Designer Spotlight : Naviya

At House of Coco we love unique jewellery pieces which tell a story. So when we stumbled across Naviya, a jewellery brand inspired by Turkey, we instantly fell in love.

We went behind the brand to find out more…

When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?

We launched in July 2014. We’ve always had a love of jewellery especially Ottoman/Turkish inspired jewels. We are of Turkish heritage and spend a lot of time over there and we are always in awe of the jewellery we find there and the designs, so we decided to bring this back to London and share with everyone here. We work with local Turkish jewellery artisans who create the jewellery we co-design.

Whats your background?

We are all born and raised in London. We have travelled a lot in our childhood which has inspired us. We have always had a passion for jewellery as our mother loved it too and that has passed down to us.

How many people are involved in the label and whats the process behind launching a new piece?

There is the three of us here who are sisters and two people in Turkey that make our jewellery by hand and who we co-design with. When we find some inspiration – this can be from anything we see everyday for example colours people are wearing or colours and shapes we see in our surroundings, we talk to our design team in Turkey and discuss about how we can make this into a new design that can be easy to wear and affordable.

If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?

No, we work with a great team in Turkey and everything has run smoothly up till now. Luckily, we as sisters get on really well both on a personal and professional level – with us all having the same beliefs and aspirations for Naviya.

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?

We all have full time jobs so sometimes this makes things that little bit harder but we love  doing Naviya so we make it work!

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?

We also have Polish heritage on our mother’ side. This is another great place for jewellery inspiration, amber is the national stone of Poland so we might introduce more of this into our collection in the future.

2015 is upon us, where do you plan on taking the brand?

We just want the people to wear and enjoy our jewellery as much as we do! That’s our main aim.

To date, what has been the highlight since launching?

Seeing people wearing our jewellery and sharing their pictures on social media.

What inspires each collection?

Until now the Ottoman Empire has inspired each collection and piece. So many cultures made up the Ottoman Empire over its 600 year reign and this diversity and beauty is what we want to capture in our collections. This is essential to our jewellery as we want people to feel special, different and stand out when wearing our pieces.
