A Girls’ Weekend in Texas, Why Four Seasons Austin is the Perfect Address

A speakeasy in a luxury suite, a million bats at dusk, live music under the Texas sky; Austin doesn’t do anything halfway. Neither should your girls’ weekend.

There’s an unspoken rule about girls’ weekends: the best ones are impossible to explain to anyone who wasn’t there. Austin has a way of making that very easy to achieve, and Four Seasons Austin has a way of making sure you’re rested, glowing, and suspiciously well-cocktailed throughout the weekend.

Nestled on the shores of Lady Bird Lake with the downtown skyline as its backdrop, this is the luxury base camp your group has been looking for: the kind of place that feels like a treat the moment you walk in and works to extend that vibe throughout your stay.

And in summer, the hotel raises its own game further with TEXclusive Summer, a seasonal programming lineup running June 1 through September 7 that turns a great stay into something genuinely extraordinary.

Arrival: Drop the Bags and Borrow a Better One

The first thing you notice at Four Seasons Austin is the view. Lady Bird Lake shimmers beyond the lobby windows like it’s been placed there specifically for your arrival. Check-in has the easy warmth of a hotel that understands why you’re here, and the staff delivers the keen sense that absolutely nothing is too much trouble.

But before you head upstairs to the lake-view rooms and those private balconies, there’s a decision to be made that sets the tone for everything that follows. Four Seasons Austin offers a guest amenity that became the crown jewel of the weekend: complimentary designer handbag rentals. Guests can experience the iconic luxury accessories membership club, Vivrelle, for the duration of their stay.

The selection of Chanel, Prada, Gucci, Saint Laurent and more is available on-site, and it is genuinely, delightfully dangerous. I chose a small, quilted Chanel in pink, the kind of bag that puts a spring in your step and dares you to order the second cocktail. Absolutely the perfect bag for the girls’ weekend.

This is the detail that separates a very good hotel stay from a great one: the unexpected touch that makes you feel considered, not just accommodated.

Morning: The Spa’s Sol Summer Ritual

There is no better opening act to a girls’ weekend than a morning at The Spa at Four Seasons Austin. The Sol Summer Ritual makes the case without effort. This is not a quick massage squeezed between checkout and brunch. This is an experience featuring locally-inspired botanicals worked carefully into the skin, nourishing oils that smell like a Texas garden after rain, restorative techniques that ease the tension that accumulates somewhere between your last work deadline and airport security. You emerge glowing, slightly heavy-lidded, and smug in the best possible way. Book early. Summer appointments fill quickly, particularly on weekends when the hotel is at its most lively.

The spa itself is an experience beyond the treatment room.  Be sure to immerse yourself in the Himalayan pink salt relaxation lounge, with its soft amber light and particular quality of quiet, earns a long, unhurried visit before or after. Eucalyptus drifts from the steam rooms. The world outside ceases to feel relevant. If a girls’ weekend has a spiritual home, this is where it lives.

Afternoon: 83 Degrees of Saltwater Bliss

The spa robes easily transition to your favorite swimsuit and a shady lounger at the Four Seasons Austin pool. The saltwater pool is cooled to a perfect 83°F, refreshingly cool against the Texas summer sun. The attentive pool staff is on-the-ready with frozen cocktails, fresh salads and hearty sandwiches. In addition to the tasty provisions, pool staff circulates hourly with chilled Evian facial spray, a nice touch that cools you while sparing your hair from the full head dunk in the pool.

Umbrellas provide enough shade to protect both your skin and one amazing pink Chanel bag from the sun. On weekends, The Point lakeside stage hosts live DJ sets that makes a pool afternoon and the girls’ weekend extra festive. Settle into a shaded daybed with something frozen in hand and let time stop.

If you plan your visit around a full moon, the pool experience takes on an entirely new dimension. This summer’s Full Moon Float Sound Bath, offered July 29 and August 27, begins with handcrafted martinis at a welcome reception before moving to the pool. There, guests float beneath the Texas moon as an immersive sound bath carries across the water. It may sound unlikely until you are drifting in a saltwater pool, watching the moon rise over Lady Bird Lake, and then it feels like the best idea anyone has ever had.

If the afternoon calls for something a little slower, the TEXclusive A-Tea-X is served daily throughout the summer and is a distinctly Austin take on afternoon tea, with creative bites, bright teas, and floral cocktails overlooking Lady Bird Lake. Consider it the civilized counterpart to the DJ set at The Point.

Late Afternoon: On the Water

Paddleboarding on Lady Bird Lake, accessible from the hotel’s lakeside grounds, is the perfect way to close the afternoon. The late afternoon light does something extraordinary to the Austin skyline when you’re seeing it from the water. It’s a view that makes you understand immediately why people move here and never leave.

Paddleboarding rewards presence over expertise. It’s beginner-friendly but be prepared to take an unplanned swim in the lake. Laughing at yourself is a required part of paddleboarding with friends during a girls’ weekend. And, of course, it makes the jaunt out on the lake much more memorable and an obvious conversation at that evening’s dinner.

The experience of gliding across Lady Bird Lake with the city shimmering around you is one of those small, perfect things that no itinerary can fully capture. You simply have to be there, on the water, in the light, giggling with friends to understand it. Paddleboard rentals are available directly on the hotel’s waterfront.

Evening: The Hidden Flask

This is the moment the evening has been building toward, and it delivers. The Hidden Flask is tucked inside Four Seasons Austin’s coveted Congressional Suite, transformed each summer into a speakeasy experience that is part theatre, part cocktail masterclass, and entirely unforgettable. The experience begins in the lobby. The concierge will provide you the password as well as the secret number to dial from a special lobby phone to announce your arrival.

Staff will meet you in the elevator lobby to escort you to the speakeasy. The elevator ride up feels like the drum roll it is.  As you take your first step in, you find yourself surrounded by seven-foot illuminated ice columns, interactive art installations, a DJ’s tracks commanding the room, and an ice room that provides a dramatically cool escape from the Texas night outside.

Move around the corner to find the bathtub filled with ice and bottles of champagne, making a Instagram-worthy photo-op perfect for any girls’ weekend.

The drinks menu leans into local aged spirits and house-made infusions. I chose the Good Decisions cocktail, a honeydew melon and hibiscus-infused vodka sorbet topped with champagne. The sorbet melts into the bubbles producing one of the most refreshing drinks I’ve ever tasted; so good that a second Good Decision was mandatory. The bites are thoughtful, the atmosphere electric, and the quilted pink Chanel, it must be said, felt entirely at home.

Reservations are essential. Hidden Flask is open Thursdays through Sundays during the Summer. Book ahead with the concierge or on OpenTable, as this one fills up fast.

Dusk: One Million Bats & the Texas Sky

Between cocktails and dinner, take a short walk to see the most spectacular moment of the weekend. The crowd begins gathering along the railing of the Congress Avenue Bridge before dusk. You’ll feel the buzz of collective anticipation, and then the sky simply erupts. Nearly 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats pour out from beneath the bridge in a column that seems impossible until you’re standing there watching it happen.

No luxury experience can replicate it. No itinerary can prepare you for it. Just show up, look up, and let Austin do its thing. It is wild and joyful and entirely free.

After Dark: Willie Nelson, Live Music & Dinner at Ciclo

From the bridge, make the short walk toward Austin City Limits Live, where Willie Nelson’s bronze statue stands outside the venue with the patient confidence of a man who knows exactly how good this city is. Stop for a moment. Take the photo; just you and Willie. It is an Austin rite of passage, and he has excellent taste in company.

The live music spilling across downtown Austin on any given summer evening is one of the city’s great gifts. The night air is filled with Americana drifting from one venue, blues curling out of another, a summer breeze carrying it all together into something that feels completely Texan. Let it become the soundtrack you as you make your way back to the hotel.

Dinner at Ciclo is the evening’s final act. The waterfront restaurant at Four Seasons Austin has Lady Bird Lake shimmering beyond its windows and an atmosphere that is sophisticated without being stiff, which is exactly the vibe a small group of friends craves. Ask for a window table. Lady Bird Lake, lit by the Austin skyline, is a view worth specifically requesting.

The menu features sustainable and Texas-inspired dishes. The Miso Halibut and the Prime Cowgirl Ribeye were cooked to perfection and were large enough to allow everyone at the table to sample one another’s entrees. Don’t miss Ciclo’s signature house bread, Manchego Popovers. The light and fluffy popovers will tempt you to order more.

No Ciclo dinner would be complete without the bon bons for dessert. The bon bons’ dark chocolate shells give way to cold and flavorful Mexican vanilla ice cream from Austin’s famous Amy’s Ice Cream.

The conversation flows the way it only does when everyone is fed, warm, and in exactly the right company. Nobody checks their phone. Nobody mentions work. The lake glitters beyond the glass, and we find ourselves still at the table long past the moment we should have asked for the bill.

If the evening isn’t quite ready to end, Live Oak’s easy atmosphere is waiting. Four Seasons Austin’s lobby bar hosts live local talent six nights a week throughout the summer (Americana, blues, acoustic sets) with Lady Bird Lake shimmering beyond the windows and absolutely no reason to call it a night just yet.

The long goodbye

A great girls’ weekend deserves a great final morning, and Four Seasons Austin delivers one without being asked. The lake is still there, glittering in the morning sun. The balcony is still the best seat in Austin. And downtown, just beyond the hotel doors, is already offering up its gentlest version of itself; boutiques, galleries, the smell of breakfast tacos convincing you that you should stay a little longer.

The Vivrelle pink Chanel is returned to the concierge, with a backwards glance that says, “I’ll be back for you!”. The rooms give way to checkout. But the Sol Summer Ritual glow doesn’t fade with the room key, and neither does the memory of those bats against a Texas sunset, or the laughs and libations at Hidden Flask, or the way Ciclo felt at night when nobody wanted the evening to end.

As with any girls’ weekend, you’ll walk away with memories and perhaps some secrets. But Austin will keep doing its own thing long after you’ve checked out. Four Seasons Austin simply makes it impossible to imagine experiencing this Texas gem any other way.
