Every career can start to feel stale, even if you are technically in your dream position. Just because you are in the position you have worked hard for does not mean that the environment or situation is ideal for you. If you want to continue what you do and use the skills you have developed through the years, then don’t worry, because there are so many ways to take your career in a fresh new direction without backtracking or having to start again.

1. Go Freelance

Freelancing is a great way to take your career in a fresh new direction, especially if you want to open your options and expand your network. When you work freelance, you usually work smaller jobs for more employers. Often, you end up earning a higher daily rate in exchange.

Freelancing does have a slow start. It takes time to get a freelance job and longer to build the network you need to start getting work from more places than you can handle in your schedule. Stick with it, however, and you’ll be able to be in full control over your schedule and earn a great wage.

2. Become a Temp Worker

Temp workers vary. While at the bottom of the working ladder, the work may be nothing more than filing, this is not the be-all-and-end-all of your options. Temporary workers or locums are essential in the medical sector(There are many New York jobs for physicians.),for example, and are hired to cover sick leave, maternity leave, bereavement leave, or just to help during busy periods. These roles are highly specialized as well. You can become a locum pharmacist and work in temporary gigs in pharmacies across your city or county. Working in these temporary positions comes with two big benefits. One, you can manage your own schedule and will usually have greater control over when and where you work. Two, you typically get paid a much higher day rate. What this means is you get paid more while maintaining the routine that suits your health and wellbeing.

3. Become a Consultant

Becoming a consultant is a great way to work for yourself. It is very similar to working as a freelancer or temp worker, but rather than work on a specific project or cover shifts, you will be hired to solve problems. These problems can be short-term or long-term and may require you to work directly with your client, or simply create an outline for them to follow.

4. Start a Business

Starting a business is always a great option. If you have a clear idea of what you want to do, have a great network, and even have the means to secure funding then you are ready to get started. Planning in advance and working out the logistics can make the transition from idea to launch smooth, so don’t skip that essential step.

5. Become a Thought Leader

Becoming a thought leader is another great way to take your career in a fresh new direction. You can become a mentor, speaker, or educator on your terms thanks to the power of the internet and the many opportunities out there from conferences to interviews.
