The days of bland mirrors and boring home designs are long gone and gone for good. And DECORATIVE MIRRORS have been ushered in – bringing a wave a sophistication and functionality to contemporary home designs. Mirrors are a wonderful addition to any home, helping to create the illusion of space and light to dark corners.

While there are wonderful mirror styles available in the market like contemporary metallic flowers and modern floral designs, using plastic spoons still is the simplest. Even in its simplicity, decorating your mirrors with spoons can bring so much colour and sophistication to your home. Whether you’re looking to breathe some life into your bathroom or make your sitting room more entertaining, DECORATIVE MIRRORS are the way to go. Even with your old mirrors, follow the steps below on how to transform them into something magical using spoons.

The materials you will need

No. You’re not going to need a transformer’s toolbox to create simple spoons decorated mirrors. Below are the materials you’ll need:

  • Soft brush
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Packs of plastic spoons
  • Thick paper
  • Latex white paint
  • Two 3mm MDF wreath forms
  • Art acrylic paint in Teal
  • Jute twine
  • Dish for paint
  • Sandpaper

How to decorate a mirror frame with plastic spoons?

Step one: Cut off the handles of the plastic spoons

From the six-packs of spoons you bought, cut off all the handles. You don’t need to buy the most expensive spoons for this, the cheapest spoons that cost less than $2.00 per pack would do the job. Cut the spoons using sharp scissors.

Step two: Attach the spoons with hot glue

Next, cut out an 18-inch MDF and 12-inch piece forms and attach them using glue. Preferably, hot glue would work best on plastic spoons. Also, attach the spoon handles that you just cut off.

With the spoon handles attached with hot glue flip it over and cover any gaps with cardboard.

Step three: Use MDF wreath holes as guide

Next, start attaching the spoons with the hot glue using the MDF wreath holes as a guide. You must, however, ensure there’s enough space on the outer ring so that the spoons will not overlap. For better results, use a sandpaper to smoothen the edges of the cut spoons.

Step four: Giving final touch with elegant colors

After all is said and done, your mirror is not going to look beautiful if you do not add some colors. After attaching your spoons and you’re satisfied with the arrangement of the spoons and every other thing, then proceed with adding some coats of primer. The primer will ensure the paint sticks to the spoon. If you’re done applying primer, then proceed to paint each spoon by hand with a soft brush.

Another way is to paint the spoons first before gluing them to the board. Looking at this, it would seem like the perfect and simplest way to go about this. However, painting them first, some of the spoons will get scratched and be a dent in your creation.

Nevertheless, getting the right color combination can be a chore. Especially if you’re looking to fade in different colors to create a signature shade. The back of the mirrors in the first row will be reflected in your mirror so go ahead and paint the back too.

Alternatively, you can spray paint the spoons to cover any cardboard that may peek through the spoons.

Step five: Attach the rounded mirror

Attach the mirror to the spoon wreath using the hot glue once the paint is fully dried. Do well to also add a jute twine or ribbon to the back of your mirror using your glue for hanging on the wall.
