The fashion years of 2000 to 2010 were unique, and as of yet haven’t been taken back into mainstream fashion the same way that the 1990s, 1980s, or even older have. After all, 00s fashion was an era of experimentation. With those low-rise jeans, Livestrong wrist bands, tube tops, and platform flipflops, there was a lot that went wrong fashion-wise during the time.

In the future, who knows, we might rediscover our love for the 00s and reclaim those aforementioned trends with a gusto previously reserved for 80s fashion and the return of the mom-jeans. Before we get to then, however, you might be surprised at a few trends that have not only survived the 00s, but have thrived since. Not every fashion trend has been cast away in shame; some have evolved, which is why you probably didn’t know these five things about 00s fashion trends:

Statement Hair Clips Were First Popular

Statement hair claws were popular back in the 00s, and they are once again popular today. In fact, this shift is so recent it can be seen as a trend that has re-emerged in 2019, and done mostly through Instagram influencers and micro-brands.Though the statement clips of today are more likely to be classics, like shellac or pearl, their ancestors would still be proud.

Tinted Sunglasses First Had Their Heyday

Tinted sunglasses are never going away, but the trend only really kicked off and became exceptionally artistic in the 90s. It is here that small oval sunglasses and triangles took centre stage, and when it comes to fashion today, these two shapes have re-emerged and taken a whole new meaning to the word “chic.”

Biker Style Stays True

Tailored leather coats are set to become a huge trend in the A/W 2019, if their success on the catwalks was anything to go by. This harks back to Matrix trilogy, which, though starting in 1999, is definitely a 00s cultural masterpiece. You can get your own retro coat and recreate the look now by heading online to JACK1T today, and then you’ll be ready for an incredibly stylish season.

Bohemian Heyday

Bohemian also had a heyday in the 00s, despite being designed and populated earlier. Long hair and flowy fabrics harking back to the 60s and 70s provided the inspiration for this style.

Layering Origins

The most surprising thing you probably didn’t consider when it comes to 00s fashion is that layering started then. Sure, shirt, blazer, coat combination has been around for centuries, but layering a tank top over a t-shirt? That was new and definitely a hallmark of the 00s. That trend holds true today, only instead of a tank top, you are more likely to see a white t-shirt layered under dungarees, slip dresses, or spaghetti strap tops.

The 00s might have had some questionable choices, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t some fashion gems. In fact, we are currently wearing a few top trends that were popular back then, and the shift towards modernising 00s fashion is only set to continue into 2020.
