Flight and Holiday Searches Hit A High On Miserable Monday

Call us sad jobsworths but yesterday at House of Coco HQ we were buzzing to get back to work and in to the swing of things plus spending time with our colleagues is always a ball. However, it appears that we may have been in the minority as searches for flights and holidays on ba.com soared yesterday as people who returned to work after the Christmas break spent ‘Miserable Monday’ looking for their next break in the sun.

Traffic on British Airways’ website jumped by more than 25 per cent compared to a regular Monday, and a further 10 per cent compared to the first day back at work last year.

Searches reached their peak at 11.32am as workers jumped on the internet after clearing their emails and catching up with colleagues to scour the airline’s January sale in a bid to banish the winter blues.

The top five most searched for holiday destinations were:

1)      New York

2)      Orlando

3)      Dubai

4)      Barbados

5)      Barcelona

Dominican Republic model on beachClaire Bentley, managing director of British Airways Holidays, said: “Almost everyone suffers a ‘Miserable Monday’ being back at work for the first time after being off during Christmas and New Year so inevitably thoughts turn to summer holidays.

“We know lots of people are mulling over places to fly and go on holiday to and have looked at lots of flights and holidays before they finally commit to a favourite destination and secure their holiday break away.

“January is the time when many of our customers are shortest of cash so they can secure their trip away with a depositof just £150, and pay the rest up to ten weeks before departure.”

In a nod to celebrity ‘copy-cat culture’ searches for holidays to Jamaica saw an increase of a whopping 335 per cent(compared to searches on the first day back at work last year) after Simon Cowell, Kendall Jenner and Harry Styles were spotted sunning themselves in the Caribbean over Christmas.

Interest in holidays to Miami also saw an uplift of 68 per cent* after celebrities like Rita Ora, Caroline Flack and Nick Grimshaw were photographed ringing in the New Year at the US holiday hotspot.
