A worldwide traveler, lover of life, trend setter and beautiful spirit, Tookey Buxton was also my grandmother. ‘GrandmaTookey’ sparked my love for classic jewelry and timeless design, so it was fitting that she would be the company Namesake. With an appreciation for unique adornments that enhance a mood, spark a reaction or evoke a memory, I created the Tookey Buxton jewelry collections to honor my grandmother’s love of all things unique.

Here, Tookey chats to us at House of Coco and tells us more…

When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
Tookey Buxton is suited for the stylish woman who enjoys jewelry that exudes a little bit of fun and flair while maintaining a sense of quality and sophistication. Each item is hand-made with Tookey in mind, at times combining the old (e.g. vintage beads and antique charms) with the new (e.g. modern style beads and contemporary findings) to create treasures that span generations.

What’s your background?
I’m a Tennessee native who has enjoyed a life on the move. I’ve lived and worked in most of the big cities across America, experiencing the many different people, places and things this great country has to offer. With an insatiable appetite for curiosity, I love to learn and feel most at home when creating ─ whether that’s designing a piece of jewelry, cultivating an herb garden, writing a story, developing a website, painting a picture, remodeling a home or building a brand. I guess you could say I bring an entrepreneurial spirit to most of my creative endeavors.

If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?
Nothing. I think it takes a while to find your rhythm, develop your voice, solidify your style and just put all the pieces into place. Once that is done, it’s just about consistently executing on your vision. I’m enjoying the process.

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
Probably building brand awareness on a limited budget.

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
Another one of my creative endeavors is ResortWorkers.com, an employment site in the US for resort locals.

2018 is almost here, where do you plan on taking the brand?
My near-term goal for Tookey Buxton is to focus on publicity / brand building, and I plan to start actively promoting my unique Connection Collection which is a fun twist on jewelry. I also plan to publish more Stories on TookeyBuxton.com that combine my love of jewelry with my love of travel.

To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
Being discovered online by brands like you and Conde Nast Traveler despite not doing any publicity / press releases yet.

Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?
Since I lived in NYC for a few years, I’d have to say New York. I absolutely fell in love with London, though, when I would travel there for work, and Paris will forever be special because it was my very first trip abroad.

Three beauty products you can’t leave the house without?
Moisturizing Lipstick, Jurlique Calendula Cream and Magnolia-scented hand lotion.

Style means….?
expressing yourself in any way that exudes your unique personality. I believe style, like art, is completely subjective.

Best thing about London to you? Just one? The unique transportation – from double decker buses to the taxicabs to the tube to even the boats on the River Thames. It’s all fantastic!

Statement shoe or statement bag?
Statement Bag.

Favourite love song?
‘Inseparable’ by Natalie Cole. So good.

Best place for a coffee?
On my screened in porch, with Lady and Tucker (my dogs) snoozing nearby.

Most memorable piece of advice given to you?
“Really…what’s the rush? Take the pressure off.” which immediately gave me permission to exhale as an entrepreneur, stay present and enjoy the process.

Guilty pleasure?
An indulgent trip to Harbour Island which feels like Heaven on earth. It’s so special, I created the Harbour Island Jewelry Collection to capture its essence.

If you could spend 24 hours anywhere in the world, where would it be?
It’s a toss-up between my Mississippi home dubbed the “Peace Palace” where I am free from distraction and able to create or Aspen, Colorado where I’ve lived on and off since the late 80s.

In future, how do you plan on expanding the company?
I’d love to eventually expand the Tookey Buxton brand into home furnishings and other decorative items.
