The origins of double denim can be sourced way back to the 1950s, worn by the likes of ’50s stars such as Marilyn Monroe, George Harrison and Elvis Presley. One look that sticks in people’s minds is Marilyn Monroe on the set of The Misfits in 1960.

’70s

Also known as the Canadian Tuxedo, it’s been said that Cowboys and Miners of Gold Rush California in the ’70s rocked double denim. Debbie Harry, Blondie frontwoman, was seen on stage in 1978 styling a cropped denim jacket with indigo jeans and knee-high boots.

Pair your favourite black oversized denim trucker jacket with your skinny black jeans with the rips and some chunky boots, and you’re set.

Mismatch high contrasts

Go wild with the contrasts of different denim tones and shades. First, choose a colour palette – black or blue – then contrast a lighter shade with a darker shade. A dark blue denim shirt, white tee and faded blue jeans with trainers look great together!
