Time to get blown away with the recent opening of new hair destination, Duck & Dry! A blow dry salon based in the famous Chelsea hang-out King’s Road London has recently opened offering clients a selection of blow drys and up-dos for every occasion. From big and bouncy volume to beautiful braids, there’s a ‘do for everyone. We heard there’s even a bar within the salon – and that was enough to persuade our House of Coco beauty editor Scarlett to duck in and experience why everyone’s getting their feathers in a flap over Duck & Dry…
Blow Dry bars have been a fixture in the US for a while now so it was only a matter of time before someone brought the concept to London. Duck & Dry was born from the minds of Yulia Rorstrom, a former management consultant with a passion for beauty and hair styling guru Snowden Hill, who has transformed the hair of many A-list celebrities including Erin O’Connor, Naomi Campbell and Cameron Diaz, to name a few. So you know you’re in good hands! The salon specialises in Blow-dry’s and Up-dos only, so that means no colour, no cut, just sleek, professionally blow dried hair to transform you for that meeting or party in under 30 minutes. You are presented with a ‘look book’ of 16 hair styles (8 blow dry’s and 8 up-dos) to make it really quick and simple for you to choose what you want. There’s also a set price for everything, £25 for any blow dry (no matter what hair type or length) and £35 for any up-do so you won’t be caught out on any added unwanted expenses.
When arriving at Duck & Dry, you could be mistaken for thinking it is a newly opened bar or coffee shop as the first thing you see in the glass windows is a beautifully decorated (and well stocked!) bar with everything from prosecco to proper coffee. They even have a menu of nibbles for you to enjoy whilst having your hair attended to. This is the first thing that makes Duck & Dry different to other salons. Its not just about the hair, they create an atmosphere that is welcoming, social and buzzing that draws you into the salon and makes you want to be part of it. The music is pumping and your night out starts here – that’s what makes it such an individual and exciting experience.
The layout of the salon is all open plan with exposed brickwork in a modern sleek style. The hair stylists use the best quality hair products such as O&M, Morrocan Oil, and Cloud 9 to prep and ensure your blow out has extra staying power once you leave. I must say, the conditioner or treatment that was used to wash my hair with smelt divine and I regret not asking what it was!
After must deliberation of what hair style to go for (ill try Low Tide Waves – no! Maybe the Classic Duck – or what about a Brazen Braid?), I opted for the most extravagant blow dry in the look book – the Va Va Voom blow out which is a modern take on the classic hollywood side waves, you know the one that all the stars have on the red carpet?! It’s a far cry from my usual, grungey curls/dreadlocks with a halo of frizz and looks the most difficult to create so it’s really putting the hair stylists to the test!
My stylist, Amy, created the look in 30 minutes flat, much to my amazement as my long curly hair quite often takes a lot longer than that to blow dry into sleek, smooth locks and the result was definitely Va Va Voom…
I absolutely loved the finish of the blow dry. My hair was smooth, super shiny with sooo much body and volume. Im not used to having such well preened hair and was absolutely amazed at what a Duck & Dry can do to completely change the quality of my, quite frankly, over dyed and heat damaged hair. Also, the amount curl and wave that Amy managed to give my hair with just a hairdryer and a round bristle brush is fantastic and something I can only recreate myself with curling tongs.
Duck & Dry is a quality, modern salon, with quality hairstylists at a very reasonable price. I shall definitely be returning to try out their full range of blow dry looks the next time I have an event or occasion. Ill even invite all my girls, as the more blow dry’s or up-do’s you buy, the more money you save on drinks as part of their Club bundles.
As they say, “Fine feathers make fine birds” and at Duck & Dry, they definitely do.
