Foxlow, Hawksmoor’s just as meaty little sibling, is a charmingly bedecked restaurant in East London’s Clerkenwell. Having visited for their insane Iberico pork and Miami Dolphin cocktails (ft. gummy bear treat), House of Coco were pumped to try their new brunch menu.
The new addition has been in the offing for 15 months, Founder Huw Gott was bored of the tired old Eggs Benedict/Bucks Fizz thing, Huw says “we wanted to do something a bit more exciting, something different to what London already offers. So we waited … and waited until we’d got it right.” And did they ever get it right!
Lewis Hannaford, Foxlow’s Head Chef was keen to get a Fried Chicken Waffle on the menu, but found early incarnations disappointing – “a bit beige on beige bland”. Remembering the Japanese chicken and egg combo Oyakodon (Mother & Child), he added a fried egg and a jug
of sausage gravy. The result is a thing of beauty.
We were cajoled into trying the Montecristo (a kind-of croque monsieur drowned in maple syrup) – the Franco-American lovechild that is Foxlow’s Montecristo Cronut, it’s bananas – gang, you’ve got to try it! We’ve even heard tales of people sending taxis to collect Montecristos to nurse even the most banging of hangovers.
There are some lighter dishes too, including Homemade Ricotta & London Honey; Roast Plums, Waffle and Greek Yoghurt; Sweet Potato & Kale Hash and Avocado, Chilli & Lime on Toast – but yeah… it’s all about the Montecristo.
The Bloody Marys are next level, featuring peated whisky and smokey chipotle they’re the best we’ve tried in London. The Foxlow bar team has created a range of new drinks including Wild Oats Flip (Chivas Regal, Porridge Syrup, Whole Egg), Gamma Ray Michelada (Pale Ale, Lime, Spice Mix), Aperol Spritz Slushy (Aperol, Prosecco, Soda) and Honeydew Salty Dog (Vodka, Melon, Salt) – so intriguing, we’ll be sure to return again to try them out!
