Chances are you remember your very first bottle of champagne; sharing a special moment whilst creating a cherished memory. Whether it was a romantic proposal, engagement, wedding, anniversary, special birthday, birth of a child, new job, successful business deal, or simply catching up with dear friends and loved ones, these memories bring joy every time you recall them.
Now you can cherish your memories forever with the champagne inspired jewellery range from Wearing Memories. Here, House of Coco went behind the brand to find out more…
When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
I officially launched Wearing Memories in 2013, however I first came up with the idea in 2011.
The idea behind Wearing Memories came about when my small town in Queensland Australia was hit by a devastating flood. My town was in shock so my girlfriends and I decided that life was too short so all the bottles of champagne that we saved for our special occasions we decided to pull them out of our cellars and drink them. I became so obsessed with champagne; I needed to know why one tasted different from the other so I would look into the structure of the cuvee and the history of each house. I started to wear the cage (plaque de muselet) on my finger so that I could see what I was drinking. After a while I decided that I loved wearing the caps on my finger so much I designed a ring to wear all my champagne caps!
Whats your background?
Before Wearing Memories I was a teacher for many years. My passion was the education of children in the early years.
What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
There are many challenges in running a company; staff, production, etc . . .
However, the most challenging thing is believing in yourself and the company that you are building.
There are so many times when I have said to myself “Why am I doing this?” Then a magic moment happens and I remember all the sleepless nights, all the nervous stomach butterflies and that my life savings invested in the company was all worth it.
2016 is here, where do you plan on taking the brand?
2015 was a very exciting year for Wearing Memories. The most exciting thing for me has been the creative side of Wearing Memories. I love that my inspiration comes from the champagne houses, my clients and amazing champagne moments. I really feel that I really extended my creativity last year with my show at London Fashion Week called ‘Decadent Moments’ as well as my exhibition in Paris, the first time I have taken Wearing Memories to Paris Fashion Week and I can’t wait to do more of the same this year.
To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
My most exciting moment was when Emma Pask a beautiful jazz singer sent me a picture of her sound of happiness ring with a Bollinger cap inside and said I just got engaged but don’t have a ring so I am wearing yours until I do. That to me meant so much to be a part of someone happiest moment.
Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?
My home is a small town in Queensland Australia, however I could feel at home in any of these cities as long as my family was with me. My husband, two children, three dogs and our cat are what make my home.
Three beauty products you can’t leave the house without?
I am in love with my Christian Louboutin satin gloss, my sunglasses and Jean Paul Gautier perfume.
Expressing yourself. Wearing and accessorizing with items you feel express your personality are very important to me.
Best thing about London to you?
I love London it is so diverging. There is so much to do and there is a buzz of excitement all the time. I love the historical buildings and the left over but not forgotten history. To me London is absolutely fascinating.
Statement shoe or statement bag?
Love my Louboutins! I always love to pair them with a red dress. My favorite handbag at the moment is my tasseled Burberry I love the size and the two tones colours.
If you had to, what item from your wardrobe would you wear every day?
I love my round neck black bond t-shirt it is so comfortable and such a wonderful throw on t-shirt with anything. I have five of them in my draw for my stay home and design days.
Favorite love song?
We Belong by Pat Benittar
Best place for a coffee?
I don’t drink coffee but ask me where my favorite place is to drink champagne in London and I would have to say The Savoy!
Most memorable piece of advice given to you?
Passion is the key to everything if you loose your passion you loose your purpose.
If you could spent 24 hours anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Bath UK so many fond memories in that magical place.
In future, how do you plan on expanding the company?
We are now looking at expanding the market to the USA with new campaigns and production. This is a very exciting step for Wearing Memories.
