Belgium born jewellery designer-maker Julie Nicaisse handcrafts all her pieces with love and passion using traditional techniques and environmental friendly methods as so to create contemporary jewellery. When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?}
I have been working on Julie Nicaisse Jewellery for the last 10 years, but I only launched my brand officially at the beginning of 2017. Before launching my brand I was working as a jeweller which I really much enjoyed, but the creative part in me was not satisfied. I enjoy making jewellery but I also love designing them, and for me designing and making goes hand in hand. So launching my own brand was the logical next step to take.

Whats your background?
I studied fine Arts in Belgium were I am from, before moving to the U.K in 2000. In London I learned the Art of jewellery making through studies, research and practice. I acquired a high level of craftsmanship working for numerous renowned jewellers before launching my own brand.

How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?
Just me!

If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?
Absolutely not!

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
Balancing my personal life with my business. I am so passionate about my business that sometimes I forget about everything else.

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
I am a vegetarian!

2017 is here, where do you plan on taking the brand?
It is still early days for the brand, but I have a lot of new design yet to be launched along with a new collection for next year.

To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
This year I was selected to sell my work at the Museum Of London and to participate in “The Brooch is back” exhibition organized by TFL. One of my necklace was on display at the Gill Wing Gallery during the “Beyond the Blue” exhibition. All of this happened in a matter of a few months!

Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?
London without a doubt! London has been my home for over 17 years now!

Three beauty products you can’t leave the house without?
Coconut oil, rose water, and essential oil (the sent depends on what mood I am in)

Style means….?
The art of mixing and matching items to create something harmonious that will reflect personality.

Best thing about London to you?
In London everything is possible! It is such a beautiful and vibrant city full of inspiration, with lovely museums, parks where you can relax, food from all over the world, there is always something to do here and there is something for everyone!

Statement shoe or statement bag?
Statement shoes! A nice pair of heels can change your silhouette in seconds …

If you had to, what piece of clothing from your wardrobe would you wear everyday?
My red velvet dress!

Favourite love song?
“Ne me quitte pas” from Jaques Brel (Belgian singer and song writter)

Best place for a coffee?
Kynance Cove, in Cornwall, national trust café (the best view in England)

Most memorable piece of advice given to you?
“Never give up on your dreams”

Guilty pleasure?
Dark bitter chocolate

If you could spent 24 hours in anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Thailand, gemstone paradise! Breathe taking landscape, delicious food and lovely people.

In future, how do you plan on expanding the company?
I would love to take the brand on an international scale.
