The UK shoe industry is worth over £6 billion and it is no secret that a pair of amazing heels has the potential to make women feel glamorous. ‘When it comes to completing an outfit, there is no substitute for a pair of the perfect heels’ says Kate Angliss, Head of Merchandising at Kaleidoscope. ‘Heels can transform a day look to evening and add a touch of elegance to make you feel more confident. Opt for a pair of wedges or chic mini-heels if towering stilettos aren’t your thing, even an extra inch can create that fabulous feeling’. Wearing heeled shoes also enhances the way you walk, gives shape to your calf muscles and elongates the look of legs to make them appear longer and leaner.
The act of smiling spreads a little joy by sending a message to your brain that you’re happy which causes your body to release feel-good endorphins. This means having a smile to be proud of is key – don’t shy away from showing those gnashers: “When it comes to feeling good, looking after your oral health is essential for your overall wellbeing both mentally and physically’, explains Dr Sameer Patel, Clinical Director at award-winning London dental practice, Elleven. ‘Studies have found that people with a pearly white smile have higher levels of self-confidence and there are certain things you can eat to help boost the natural whiteness of your teeth. Apples are considered to be ‘nature’s toothbrush’ and are a great way of cleaning teeth on-the-go when you are at work and unable to brush your teeth. Other choices include raw carrots, celery, and popcorn. All of these foods are known as ‘detergent’ foods, as the rough edges act as a cleaner to help remove bacteria from the teeth”.
Looking great is one thing, but it seems fruity aromas can also boost your confidence and help you feel fabulous. A study conducted by Jeannette Haviland-Jones of Rutgers University in New Jersey found that floral fragrances can promote feelings of happiness and social interaction which in turn can improve our mood. ‘For spring and summer, infusing perfumes with floral scents is a popular choice as it helps to give fragrances a fresh aroma.’ Says founder of perfume brand She Who Dares, Rachel Lowe. ‘Wearing your favourite perfume during the warmer months is a great way to help boost your mood even when the sun isn’t shining’.
Experts believe that having well-groomed hair allows us to feel ‘in control’, and there is no better way to achieve this than with a great products that help to create effortless styling on a daily basis. To help add a bit of bounce and avoid dry and frizzy hair during the warmer months, haircare expert Nicky Clarke recommends using a product such as the Frizz Control Smooth & Shine Hot Air Styler: ‘The styler is the perfect way to add a bit of va va voom to your hair’ explains Nicky Clarke, ‘whilst ensuring that your hair remains strong and moisturised. The product uses natural bristles which are not only kinder whilst styling, but also leave your hair with a healthier shine by distributing natural oils through the hair.’
We can all fall victim to the mid-afternoon slump and lack momentum during the working day, after opting for an early lunch. This can lead to the temptation to grab the nearest snack which isn’t always the most sensible option and experts believe this can cause us to experience a lull in energy. However, founder of Tasty Little Numbers, Jo Beach, has created a way that we can enjoy portion-controlled versions of the most popular desk snacks. ‘The new gluten-free 100 Calorie Chocolate Biscuit Bars are the perfect office-based snack, and with three different flavours, there is something to suit everyone’ says Jo Beach. The bars are free from artificial flavours, colours and preservatives and completely gluten free to suit coeliacs.
