enter the German market in 2016 and offer high end casual daywear and accessories for women in specialized fashion stores and boutiques

To date, what has been the highlight since launching?

The highlight is all the publicity the brand has received in the media and having the pleasure to work with so many great people with different expertise who have helped to grow my business.

Three beauty products that you can’t leave the house without?

Redwood crème lipstick from Make Up store which I wear every day, the intensive anti-ageing 30 day treatment serum from Bioeffect and the organic make up from Lavera.

Style means?

Feeling your best in the clothes you are wearing

Best thing about London to you?

It is so much fun to see the diversity in the street style and there are so many outstanding restaurants to choose from. On top of my to-do list is to go to the theatre in London.

Statement shoe or statement bag?

I choose Burberry. It is luxury, classy, high quality and great design. I love the fact that it has been around since 1856 and has stood the test of time with some dramatic changes. It tells me how important it is to build a strong brand, invest in good people and have an excellent business strategy.

If you had to, what piece of clothing from your wardrobe would you wear every day?

I’m in love with the Kimono in Dimmblá´s Glacial collection that will be premiered in January 2016, it is made in a very soft and comfortable banana fabric. Definitely a piece I would wear every day.

Favourite love song?

Halo by Beyonce and Going home by Ásgeir Trausti

Best place for a coffee?

Mokka Kaffi is one of the oldest cafés in Reykjavík and my favourite place for coffee. It has old fashioned furniture’s and very cosy atmosphere and probably the best waffles in town. It is located on Skólavörðustígur, which is also my favourite street in Reykjavík.

Most memorable piece of advice given to you?

Despite difficult times and number of obstacles, it is the courage to continue that counts.

Guilty pleasure

Frappuccino with Irish cream syrup.

If you could spend 24 hours anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I would like to take a tour in Pompeii in Italy and see the ruins of the lost city and spend the night at a villa at the roots of Mount Vesuvius.

In future how do you plan on expanding the company?

In three years I want to expand the European market and sell the brand in Germany, Switzerland, UK, and Scandinavia. The vision is to be internationally acclaimed eco-friendly fashion brand with unique prints of the nature, interesting story and effectively participating in preserving the environment.
