There’s a good reason why crooner Tony Bennett left his heart in San Francisco: it’s one of the most romantic cities in the world. A city full of hills and Victorian homes, surrounded by the San Francisco Bay with the Golden Gate Bridge in tow, and draped in mysterious fog? What’s not to love — especially when staying in the most romantic hotel suite in San Francisco?
And now, this romantic city is home to the Suite in Bloom, an enchanting, flower-filled, tree-bedecked hotel room designed by renowned Bay Area florist Edgar Martinez and found at the historic and charming Westin St. Francis, located in the heart of San Francisco’s Union Square.
The St. Francis, as the hotel is commonly known, was built in 1904 and is truly iconic. Its striking interior is a look back to old San Francisco’s glory days, when hotels featured grand staircases, wide hallways, and gilded elevators. The hotel has survived and thrived through two major earthquakes and two world wars, and has welcomed countless celebrities and dignitaries as its guests. It has a timeless elegance, yet is outfitted with modern amenities.
A Floral Wonderland

Upon opening the flower-covered door to the 625-square-foot Suite in Bloom, it’s natural to gasp in sheer wonder, as it’s unlike any other room. Silk flowers cover nearly every square inch of the walls and cascade from the ceiling. Four large, faux cherry blossom trees, each outfitted with delicately lit chandeliers hanging from their branches, are placed throughout the space.
Lanterns with flameless candles are scattered throughout the room. Only when you turn towards the desk area or peek into the closet are you reminded that you are standing inside a hotel room, not in a place that seems straight out of a fairy tale or resembles a Monet painting. Even one of the bathrooms, including the roomy shower, was covered in flowers.
Isn’t It Romantic?

The plush, king-size bed (outfitted with the Westin Heavenly Bed mattress, yes!) beckoned us, along with a separate parlor featuring a cozy seating area perfect for relaxing and sipping champagne. A sweet garden table for two sat by a window offering a view of San Francisco’s bustling Union Square far below; it reminded me that it was okay to shut out the rest of the world, if only for a few hours. With room service only a phone call away, we decided to skip dining out and instead stayed inside to relax and fully enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime treat.
Room to Flirt, or be Flirtatiously Fun

Feeling a bit like Cinderella, I half-expected Prince Charming to appear from around the corner, glass slipper in hand. Instead, I was just as delighted to see my sweet husband offering me a glass of wine, poured from the bottle of sparkling rosé we found waiting in our room, courtesy of the hotel. Moments like this, when we can escape work, kids, and the everyday chaos to truly reconnect and share romantic moments together, are rare and deeply appreciated.
The next morning, well-rested and completely relaxed, we indulged in the luxury of breakfast in bed: lavender lattes, egg white frittatas, and buttery almond croissants from Café Rito, the hotel’s charming in-house café.
Although it was just the two of us this time, the Suite in Bloom included an extra bedroom area with a queen bed and a bathroom, perfect for bringing guests. Honestly, I might have to come back for a full-on pajama party with my girlfriends—especially the ones who absolutely love flowers and lots of pink.

The Suite in Bloom at the Westin St Francis in San Francisco is available through July 31, 2025. Book here.
