Thursday night, it’s raining, you’re in central London which somehow is a little devoid of interesting food unless you are willing to queue in said rain or had the foresight to book a table 3 weeks ago. Then you turn a corner and stumble upon Farmstand, our new favourite knight in shining armour.
In between chowing down on some incredible brisket, sweet potatoes and beans and an organic lager for the princely sum of £11.95 we caught 5 minutes with founder and food visionary Steven Novick.
Steven is such an overachiever and we love him for it. In 2006 after being diagnosed with cancer he set himself three goals: to become closer to his friend and family, finish climbing the highest peak on each of the seven continents and start a healthy fast food business. Farmstand is him smashing that last goal. Oh, and he was given the all clear so we can be sure he’ll be setting more crazy goals soon!
Hailing from Wisconsin, Steven grew up surrounded by fresh, local produce that was sold from roadside farmstands. The Drury Lane restaurant is the first of hopefully many and has Whole Foods meets Soho House vibes. Food comes from a kitchen in happening Deptford and the team is fantastic mix of nationalities, backgrounds and, if you believe the ‘About Us’ section of the website, various specialist pub quiz subjects. The team actually own the business so you know you’re going to get good service and recommendations here!
Farmstand is open from breakfast until late seven days a week, serving a menu of internationally-influenced, UK-sourced, nutritionally-balanced ‘Build Your Own’ and ‘Ready To Go’ options, available to takeaway or to eat-in. The Build Your Own option at Farmstand has 18,432 potential menu combinations!
You can give Farmstand a whirl at 42 Drury Lane, Covent Garden, London, WC2B 5AJ . Let us know what combination you go for!
