How to Celebrate Burns Night

Despite it being lockdown, these restaurants and drinks brands are here to ensure you have the best time celebrating Burns Night and poet Robert Burns.

Burns Night falls today (Monday 25th January) and is a supper and celebration of the life and work of renowned poet, Robert Burns. The author of many Scottish poems is cause for this day of merriment for his poems, including the popular song Auld Lang Syne.

Though we may be in lockdown, there’s still reason and opportunity to celebrate Burns Night and there are some brands and companies who are here to help you do so.

Brand ambassador Gary Ross will talk you the tasting notes of Dewar’s 12, Craigellachie 13 and Aberfeldy 16; all perfect whiskies for a sauce. Head Chef and owner of Ballintaggart Chris Rowley will then take you through making the whisky sauce itself.

Ingredient list for a whisky sauce for x4:

  • 2 tsp Scottish rapeseed oil
  • 1 Banana shallot, diced
  • 1 Glove of garlic, crushed
  • 500 ml Double cream
  • 2 tsp Wholegrain mustard
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 30ml Dewar’s whisky
  • 1 tbsp Chopped chives
  • ½ Lemon
  • Sea salt
  • White pepper
