Founded in December 2013, Guinevere Launcelot is an innovative high-end artist fashion style label based in the UK. The label is extraordinarily amusing and unique with its MULBERRY SILK Collections. The concept behind the designs is a harmonious combination of religious imagery and the romance of oriental culture and serene technology innovation. They feature bold patterns, loud colour and structured fits to blur gender divides.

Here, we go behind the brand to find out more…

When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
GUINEVERE LAUNCELOT was started at the end of 2012 and officially launched in 2016 after 3 years preparation. We seek the chance to mix our art concept and fashion style to attract people to know the Eastern culture and philosophy.

Whats your background?
Meiki Kyo and Hyeyeong Hailey Kim are the main designers of Guinevere Launcelot. These two talented designers bring heritages from the East, Japan and Korea, and inject avant-garde artistic vision and oriental philosophy into fashion. They are genuinely courageous innovators and visionaries who create exquisite and genteel garments for this brand.

Hailey loves exploring new materials and concepts with analogue sensibility and handcraft. Her works are full of modern urban sense. Meanwhile, the expression of her works shows humanity and emotional senses. Hailey eliminates gender division in her designs. She devotes herself to mixing the different concepts of male and female into every single piece of her design.

Meiki is a connate designer with exceptional aptitude, she approaches her designs with unique decorative and classical style through combining Eastern Philosophy and Western Romanticism. She defines fashion as ‘Something presents the flux of time’. She manifests her ideal as: ‘Fashion design should include classic compositions – which could be the use of silhouette, elements or a combination of colours; and, at the same time, has to be something you have never seen before’.

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
The hardest challenge during the preparation of the brand is the fabric and printing technology. People might not know that the printing is extremely difficult especially when you seek perfect reproduction of your artist design on the garment. We desired to achieve best printing in the world that no one else can do the same thing as we do. So after 3 years preparation and plenty of challenges, we found the best fabric for printing- natural SILK, and the outstanding printing team who are collaborating with Alexander McQueen and Valentino to print their silk scarf collections to achieve our crazy concept-art design.
