In the lobby, the first thing that welcomes guests is the deep green decor and a faint drift of citrus and sea salt that seems to follow you. Jaime Beriestain, the visionary behind the redesign, has performed some sort of rebirth. He has completely moved away from the cold, marble-heavy tropes of traditional luxury, and leans instead into the earthy nature of Andalusia.
Entering my room at El Fuerte felt personal, like it had been designed to be lived in rather than looked at. The space is a beautiful blend of texture, with a grounded palette of ochre, terracotta, and deep sea-blues. The layout of the suite is defined by a sense of deliberate flow; the bed is separated by a striking, dark-veined archway from the sunken lounge area, where the linen-covered sofas and abstract geometric art create a mood of sophistication. The atmosphere feels organic, and as an added touch, there’s a woven straw beach bag and branded linens waiting on the bed — a nod to the enviable lifestyle the hotel offers.
Then, there is the theatre of the bath. The vanity piece is sculptural by design. When the sunset hits, the granite-flecked stone basin casts an ethereal, solar glow against the amber-toned walls where the mirror reflects the light. There is also an endless variety of hors d’oeuvres that ensure you never have to look far for a taste of something local and perfectly paired.
During my stay, I would visit the lounge and watch the sky transition into hues of pinks and purples. I sat, holding onto a chilled glass of rosé cava, knowing that while the rest of Marbella was getting ready to live their nightlife dreams, I was tucked away in El Fuerte’s inner sanctum. Along the shoreline, Soleo captures the property’s beachy soul with its burnished woods and glass walls that reflect the moonlight. Here, you can either dine alfresco right against the sand or retreat inside where the floor-to-ceiling glass views keep you connected to the crashing waves. Sitting so close to the tide, I could smell the scent of the sea before the first plate even arrived.
Every meal began with a spread of warm bread and fresh tomatoes, paired with an exquisite extra virgin olive oil called Tierra Mediterranea, produced by the owners of El Fuerte themselves and only available at the hotel’s ‘Grab N Go’ — a 24/7 self-service boutique designed for when you need something high quality without the wait. The space is stocked with ready-to-eat artisanal meals and snacks, branded merchandise, and local delicacies.
Over several sittings throughout my stay, I leaned into El Fuerte’s ‘Sea, Fire, and Mountains’ philosophy. My meals by the shore often began with the legendary 100% acorn-fed 5J Jamón Ibérico, served alongside a fresh tomato salsa and artisanal picos bread to perfectly balance the nutty flavours of the Spain’s finest ham. However, the standout was the Seafood Paella with Prawns, Galician Mussels and Clams from Carril. Finished in the Josper Grill, the dish stood out as an umami-rich masterpiece that tasted like the very essence of the Mediterranean.
Nursing a final glass of Albariño, I realised that at El Fuerte, you don’t just eat the food — you become part of the shoreline’s story.
In contrast, Levante presents a shift from the coastal edge to a bright, botanical conservatory. Lunches here take a global turn, blending local Andalusian freshness with Asian-inspired flair. My meal felt like a journey through these two worlds.
I started with the Takoyaki Shrimp Gyozas, a clever fusion topped with Japanese mayo and katsuobushi. But the heart of my meal was the Panang Curry, its fragrant depth comes from the fresh local prawns and the abundant furikake-flecked rice. You can’t go wrong.

The therapist began with the lower body, applying a variety of serums and oils, slowly working towards my upper body with long, sweeping strokes. I felt every pressure in my body simply dissolve; it was a rhythmic resetting of the nervous system.
